Personally I have been liking Order of the Stick.

http://www.giantitp.com/

It is a stick figure comic that is based loosely around D&D. It is still ongoing. It is very funny, but has some serious moments as well(like the current part of the story line). It is well known for poking at different tropes. It has been interesting watching the art evolve over time.

I'm not sure what I would rate it, probably PG13 for blood and violence.

For me, it'd be Paranatural in first place, though the padding might get slow sometimes. Never Satisfied comes in a close second.

Paranatural is about a kid named Max who undergoes the (sometimes horrifying) transformation from a regular kid to a Spectral, which is a half-human half-ghost person. Spectrals can take advantage of spirits and their powers provided that energy colors match for both spectral and spirit.

Never Satisfied follows a group of kids who use magic with the help of jewelry. The more jewels one carries of a specific type, the stronger and easier the magic. The group is competing to get a very powerful position, though the main character, Lucy, is the only one in the group who has no magic, though they hide it as well as possible.

And, of course, XKCD, which I think everyone by now knows about.

Wow, these are interesting reads. O: I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread!

Anyway I'm not sure if webtoons are almost the same with webcomics, but I have some that I'm always anticipating (if ever they were o; )

-Tower of God

-Siren's Lament

-Winter Woods

-The Jinx's Lover

-Rise from Ashes

-All That We Hope to Be (maybe its just me but this one gets a bit depressing sometimes xd.png)

XKCD is a rather popular and simple webcomic that focuses on math and science, but delves into relationships and psychology. There is no set plot, but each strip is usually clever and/or an insight into how weird humans are. For example:

There is a small cast of characters, but they more or less denote a specific mindset instead of being actual characters. There's Cueball, the most common character, and doesn't really have a personality, making him useful for every situation. Megan, a female version of Cueball. There's Black Hat and his female counterpart Danish, both extremely sadistic and manipulative. Beret Guy is supposed to be weird and surreal, defying logic in most of his strips but also is quite optimistic. There's also a White Hat, a misguided but well-intentioned person, sort of like the opposite of Black Hat.

XKCD takes a lot from the webcomic "Men In Hats", which is quite similar in premise.

*bursts into thread*
LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT GUNNERKRIGG COURT

It's a sort of... mystery/fantasy comic, about a girl named Antimony who moves into a mysterious boarding school (Gunnerkrigg Court) after her mother dies. Along the way she meets some pretty cool and not-so-cool people. And there's quite a bit of secrets being kept from all the students, and even the people who work there...

Just be warned that the comic is nearly 2,000 pages long and shows no signs of stopping any time soon, so don't expect to read it all in a day (unless you have a lot of time on your hands). It updates on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

I quite enjoyed XKCD and Order of the Stick too, but I'd be lying if I said I've read all of the latter, haha.

YO WEBTOONS

I have so many I follow...

A few of my current ongoing favorites:

No Way - pretty nsfw at times, hilarious, stupidity and queer shenanigans

Ghost Teller - bloody, kinda gorey, spooks, kinda horror, occasional sillyness

The Dummy's Dummy - pg, toys from the darkest depths of despair, amalgamation ghosts, talking puppet who's done with everything

Lackadaisy - 1920's prohibition and illegal alcohol trade but with cats
