BioShock

Recommended Posts

apologies if there is a thread for this already, searched but did not find one.

BioShock is a story-driven first person shooter set in the underwater city of Rapture. Plasmid technology allows you and other characters to infuse themselves with superpowers, aka splicing, so you fight with both weapons and supernatural abilities.

Each game is beautifully detailed with in-depth and rewarding environments to explore, and the BioShock series is currently my favorite game series. Wholly recommend to anyone who likes a good story in games.

IMO: 1 has a strong first half, but becomes much (much) less interesting after the twist (don't get me wrong, I love the twist, it's just everything after the reveal that I don't like). 2 had a weaker first half, but an enjoyable second half, even if the overall story is less compelling. I, uh, didn't like Infinite as much. It felt too divorced from the rest of the series and the fights were completely separate from the story, and felt kind of tacked on.

I really liked Burial at Sea episode 2, though. Haven't finished Minerva's Den yet, just purchased it today.

2 has a multiplayer mode, which is pretty much dead at the moment (for PC at least), but every couple of days there is a group that goes on and plays for awhile. It's a pretty good multiplayer, especially for an addition that was completely unnecessary for the game to feel complete.

At the time of posting, The Collection (includes the 3 main games + all DLC) is on sale for $15 through Steam (link!) and, I've heard, is on sale for other platforms as well. So now would be a good time to check it out if you have time.
