|Dragon Cave Forum > News > 2016-12-18 - Holiday Event Schedule|
|Posted by: TJ09 Dec 18 2016, 03:08 AM|
| Holiday Dragon Breeding
Past holiday dragons will be breedable on the same schedule as past years; there will be a seven day period from December 19 at 00:00 to December 25 at 23:59 where past holiday dragons will breed their own offspring. Past limitations still apply: you will only be able to keep one egg from a given clutch, even if multiple eggs are produced.
New Holiday Dragon
A new holiday dragon will be available starting at 00:00 on 12/25. It will drop for exactly three days; after this time it will no longer be available from the cave.
Instead of starting on 12/19 as it did last year, this year's holiday event will begin on 12/25 at 00:00 (the same time as the new dragon), and will run for twelve days. New content will be made available periodically during the event.

|It's been so long since I hung out on here! I get so busy, but Christmas events are always fun so I checked back in. I'm ready to be in for the long haul here with hopefully some familiar faces from last year! <3|
|Posted by: harlequinraven Dec 18 2016, 04:31 AM|
|It'll be rather nice not to worry about the event and breeding at the same time. Though I am a bit worried I'll forget to keep doing the event, with the different timing. I might have to set myself an alarm.|

| Thank you for the information.
I'm probably in the minority, but I have to say that I am incredibly disappointed that the Christmas event will not start until Christmas Day
I was really looking forward to a nice, gentle hopefully low key, enjoyable build up to Christmas. Instead it is all going to start on the busiest for many day of the year, which will add yet more stress and we don't have the nice build up.
|Posted by: Natakiro Dec 18 2016, 04:44 AM|
| Ah, cool! My first Christmas event :3 I look forward to it.
And does the holiday breeding only pertain to Christmas ones, or does it also stretch to Halloween and Valentine's, etc? I have no clue how that works.
|Posted by: Vampyre Dec 18 2016, 04:46 AM|
| Yay holiday event!!
Can't wait to see the new dragons!

| Thanks for the notice! I am very excited
|Posted by: SockPuppet Strangler Dec 18 2016, 04:48 AM|
Holidays can only breed true on their specific holiday. So we will only be able to breed Christmas' tomorrow and for the next week; no Halloweens or VDays.
|Posted by: Ardath Rekha Dec 18 2016, 04:55 AM|
|Oooh, a "Twelve Days of Christmas" type event! I am excited. And as a grad student, this is a much better schedule for me, since it will start/end while I'm actually on break. Thank you, TJ!|
|Posted by: Ripan Dec 18 2016, 04:56 AM|
| Glad to see some information before it all starts. Thank you!
I'm inclined to agree with this, however. The build up before the 24-25th is more or less what I enjoy most of the holiday and the days after feels almost a bit... empty, done and over with. But I want to stay positive. There ought to be a reason why the event takes place after. It could be because of real life reasons like lack of time, or maybe it's an experiment to actually include more people after most of the holiday stress is over. Or it could be an event that thematically fits after the holidays and for the New Year. I'm curious and willing to see where this is going.

HO ! HO!! HO!!!
Happy Holidays to all ...
|Posted by: Bugzilla Dec 18 2016, 05:12 AM|
Well, you can breed them whenever you want. It's just that they will not give you holiday dragons.
|Posted by: helix9 Dec 18 2016, 05:19 AM|
|Stoked as always! Last year's event was pretty extravagant, so I hope the artists and programmers have taken a restful break.|

|Posted by: Sheriziya Dec 18 2016, 06:00 AM|
|I'm definitely looking forward to this! I like it that we can focus on the breeding before Christmas and the event as of Christmas. And with more content coming during the event.... Checking in every day for this event will be fun|

| Thank you, TJ, spriters, and event organizers!
I kind of wish the event was happening before Christmas, since I have the week off work, but I understand that the week after Christmas works better with a lot of peoples' schedules.
Looking forward to seeing the new holiday dragons and to the event!

If you mean the Holiday 2016 ones, those will flood the cave for three days. If you can find your way onto DC, you should be able to get them.
I hope the event is not too extravagant. I have family visiting through at least the 28th.

|Posted by: purplehaze Dec 18 2016, 08:05 AM|
| Thanks for letting us know about the timing of things, TJ. This gives us longer to anticipate the event. Sounds like a 12 days of Christmas sort of thing. I'm looking forward to seeing what all the talented artists and writers and planners have come up with this time.
By midnight tonight my scroll will be pretty much clear for breeding and collecting Christmas dragons. I am looking forward to moving some lineages forward and perhaps finding some eggs in the AP that inspire me to start others. I just wish we had the scroll space to work on more -- this is the time of year that I feel the limits most acutely, since we only have one week to breed everything.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

|New start events dates sounds nice, I can't wait to see it ;D|
|Posted by: Ravensilver Dec 18 2016, 08:20 AM|
| Thanks for the info! Looking forward to breeding all my lovelies... And maybe catching a few new ones in the process.
I, for one, don't mind the event starting with xmas, since this year I won't be able to really keep an eye on DC, what with being in a new job and working overtime during the holiday season.
I'll have time off after xmas, so I can enjoy the event then...
|Posted by: hydramorph Dec 18 2016, 08:23 AM|
| Thanks for the heads up TJ
I hope the event is not a difficult as the Halloween event. I never did figure it out.

|Posted by: VixenDra Dec 18 2016, 08:35 AM|
| I appreciate the update post!
(I was expecting for things to start today and I'd rather know there's no event before Christmas, since that's quite a change since I've joined DC)
PS Wiki says that last year the Event started on 18th
I'm worried about the event's timing though... I suspect it starts later so people don't have to worry about not completing the event due to busy holiday preparations... well, it's nice if it's the case
"12 days of Christmas" starting so late is worrying me because January is the busiest month at the univeristy in here... all theachers are starting to collect the final grades for the winter semester, often 2 in just January. E.g. I do have an important test in this 1st week of January(and I'd probably have more if I didn't have so few subjects this semester).
I know it doesn't matter(and especially for this year ofc), but I'd rather have either after-christmas event for 7 days or 12 days of christmas starting before christmas, ending on Jan 1st^^; Just so I don't need to worry about DC event AND university duties, icluding tests... you know, it's about my future that I'm worried... not a having prepared not enough dishes or having missed a spot in cleaning the house or having to excuse my family and.or guests for a while in the evening or in the morning or... also after New Year one can no longer feel the excitement of the holidays (because they're gone, nothing to expect, nothing going on) - in contrast to entire December, and even a bit of November, it's easier to forget there's some events in a game still:P
But I'll cope anyway (unless I forgetO_o), I'll be trying
|Posted by: Lagie Dec 18 2016, 08:43 AM|
| The 12 days of Christmas are in fact after the main event as they go from December 25th to January 6th (Epiphany)!
Thank you for the update, TJ!

| So we're getting a post-12 days of Xmas event? Last year was probably my favorite event so I can't wait to see what this one will be like.
On the bright side, I'll be on holiday for most of the event. On the not-so-bright side, the period between X-mas and New Years is pretty busy for most. Guess we'll have to wait and see how this turn out.
Also, thanks for giving us a heads-up on what to expect.
|Posted by: SockPuppet Strangler Dec 18 2016, 12:41 PM|
Hence why I said "breed true", meaning that only Christmas' will give Christmas'. ;3
|Posted by: purpledragonclaw Dec 18 2016, 12:49 PM|
|Ah, it's the most wonderful time of the year! And I locked myself with very nice AP finds yesterday. I can't wait to dive into the AP for Holiday dragons tomorrow, not to mention obtaining the new Christmas dragon this year!|

| Yaaaayyyyyy!! Thanks for the info TJ!
Happy Holidays to all!!
I can't decide if I like or dislike the fact that the event won't start until Christmas. It makes things better for me, I guess, because my neighbor was going to miss seeing the event. Now that it's on a different schedule he will be able to see it. But I am impatient and want the event now! lol
I was stupidly mass-breeding my dragons to the AP yesterday, so I just hope the eggs don't get stuck behind the holiday wall tomorrow. Given the timing of the AP I don't think it will be a problem. However, I have a few bred eggs that I'm going to have to drop for tomorrow. Shoot.
|Posted by: nooey Dec 18 2016, 02:08 PM|
|So excited, thanks TJ and all your helpers. 12 days of Christmas sounds ace.|
|Posted by: Lantean_Pegasus Dec 18 2016, 03:27 PM|
| The "Twelve Days of Christmas" aren't a thing where I live, but I'm looking forward to celebrating them on Valkemare !! It's a nice idea to take that tradition up for this year's DC Christmas. I wonder what might happen on Twelfth Night.
Although I'm fine with the new schedule, I'll miss the pre-Christmas event. DC's Christmas time has become one of the things I enjoyed as something putting me in the Christmas mood when the holidays drew near.
And now I'll wait for the Christmas breeding frenzy to beging ! Let's spread the cheer !
|Posted by: MonicaOP Dec 18 2016, 03:33 PM|

|Posted by: Skilla Dec 18 2016, 03:49 PM|
|Nice! It'll be my first event on Dragon Cave, since when I joined by Halloween, I had no idea what to do with my Dark Lumina so I didn't snatch some eggs. Can't wait to snatch some Winter seasonals soon, too.|

|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 18 2016, 04:51 PM|
|Oh, wow! Is it a Twelve Days of Christmas thing or will it have some Hannukah elements, too, being that it overlaps a bit? (Hannukah starts the 24th this year IIRC?) Either way, I'm really looking forward to the new content this year, and extremely excited to begin breeding and AP hunting!|
|Posted by: Ashes The Second Dec 18 2016, 04:52 PM|
|Still no raffle?|
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 18 2016, 04:59 PM|
I wouldn't hold my breath, TBH... it demise wasn't announced, and until something is said, I doubt anything will change.
|Posted by: missy20201 Dec 18 2016, 05:04 PM|
| Eh, I can see why some people are upset at the schedule. I have break from school from Tuesday up to Jan 3 (9th for college classes since I'm doubling on HS and college), and we'll have family in town from the day after Christmas for about a week.
I guess I'll be participating in the early hours of the morning before I go to bed

|Posted by: cosmos393 Dec 18 2016, 06:18 PM|
|does this mean that the previous holiday dragons will be able to breed twice? 1st breeding on the 19th, and then 2nd one on the 26th (since the event starts on the 25th and lasts 12 days)?|
|Posted by: coo_ Dec 18 2016, 06:24 PM|
|So exciting! Thanks for the update TJ|
|Posted by: DragonNeko Dec 18 2016, 06:29 PM|
| Only one week to breed? :< I feel like the whole month should be for breeding. Same with Halloween. But that's just me. Especially since there's now no breed limits and there's more Holiday dragons to breed. And since it takes 3-4 days to hatch anything, you don't get to snatch much of what you want.
If not the whole month, then like two weeks...

No, breeding is only a week. 19th -25th.
Also, ALL holiday eggs (for all three holiday events) are born with a last bred date of the day after the breeding week so no to two generations also.
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 18 2016, 08:45 PM|

Lets have a new egg everyday, bwhahahahahahahaha OHOHOH snow forts? Can we build or decorate something? No more mine sweeper pleeeeeeeeeeease with sugar on top. I would adore another snowfort or gingerbread house. I love collecting the bits and building. Not really a fan of the wandering story adventures.
I AM SO EXCITED!

|Good to know.|
|Posted by: Jazeki Dec 18 2016, 09:47 PM|
All past dragons can only breed once. When they grow up, they'll have a bred date of the 26th, I believe.
|Posted by: kiyoura Dec 18 2016, 09:58 PM|
I think 1 week is perfect since the breeding cooldown is 1 week. Besides, it works both ways - some people want to get over the holiday nonsense and go back to what they were doing (lineage projects, etc.)
|Posted by: azila Dec 18 2016, 10:26 PM|
|Can't wait for the new event and the new dragon! Gonna collect as many holiday eggs as I possibly can, per the usual|
|Posted by: Starscream Dec 18 2016, 10:36 PM|
Probably not. Don't quote me, but likely because too many people found raffles problematic.
12 days of Christmas - sounds like fun. I want a pigeon in a pear tree.
|Posted by: andromedae Dec 18 2016, 10:37 PM|
|Beyond the raffle, I think any sort of introduction for more CB prizes would be nice. Even if nothing of the sort occurs, I'll continue to enjoy what the holidays have to offer.|
|Posted by: saltywench Dec 18 2016, 10:41 PM|

|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 18 2016, 11:19 PM|
It's always been one week to prevent there from being more than one generation of new holiday dragons bred per year. I know, it sounds nice at first, but think about the actual consequences of being able to breed each holiday dragon FOUR times. Lots would end up just dying in the AP. If this happened, too, we'd almost certainly lose holiday multiclutching to make up for it, which would change the whole dynamic A LOT and there'd be FAR less nice stuff in the AP because people would have to make a point of choosing to abandon. Whereas right now, if people breed a pair, extra copies will probably end up in the AP. So it wouldn't be nearly as fun as you think.

Yulebucks seem pretty easy. I think I've caught all yulebucks I clicked on so far, lol (threw them all back, though).

|Posted by: Marie19R Dec 19 2016, 12:48 AM|
Oh, thanks for the reminder! I'll wait to breed those, then, I need the blue wings.
It seems that Hollys and Aegis are going really fast. The others I've managed to grab fairly easily. The last two years I've worked hard on my Holly collection, and neglected some of the other breeds. This year I really need more Wrapping Wings and Winter Magis.
|Posted by: DragonNeko Dec 19 2016, 12:52 AM|
Rosy wings? Has that always happened?
|Posted by: Eos Dec 19 2016, 12:54 AM|

|Posted by: DragonLady86 Dec 19 2016, 01:16 AM|
rosy wings like the CBs, and yes. during daytime hours in the cave, the bred ones have blue wings. something that was discovered a year after their release. much to the displeasure of many as it changed a number of planned lineages.
|Posted by: Marie19R Dec 19 2016, 01:49 AM|
|Okay, I'm locked. Got one Holly, two Yulebucks, two Ribbon Dancers (that is what they're called, right?), one Winter Magi, and one Wrapping Wing. And I'm already antsy for them to hatch, lol. This'll be a long two days.|

During the mad period I actually managed to catch a third gen holly with alt tri color snow as one of the grandparents in AP，sooooooo lucky by far
|Posted by: Zephyrgirl Dec 19 2016, 03:25 AM|
|Ugh! Egg-locked and the AP is already full of shiny holiday eggs. I have to say, I was disappointed at first to hear the event wouldn't start till Christmas, but I'm getting used to the idea. Sometimes the days after the 25th can be so dreary and kind of a let-down since all of the celebration and events end, so it will be nice to have something to keep the excitement up. Plus, technically Christmas doesn't end till the 6th of January.|

| AP in the holiday backlog already almost like with Halloweens...
I remember my first holiday AP hunts (2 first years or sth) and there were hardly any holiday eggs there to catch!
I hope to get PMs back from those who catch my breedings in a few hours^^ *crosses fingers that all of them have a look at the lineages and notice parents' names* (I can't try myself, by the time they hit AP I'll be having classes. meh)

|Posted by: Ripan Dec 19 2016, 10:30 AM|
| Glad to see that Hollies have increased in number; only a few years ago I saw only a mere four of them total during the entire breeding season. Now this year the Holly pairings I have bred so far all produced clutches of four eggs each!
Aegis are going like hotcakes though, and I've seen some real beauties out there <3

|not sure where is the right forum to ask this question so I'll just ask here and hopefully someone will be able to answer me..
1. does the holiday eggs have higher priority over the normal eggs in AP? what will happen to those poor normal eggs then?
2. is it always true that the eggs with less time will appear first in AP? is there any chance that an egg with 6d19hours is hidden behind the walls and walls of 6d22hrs? (since I often see some 6d20hrs in between 6d22)
3.if we toss an egg we picked up back into AP, will it appear on screen for the users? (Curious because of the number of eggs I've abandoned back into the cave due to messy lineage)
|Posted by: SullenCat Dec 19 2016, 04:36 PM|
1. Yes, holiday eggs have priority. The normal eggs are behind the wall of holidays so... yes they can die behind it.
2. Normal eggs, even with less time, will show up only when there is no holiday wall.
3. If you picked up a holiday egg and abandon it, it will show in the AP. If you picked up a normal egg, it will show only when there is no holiday wall.
Hope this helps. Hope I didn't forget how the holidays-mechanism works.
|Posted by: cosmos393 Dec 19 2016, 05:00 PM|
Thank you, point 1 and 3 are cleared :p
i'm tracking a holiday egg that has shorter time left than the current AP egg time, and since it has no view at all, I'm HOPING that I can still have a chance to grab it, but sounds like someone has picked it up already
|Posted by: SullenCat Dec 19 2016, 05:03 PM|
You're right. If that holiday egg has less time than the eggs in the AP, someone picked it up. Many people do not put a recently caught egg in hatcheries, as a precaution they wait until the egg is close to 4d. That would explain the lack of views.
|Posted by: blockEdragon Dec 19 2016, 05:11 PM|

No, they ALL hatch "Pacified." You can only Enrage them via the Adult Aegis' BSA.

Enraged aegis to match the bronze shade.
|Posted by: MessengerDragon Dec 19 2016, 09:20 PM|

|Thank you TJ for such a great Christmas schedule.|
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 20 2016, 03:09 AM|
| I am having SUCH bad luck with the Aegises! Barely seeing them, much less able to snag any, and most of the few I have caught were too messy to keep. Of course, it's partly because I don't have the discipline not to snatch at every Solstice, Mistletoe, and Holly I see... and I've been sifting through the Yulebucks for a Yulebuck from goldwing Snow Angel and the Ribbon Dancers for a G4 evengen that's altkin or otherwise nice to use as a mate for my G4 evengen altvine... and I keep finding pretties that way so I just HAVE to keep them...
Blah! Oh, for more egg slots...
|Posted by: Nine Dec 20 2016, 03:57 AM|
|I'm thinking the wall of Snow Angels, Yulebucks, and even Ribbon Dancers is going to block most other breeds until they're incu-hatchable and people start mass freezing hatchlings. Just like Halloween... it's a bit concerning.|
|Posted by: Jazeki Dec 20 2016, 06:32 AM|
|I'd pick up more dragons, but I'm locked for the next 19 hours. More slots for more Xmas dragons would be lovely.|

Waiting for my incubated eggies to hatch tonight so I can grab more!
|Posted by: Marie19R Dec 20 2016, 10:41 AM|
| I'm locked for another 14 hours, which means I have to stay up late tonight if I want to grab more as soon as I become unlocked, but I have work in the morning... Dang. I'll stay up anyways, but it will mean being crabby at work.
I'm just hoping I'll be able to grab a few Aegises in my next batch. Didn't get any in my first batch. I still have my own to breed, though, so at least I'll get two?

|Posted by: andromedae Dec 20 2016, 12:01 PM|
|The hourly drop just produced eggs in every biome. I really want to catch more low-gen Hollies...I have the duty to catch a 2G of every other holiday dragon as well and totally not enough egg slots. Oh, and that snow angel wall seems pretty awful. I hope it goes away sooner than later.|
|Posted by: Marie19R Dec 20 2016, 12:46 PM|
|Just bred some of my old Holidays and sent 20 eggs to the AP. I messed up and bred some of them a few days ago, so I have to wait a couple more days before I can breed them again.|
|Posted by: Amberfly Dec 20 2016, 01:28 PM|
|Gotta say the snow angel wall is getting to me. I need mistletoe and aegis lines most and they're just not there. Aegis, ok, those are new and people don't have so many to breed. But I expected more mistletoes this year.|
|Posted by: fuzzbucket Dec 20 2016, 01:39 PM|
|I haven't bred any of mine that weren't for ME or for IOUs yet....|
|Posted by: purplehaze Dec 20 2016, 02:06 PM|
| I've been looking for Mistletoe, Aegis, and Solstice and finding them all pretty scarce. But I'm egg locked now with other stuff, most of it what I bred for myself or traded for, so the hunt will have to wait.
I'm really not sure why the Snow Angels seem most plentiful.
|Posted by: Tigerkralle Dec 20 2016, 02:18 PM|
| Late to the party this year. I already bred myself what i want to be my peronal tradition for Dragon Cave for Holiday breeding season.
I bred IOUs and now off to the hunt!
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 20 2016, 04:51 PM|
| Honestly to me the ratios of breeds are exactly what I expected. Mistletoe is only two years old, after all - there aren't THAT many yet. I've seen as many of everything as I expected. If you just sit and refresh the AP without trying to grab you'll see examples of all of them, including Aegis, go by fairly frequently all things considered. It's just that all but the messy ones go SO fast.
The Snow Angel wall is probably going to stay pretty consistent, though - IMO because people are often pickier about Snow Angels than the other breeds, trying to match to their scroll type.
|Posted by: StormBirdRising Dec 20 2016, 04:54 PM|

|Posted by: purplehaze Dec 20 2016, 07:44 PM|
And people don't forget to influence your Mistletoes! I almost did.
|Posted by: alyelle Dec 20 2016, 09:12 PM|
The ratios have been pretty much what I expected too - although I've probably seen a few less wrapping wings than I would have thought. But that could just be me. Mostly I'm loving that hollies are coming and going with reasonable frequency - this is my first year with a lightning fast connection and it's so satisfying to catch them and gift them to newbies the way people did for me way back when
|Posted by: JaneMcAsh Dec 20 2016, 11:12 PM|
Thanks!!!! Almost forgot, too .
|Posted by: DragonNeko Dec 21 2016, 01:00 AM|
I'm a sucker for the Snow Angels and Winter Magi dragons. I love seeing the lineages people have come up with. I wish the breeding time lasted longer. Like a week and a half. Or that during the holidays the number of eggs you can have on your scroll increases. So like instead of gold trophy holders' 7 egg limit, it'll go up to like 9 or 10.
|Posted by: silver_chan Dec 21 2016, 01:13 AM|
|I'm shocked that I managed to catch two Holly eggs. One of them is incredibly messy (I kept it because I need to freeze some babies this holiday season) but the other one is shockingly pretty. A fifth gen spiral with Horse dragons! Not a combo I ever would have thought of, but I really like it.|

Loving these dragons btw!!
|Posted by: SockPuppet Strangler Dec 21 2016, 04:07 AM|
It's a few hours (four) past breeding began two days ago. Are you sure you grabbed yours when the event started (remember, DC time is Eastern time)? It doesn't look like it to me. o.o I didn't grab mine right away (took me an hour or two after breeding started) and mine have still had time to hatch - even having to ER them for a short bit.
|Posted by: Natakiro Dec 21 2016, 04:07 AM|
|Wait, is it possible to influence the Christmas dragons, or are they all one gender? Mine won't let me. :?|
|Posted by: SockPuppet Strangler Dec 21 2016, 04:11 AM|
Only hollies and (bred) mistletoes can be either gender.
|Posted by: Natakiro Dec 21 2016, 04:22 AM|
Oh, okay, thank you for the info! ^^ Nice that I don't have to worry about influencing the ones I have.
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 21 2016, 04:26 AM|
As Sock says, most Christmas dragons are only one sex. Yulebucks, Winter Magi, Wrappingwings, and Aegis are exclusively male. Snow Angels, Ribbon Dancers, Solstices, and CB Mistletoes are exclusively female. CB Hollies were originally exclusively male, but due to the old (no longer existing) raffle sometimes having HMs, a handful of female CB Hollies exist. In general, though, CB Hollies are male.
Based on the pattern of past releases, this year's new CB Christmas dragon will also be male, since the Aegis are male, and the two releases before Aegis were both female (as CBs, at least). Christmas dragons alternate every two years, so two males, then two females, et cetera. It's possible that TJ will choose to break the pattern this year, but it seems very, very unlikely after so many years of consistently following it.
Bred Hollies and Mistletoes can be influenced, and should be, to avoid misgendering woes - especially tragic with Hollies! But otherwise, your pinks can take a break during the event.
BTW, the same is true of Valentine's dragons, except they switch off every year. Original Valentines, Arsani, Rosebuds, and Heartstealings are female. Mutamores, Radiant Angels, Heartseekers, and Sweetlings are male. Since the Mutamores are male, the next Valentine's CB will almost certainly be female.
EDIT: Unsure why Halloween dragons don't follow this pattern - maybe due to the general 'grab everything you possibly can' theme of Halloween? But all Halloweens come in both sexes like normal.

| Yeah, this is the first I'm trying to hunt for holidays that have been bred with normals. It's not easy for the Aegis as well. I'm glad I bred mine with normal ones
I do have one exception for the Wrapping Wing. I had one combined with an Arsani. This is one couple I'll keep. All others are (going to be) combined with normal ones so that anyone can continue with the lineage.

| Anyone else experiencing extreme lag and Bad Gateway errors? I went to try to influence my eggs (d'oh!) and can't get in :'(
Edit: finally got in and was able to influence, but I'm still getting lag.
|Posted by: VixenDra Dec 21 2016, 07:12 AM|
And I bless Halloweens for that!
btw I'd prefer MFMFMF alternation for christmas breeds if they are to never start being released of both sexes...
The game is lagging to me too...

|The lag is so horrid this morning. I keep getting bad gateway errors!|

|Are the Seasonal Winter eggs dropping now?|
|Posted by: Lesh4537 Dec 21 2016, 08:03 AM|
|Correct me if I'm wrong - I thought refusals didn't matter during their holiday season. I have two pairs of holiday dragons that refused in the past that I thought would be breedable again during the event. o.O|
|Posted by: purplehaze Dec 21 2016, 08:56 AM|
Are both dragons in the pairs holidays? Have you checked trying to breed from both dragons in the pair? Sometimes one is blocked but the other is not.
Yes, they are. I believe the Winter seasonals can be found in both Forest and Alpine. I know it was confirmed by someone this morning that they are dropping in Alpine.
|Posted by: Lesh4537 Dec 21 2016, 09:09 AM|
Odd. Both pairs are Holiday x Gold. From the Holiday's breeding page the mate is rejected and unavailable. But from the mate's page the holiday is available.
Well, as long as it works! Thank you, purplehaze!
|Posted by: purplehaze Dec 21 2016, 11:12 AM|

|Dropped a Winter Magi I had caught last night, and managed to snag a Holly in it's place. I'm locked again, until tomorrow morning (before work, thankfully), and I just have to remember that my next batch I need to leave two slots open for the new dragon. This is so much fun! I'm not interested in lineages so I've been throwing back any cool looking ones that I think people might like to continue.|

| Having SUCH good luck with trading this year! Thank you SO MUCH to Master0fPuppets for the amazing Holly x Gold checker G3 and to Raindear for all the lovely G2s! And that G4 stair Holly from Frill from the AP, OMG. *drool*
Also pulling together a deadline project I started with some of my non-forum-using friends last year. Next year, we will be breeding into the AP a bunch of deadlined "G2" Hollies! Not real G2s, but will look identical except for the row of gravestones at the top. (Will be making deadlined mates for them so they match.) I've noticed a handful of similar projects, but none with both deadlined Hollies and matching deadlined mates, and almost none pulled back far enough to look "G1" so as to make "G2" babies. This is how we decided to improve the odds of finding nice-looking Hollies for people who like checkers and evengens. They're just deadlines, but they'll have some of the look of a 'real' G2 or G3 checker and that's pretty good! So, really excited to be making progress on the project.
We're waiting until next Halloween to kill the parents of the Hollies, though, in order to have the best chance to zombify as many as possible. >D
|Posted by: missy20201 Dec 21 2016, 08:36 PM|
|Aha, since I'm not huge on lineages (my only goal is to get two of each type, one of each gender if possible) I'm just kicking back and waiting for the event to start. I'm so excited to see the new dragon though! And I'm glad that everyone seems to be having a good time breeding|
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 21 2016, 09:11 PM|
|Since when do S2 Solstices have rosy wings? Is this so people can swap them before they grow up if the wing color is wrong? Either way, awesome!|
|Posted by: missy20201 Dec 21 2016, 09:20 PM|
It's actually based on when you breed it! It goes off EST, like everything basically on DC. 18:00 to 5:59 is rosy, 6:00 to 17:59 is blue
|Posted by: veci037 Dec 21 2016, 09:24 PM|
| Thanks for the notice!
I am look forward to it~ and hope I won't missing alt black dragon again~
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 21 2016, 09:46 PM|
Well, yeah, I knew that part. But that's the adults. Last year, as I recall, you didn't get color on the S2 - you could only be 100% sure you had a colorwing or bluewing when it grew up or if you'd bred it yourself.
|Posted by: SockPuppet Strangler Dec 21 2016, 09:53 PM|
The first report I've seen on it was from earlier today, so I'm guessing they were added really recently.

|I hope this year's holiday dragon has a new spriter. We need more spriters in-cave and having one bring in a holiday dragon would be pretty cool.|
|Posted by: andromedae Dec 21 2016, 11:54 PM|
Agreed! Our current spriters create lovely dragons every time, but it's always amazing to see new blood amongst the artists.
|Posted by: missy20201 Dec 22 2016, 12:15 AM|
|I'd like to see a new spriter do it too! Always cool to see new peoples' takes on holiday dragons|
|Posted by: blockEdragon Dec 22 2016, 01:08 AM|
| I just hope the new christmas dragon unique and visually pleasing.
New spriters are interesting but if the sprite doesn't look as good as an in caver's work it doesn't matter to me that they are new.
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 22 2016, 01:28 AM|
| Part of me wants something bright and RED! But then another part wants something sort of green-based but with lots of colorful bits, like a Christmas tree or a string of lights or a wreath. I dunno. I'll be happy no matter what it is, more than likely. I don't know why but I really love holiday dragons, in general. Halloween is my favorite, then Christmas, then Valentine's.
Actually, you know what I'd really like, is if the dragon was themed after Hannukah or Kwanzaa or some other winter holiday. Then the switch from calling them Christmas dragons to 'holiday' dragons wouldn't bug me anymore.
|Posted by: saltywench Dec 22 2016, 03:38 AM|
| I'm having so much fun just looking through the cave at all the interesting lineages. I've found some lovely 2nd gen pairings I can play with. Some of them are just wow though, lol Same christmas dad 6 times in a row, O_O
There really are a lot of players that don't do any sort of lineages at all, tons of messy 11 gens with a hundred different dragons. I thought more people worked on breeding, which is why I started doing it. Of course, I didn't for years and am filled to the brim with >_< What was I thinking pairings. I feel guilty about breeding them now for the cave. I don't want them all to end up wild, hahaha
I also found one of my original pairings used for someone else's dragon orgy lineage that made me laugh. Never seen one of my own offspring's family before, it was cool. But what made me laugh was that this person had caught a DIFFERENT one of my dragons too, and it was in the messy lineage as well. How weird was that? I bet the odds were crazy magnificent against. I added to it and let them all go so now it's out there with three different dragons from me in it, bwahahaha I'd love to find it again next year.

Breeding neat lineages IS very popular, but to be honest, it's an activity that is largely confined to people on the forums in my experience. The people who just play the game tend not to pick up the emphasis on lineage that exists here on the forum and so are much more likely to either not care at all about lineage, focusing instead on collecting the actual sprites, or else to develop a personal/idiosyncratic style of valuing lineages. For example, I used to know someone who actually strongly prefers what most would consider a "messy" lineage, because to her, they were more realistic and interesting, and more resemble an actual family tree with all its interconnections and oddnesses. (At least, that was her opinion. IMO a non-checker evengen is closer to a real family tree. But that's another topic. )
Before I began using the forum, I didn't give a damn about lineage. I barely even paid attention to it, to the point that my very first red dragon ever was a G2 from Yulebuck (when Yulebucks had been just barely released about three or four months before) and I didn't even notice until later on when I began using the forums more actively and picked up on the concept of organized lineages. I built up a value system based on dragon species rather than lineages. I would have traded a G2 Thuwed Nebula for a messy Gold at the time, having no idea how foolish that was. And of my non-forum-using DC-playing friends, only two really care much about lineage, and that largely because I got them into the game in the first place by showing off my own shinies.
And even for those of us who care about lineage, when it comes to holiday time, the temptation to BREED EVERYTHING is very strong for some of us. If it's on the scroll it tends to be bred. And that introduces the problem of Not Having A Mate. Some people make "bad" decisions, from a lineage neatness standpoint, when in that situation. For example, that's part of where all those G4s with one checker parent and one CB parent come from. The person didn't have an appropriate mate for the checker and thought of CBs as the "most valuable/best" possible alternative, rather than choosing a different checker to make an evengen. I used to do that sort of thing, too, before I had a clearer idea of lineage values and standards. I wince to this day at some of the stuff in my older dragons' offspring lists.

| I just found out about an update from the Wiki, THANK YOU ODEEN - in the name of everyone who wished for that tweak:)
(hehe, I'll have to be very careful when breeding for S2 frozens of these next year;) I'm actually happy the S2 from both variants will somehow differ:) Now if only Aegises got Enrage BSA for frozens I'd be euphoric )

Maybe I'm way out of the loop, but is it still the case that we can only have 2 of each Holiday breed?
What about when catching new releases?
|Posted by: nxtashaxt Dec 22 2016, 02:02 PM|
2 of the new and as many as you want of the old
|Posted by: purplehaze Dec 22 2016, 02:03 PM|
It is only possible to have two CB dragons of each holiday breed (Christmas and Valentine). But it has been allowed for a number of years now to have as many bred holiday dragons as your scroll can hold. I forget exactly when the change was made from only allowing two total.

| I caught an Aegis from the AP. *whew!* I was starting to think I'd never get one from the AP. My only other two are traded and bred.
I'm at 21/21 right now, but some hatchlings should be growing up in about 25 hours. I love this!
Very curious what the new dragon will look like, and what kind of event we will have.

I'm only going to have room on the 26th! OTL At least I can still grab the '16 egg. However, I won't be able to hunt for the '13 and '15 eggs. NOOOOOO

With the way holiday eggs have been clogging the AP, you will probably be able to hunt for the Christmas dragons you're missing. They've lasted for days after the holiday.
|Posted by: Amberfly Dec 23 2016, 10:45 AM|
|And some of us haven't done all our breeding yet. So far I've only bred things my trade partners have asked for, or whose eggs I wanted to keep. I have dozens that haven't been bred yet, and I don't think I'm the only one.|
|Posted by: Nikki_Of_The_Night Dec 23 2016, 10:57 AM|
| I also have a lot of dragons to breed.
So far I have only breed the pairings I personally wanted plus a couple for trades.
|Posted by: VixenDra Dec 23 2016, 11:10 AM|
| I'm devastated, I got 2 Solstice miscolours:( 1 was a 2g from a permanently enraged Aegis (and nicely named parents) I need for breeding... This really hurts with things that can be bred only once a freakin' year:( If I don't get a colourswap with the same kind of Solstice - just blue-winged instead - my plan will take up to even 5(!) years(!)... :'(
It's so easy to get lost in breeding times, espeically in different time-zones...
|Posted by: Terrafreaky Dec 23 2016, 11:19 AM|
Same here. Thus far I have been focusing on trades and will breed any remaining keepers right at the end of breeding, as well as breeding all my untraded lineages to the AP before Christmas breeding ends.
I also realized that one of the reasons I breed regular dragons to the AP so often is because when I don't, my breeding list gets very long and annoying to scroll through.
|Posted by: andromedae Dec 23 2016, 11:49 AM|
|Staying up late today to see what color wings my Snow Angels will have. Am also a bit stressed by the Solstice wing situation! I wish there was only one wing color.|
|Posted by: Siliskor Dec 23 2016, 11:55 AM|
|Every few days I've bred some of my holidays straight to the AP; matter of fact, I just sent close to 2 dozen more off. I haven't even touched my CBs yet. And since I haven't focused nearly as much on making any more holiday lineages (I wince every time I see my lines end up as trade fodder rather than stay with their finder) I've had more time to add what I can catch to the hoard. (I'm lookin' at you, tiny Aegis gang!)|
|Posted by: Marie19R Dec 23 2016, 12:33 PM|
| I too have lots more holiday breeding to do. I have a few that won't come off cooldown until tomorrow (stupidly bred them right before holiday breeding started). I've bred most of my CBs, but I have a few nicely-lineaged that I haven't bred. Just bred two of my Solstices, though, 'cause I needed a blue-winged egg.
I wasn't going to focus on Hollies this year, because I have enough and there are other breeds I only had 2-4 of. .... I currently have four growing Hollies. I can't help it, I love them!
|Posted by: VixenDra Dec 23 2016, 12:55 PM|
| So it's the blue-winded window for the nest 11h right now or not? the blue are the day results and the pink are the night results, right? (I mean the DC time)
|Posted by: kiyoura Dec 23 2016, 01:50 PM|
Yes!! But this means I have to catch another Solstice hatchie for freezing. .___.
|Posted by: fuzzbucket Dec 23 2016, 02:21 PM|
On my scroll, I keep a frozen Nocturne hatchie at the top. That way I can see when it's night/day. But for anyone using the default skin (which I can't) - look at the CLOCK ! It will ALWAYS tell you what window you are in.
Sorry, I have no enraged Aegis and I've bred both my solstices. (Actually I may have bred both my Aegises, come to think.) I haven't by any means bred everything though...
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 23 2016, 04:34 PM|
|Yeah. Unless I'm doing a lot of personal breeding projects that year and trying to stagger the eggs/hatchies to allow myself room to AP hunt and trade as well, I don't even breed until Christmas Eve/Day, except for a few things into the AP when the season opens out of sheer excitement. So come Christmas Day there will be HUGE floods of people breeding, both just for their own purposes and specifically to breed into the AP. The vast majority of my Christmas dragons will be bred directly to the AP, for instance, and I know most of my other friends who play are planning the same.|
|Posted by: andromedae Dec 23 2016, 05:20 PM|
|I have a question. Is there such a thing as blue-winged CB Solstice dragons?|
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 23 2016, 05:21 PM|
|not that i know of|
|Posted by: silver_chan Dec 23 2016, 05:28 PM|
No, the blue wings were a surprise the next year... and every Solstice had blue wings. It was only after people protested that we got the sunrise wings back.
|Posted by: harlequinraven Dec 23 2016, 06:47 PM|
|I can't keep these times straight. Is it currently rosy wing breeding?|
|Posted by: 11th Dec 23 2016, 07:06 PM|
Yep. 6:00 PM to 5:59 AM is rosy, and 6:00 AM to 5:59 PM is blue.
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 23 2016, 07:29 PM|
| Well, the Snow Angels have receded, but it's Ribbon Dancers now.
Is it just me or are Wrappingwings unusually uncommon this year? At first I thought I just was happening not to see them so much but at this point it's become really noticeable.
|Posted by: SullenCat Dec 23 2016, 07:52 PM|
I was just thinking the same. The breeding seems to be almost planned in waves but I did not see any topic about that massbreeding so I'm assuming that is just a coincidence.
Actually, I saw a bunch of Wrapping-Wings in the AP, not sure when, but I think during the cave night-time. Afterwards, very few, even if there are quite more of them than Solstices, Mistletoes or Aegis. No idea if there is any correlation with the fact that the WW were released on 2012 and the limits on catching previous years holidays were lifted on 2013.
|Posted by: Cassie_Fenix Dec 23 2016, 08:59 PM|
| Whoo! I managed this year to catch two clean-lineaged Hollies, one of the Dorkface variety (it'll make my third Dorkface Holly), and the other being a Thuwed! Plus, two slots for the new eggs! So happy here!
Also, what's all this talk about Rosy Winged Solstices? That's something new that I've heard.
|Posted by: MessengerDragon Dec 23 2016, 09:15 PM|
CB solstices all had rosy wings. Then, next year all bred solstices had blue wings. People protested and so both versions were made available - solstices bred during the day got blue wings, solstices bred at night got red wings.
The S2 hatchlings all had blue-winged sprites last year. This year, it has been changed so that solstices which will have rosy wings in adulthood show a rosy-winged hatchie sprite as well.
That's all I know, there may be some other development I missed, but I don't think so.

I'm sorry, but at this point, I'm not sure anyone is going to be able to get the Two-Headed Holly Dragon until I get mine first. Because unlike Jon Snow, I know things.

|This is my first Christmas on dragcave but is it usually this hard to get Aegis dragons in the AP? It's almost all ribbon dancers, Yulebucks, wrapping wings and almost no Mistletoes, Solstice and Holly and I haven't seen a single aegis|
|Posted by: Jazeki Dec 24 2016, 12:18 AM|
Aegis dragons were only released last year, so there are a lot less available compared to other Christmas breeds.
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 24 2016, 12:22 AM|
Since this is literally the first year they can even be found in the AP, no. Basically, the ones that are harder to find are either Hollies, which came out first and have few CBs left owned by active players, or else the ones released in the last three years (Solstice, Mistletoe, and Aegis). This is always true.
|Posted by: Sheriziya Dec 24 2016, 01:55 AM|
If I'm correct, the Aegis keeps its enraged form until you use the pacify action on it, which only becomes available after you've used the enrage action on the dragon. I haven't used enraged yet, but that's how I interpret the information on the http://dragcave.wikia.com/wiki/Breed_Specific_Actions#Enrage.2FPacify
|Posted by: fuzzbucket Dec 24 2016, 04:29 AM|
|I do wonder if that applies in the wild though, as the natural form is blue. If I see one with a dud lineage, I'll pick up, and abandon it later to see.|

That is an awesome idea and I'm stealing it.

Browns and purples? Why, just out of curiosity? Doesn't seem very winter-holiday-ish.
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 24 2016, 10:37 AM|
|browns and purples would look nice with mistletoes and ribbon dancers though imo|
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 24 2016, 10:54 AM|
|Well, sure, but it's got to represent the holiday on its own, too - I doubt we'll ever get a design that can't be identified at a glance, on its own, as a clear representative of its holiday. (With that said, would like to see a normal release in those colors for that reason!)|
|Posted by: Ripan Dec 24 2016, 11:07 AM|
| Well, I'm officially done breeding all I was going to breed, and this year I keep count how many offspring were produced:
17 Winter Magi
10 Snow Angels
6 Ribbon Dancers
All in all, I've had fun.
Eagerly awaiting the new dragon and whatever event is to come!
|Posted by: andromedae Dec 24 2016, 11:41 AM|
|Well, just found out my Snow Angels are White winged! I was hoping for that kind or the gold-winged variants, but very pretty either way. Managed to get 2 third-gen Hollies and at least a pair of every breed from past years. Phew. Now I'm unlocked with two spots exactly, ready to receive this year's dragons later on.|
|Posted by: fuzzbucket Dec 24 2016, 11:52 AM|
But - which holiday ? By no means everyone here celebrates Christmas.

| Browns because of chestnuts, hot chocolate, nut-crackers and the hearth of a fire
And purple because I just like that colour and it reminds me of mulled wine...
I also phrased it wrong, I meant to say I wa swondering if there would be a dragon with such colours.
I personally hope for a Christmas-light based dragon
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 24 2016, 12:25 PM|
True, but those colors don't fit Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or any other winter holiday I'm aware of. (Actually, now that I'm thinking about that, the Aegises are rather Hanukkah-ish, with their white and blue.) Hanukkah would blue and white, or blue white and silver - maybe with golden or fiery touches to represent the candles or the menorah itself. Kwanzaa would be black, red, green, and yellow, IIRC? Winter Solstice would basically be natural colors, most likely - green and brown for trees, and/or white and dark blue for snow and sky, maybe? Hmmm... what else is there...
Browns might work if accompanied by green, I think - would come across as rather tree-y, suitable for Christmas or Winter Solstice. I love your list of associations, but have a hard time imagining a single dragon that could convey them all, alas!
I can't think of anything that's both brown and purple, now that you mention it. There's several nice brown dragons, though - bronze Lunar Herald, Enraged Aegis, Caligene, arguably Candelabras... And several nice purple ones.

| I'm actually not that excited about the Holiday Event anymore. I was in the beginning, but now I'm kinda like whatever. Hopefully I'll get all excited again when it starts.
I had to double-check TJ's posts to make sure that old holidays could still breed tomorrow, I think that's when I'll do the rest of my breeding.
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 24 2016, 12:45 PM|
golden red orange dragon that looks like its glowing would be amazing as a dragon based off of a christmas fire/ candle flames for hanukkah
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 24 2016, 12:49 PM|
Ooh, that WOULD be pretty. Or one that was mostly golden with a ridge of flame going down its back, or a series of glowy spikes with flames on them? Would hearken to both a menorah and a Christmas candle.
EDIT: Come to think of it, all the winter holidays I know of use candles or fire at least peripherally, so a candle dragon would be a really good idea.
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 24 2016, 12:50 PM|
the spikes could be made out of flames! i would love to see a candle dragon for a holiday or even just a regular release
|Posted by: silver_chan Dec 24 2016, 12:53 PM|
The Candelabra dragons have flame-like lights on their wings, and I'm pretty sure they're at least partially based on candles...
But I'd also love another candle-based dragon, especially if it was also visually Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza/winter holiday based.
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 24 2016, 12:59 PM|
oh i see those little lights cant believe i never noticed them before! i just wish for candle based they were more red and orange instead of brown.
anyways 12 more hours for the christmas event to start. wonder whats it gonna be and are we going to get the raffles or something similar to that end back
|Posted by: AngelKitty Dec 24 2016, 01:00 PM|
|It's been several years since I've been here for a Christmas, and I have to say I'm impressed with how common hollies are now. I went into the AP prepared to spend hours looking for even one, and I caught tons of them! I remember when even messy, long-lined hollies were worth CB golds. I'm not complaining but what the heck lol.|
|Posted by: Ninjakittee Dec 24 2016, 01:02 PM|
|I'm hoping for a drake Holiday. We have a Pygmy holiday already, and I want something nice to breed with thise sweet Honeys we just got ^.^|
|Posted by: Marie19R Dec 24 2016, 01:44 PM|
|A lot of people don't like the idea of a restricted breeding group for a holiday dragon, but I too would love a drake. Or a two-head. Something totally different.|

|Hey let's measure the rate of how impossible it is to get a mistletoe, yulebuck or holly from ap|
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 24 2016, 02:00 PM|
| hardest would be mistletoe they're just not there
next would be holly
last would be yulebuck i see them often enough

| almost 99% of AP is wrapping wings, ribbon dancers, and butterbuts
then 0.0000000000000000000001% is the rest'
and SWEET WINDSINGER i just grabbed a mistletoe
and then the rest... thanks RNG for that, now i hope you didn't steal all the luck from fr
|Posted by: SullenCat Dec 24 2016, 02:14 PM|
| From the hardest to the easiest:
- everything else
ETA: and is hard to find a 2g Yulebuck, as hard as to find a 3G Holly
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 24 2016, 02:23 PM|
| Wow, I have a totally different scale. I've been catching way too many Mistletoes and having to make myself throw stuff back in order to achieve my goals for other breeds. Mistletoes aren't rare at all, they're just going quickly.
For me the grabbing difficulty scale has been like...
Non-Messy or Unknown/First-Drop Holly (in short, an egg none of the current AP hunters have seen yet, as opposed to a messy that people have caught and dropped once before)
And everything else is easy. Was even able to get some G2 Yulebucks from friends of mine who grabbed them but don't particularly like Yulebucks (at least, not enough to resist the shiny offers I made LOL) If you're not picky about gen/lineage, it's actually really easy to get a Yulebuck.
|Posted by: Siliskor Dec 24 2016, 02:28 PM|
|I've had no problem catching Aegides, just caught the last one I need for freezing. I'll have enough open slots by tomorrow to get my 2 new Christmas eggs & then the fun of sorting everything out seeing what new stuff will need mates will begin.|
|Posted by: Shokomon Dec 24 2016, 02:28 PM|
| It almost CHRISTMA
MERY CHRISTMA EVE
Edit: Now, that that is out of my system, let me say it properly.
Merry Christmas' Eve!
Good luck catching stuff.
Anyone excited for the event? I kinda miss having the event before Christmas.

|Posted by: andromedae Dec 24 2016, 02:33 PM|
|When it comes to dropping frequency for Xmas breeds, it really depends on the day. People breed different things at different moments. For example, at the beginning of the breeding, there were lots of Snow Angels, Wrapping Wings and Yulebucks (still many out there), then transitioned into a wall Ribbon Dancers later on. For the rest of the dragons, Mistletoes were quite rare at first, as well as Solstices, starting to pop up more and more and now they've become scarce again. Aegides have been dropping occasionally, but they've been uncommon/rare since the start. Winter Magi are somewhere in the middle. Hollies aren't too rare, it's just that they're being grabbed extremely quickly. Persistence is the key here, it might take a while to get what you want but patience will get you more than you think!|
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 24 2016, 02:47 PM|
| The AP is honestly like a big treasure box during holidays. If you can discipline yourself to just keep sifting, you can find some AMAZING stuff. I love it.
My issue with Aegis has mainly been that when I've been hunting they tend to pop up at the same instant as a Holly... and my brain will freeze for a split instant to decide which to grab for... but of course -any- hesitation is too much and they'll both be gone.
|Posted by: purrr Dec 24 2016, 07:58 PM|
|Will we only be allowed two new holiday dragons again or more?|
|Posted by: purpledragonclaw Dec 24 2016, 07:59 PM|
| The limit will be two, unless we hear differently.
For me, I see Aegis the least, then Holly. I've had a hard time finding any Aegis, let alone the shimmerkin I'm stalking.
|Posted by: purrr Dec 24 2016, 08:00 PM|
|Thank you for the reply and what is a shimmerkin?|
|Posted by: CellyBean Dec 24 2016, 08:13 PM|

| *bounces into thread* It's almost here it's almost here!
I won't be able to pick up the new dragon eggs until tomorrow afternoon when I have some eggs hatching and some hatchlings growing up. But I'm looking forward to seeing them! And the event, I wonder what it will be?
|Posted by: missy20201 Dec 24 2016, 09:42 PM|
Aw I'm sorry. We had to cancel our Christmas eve plans too, since my little sister's been running a fever. I hope you feel better soon!

HURRY UP AND HATCH SO I HAVE ROOM FOR THE NEW EGGS OMG
|Posted by: AveryCF Dec 24 2016, 10:14 PM|
| Ah- um... I just posted but what the hey I actually have something somewhat on topic to ask as an excuse to make another post.
Last year I completely missed the Aegis Dragon drop. (Last years xmas dragon.) Are they breedable this year? I haven't seen any in the abandoned cave and i'm wondering if people just can't breed theirs yet, they're only breeding up one egg and no extras to auto abandon, or are they just rare to see in the cave because likely everyone (Like me/in my situation) wants them? I mean- of course I want room for the new eggs... But if they're gonna be dropping for quite a bit even after Christmas, that gives me enough time to replenish previous years dragons before I bother getting a set of the new ones releasing tomorrow. ;3; (It's 7pm on Christmas eve for me, but for those of you reading this on THEIR Christmas day, Merry Christmas! x'D)
|Posted by: StormBirdRising Dec 24 2016, 10:14 PM|
| Less than 5 hours until the new Christmas Dragons. I can't even imagine what it will be like, but if the new dragons we've had are any indication, the Christmas Dragons will be sensational. I can't wait and I hope my eggs hatch so I'm able to get some tonight.
|Posted by: StormBirdRising Dec 24 2016, 10:17 PM|
I bred both of mine, and both had clutches of eggs, and I was able to grab 2 eggs that someone else bred also. They do seem to be rare though, I think because there are less of them than the other Christmas dragon eggs.
|Posted by: AveryCF Dec 24 2016, 10:19 PM|
Understandable seeing this would be their first ever year to be able to breed, given they were new releases last year. I guess i'll just have to keep looking and hope I get lucky, but thank you for killing my suspicions. I was worried I might of just been looking for something that wouldn't pop up. x'D
EDIT: I just saw one but I was too slow and someone already grabbed it, darnit... Doesn't help my nets been slow all night. x'D
|Posted by: andromedae Dec 24 2016, 10:21 PM|
Ah, thanks a ton for the get well soon wishes! I hope to feel at least a bit better for tomorrow. Sending good vibes to your younger sister too, indeed getting sick during holidays is the worst!
|Posted by: StormBirdRising Dec 24 2016, 10:22 PM|
Good luck and don't give up hope. Some people breed their Christmas dragons on Christmas Day so there should be more of them.

Waiting for the Cristamas Dragons!
|Posted by: greycat Dec 24 2016, 11:00 PM|
|i still have quite a lot of dragons left to breed. i bred a pretty even gen holly not long ago, and i have several more 2g holidays to breed. i've bred both my aegis dragons, but lots of others left to breed. just waiting for other eggs to hatch to give me space. i'm trying to catch mistletoes in the ap, but there are so few of them. i'll breed my messy ones near the end of breeding, so they can be last in the ap for people who need things to freeze.|
|Posted by: Sapphira_Majoram Dec 24 2016, 11:11 PM|
| I specifically saved two egg slots just to be ready for the new dragon drop tonight. Just a little under an hour left to go! <3
I keep looking for mistletoes for my friend but missing them. >^< At least I got two Solstices that will look great frozen as an S2 :3 one is an egg and the other is an S1. :3
*looks at his eggies* ... D I have mostly Solstices this year. The only Aegis is one I bred myself with the second Aegis as a gift to a friend. T^T
I already collected at least one sprite of every holiday dragon I need. :3 All I'm doing is just matching up lineages now and collecting some pretty new ones of Solstices with some Winter Magi and trying for a good Wrapping Wing or two. The WW don't have very good lineages compared to the others unfortunately (at least to my eyes). :/
Merry Christmas Eve for those who celebrate, Happy Hanukkah for those who celebrate, and a late happy Yule and Winter Solstice for those who celebrated that. Soon-to-be Merry Christmas Day for those who celebrate. :3 <3

Hopefully my egg will hatch soon and I'll escape from egglock, haha.

|Posted by: tishavara Dec 24 2016, 11:17 PM|
The 25th is the last day for breeding.
|Posted by: Lurhstaap Dec 24 2016, 11:26 PM|
|So many new Hollies on my scroll! <3 Of course, several are from my deadline project, but I also got a beautiful G4 spiral with Green Copper from the Holly Contest, and managed to catch a G4 stair with Frilled in the AP, and I traded for an exquisite G3 Holly from Gold. So much happy! Not caught as many Aegises as I want but that may be partly due to overloading on Mistletoes and Solstices.|

|Posted by: SkyWolf25 Dec 24 2016, 11:28 PM|
If your time is the same as cave time, then yes.
They'll be here in about 30 minutes!
|Posted by: rampaging wyvern Dec 24 2016, 11:35 PM|

|Eeeee so much excite. RL has been difficult this year - I know for a fact I won't be getting any gifts, for instance - so I'm relying a lot on my games to provide holiday cheer this year. Thankfully DC does a great job of that. Two shiny new CBs and 12 whole days of event is a nice present in itself. Plus the beautiful new dragons I've gotten in trading and the AP.|
|Posted by: BlueMint Dec 24 2016, 11:48 PM|
Same boat here! c:
This is honestly the worst year yet. And no, I am not exaggerating >.< I didn't even get a birthday present, least of all a Christmas present So Im gonna go catch myself some Holiday dragons. Gifts from me to me lol

I'm on time with cave time, so midnight is midnight for me. However, I only got 3-4 hours of sleep last night. Surprisingly I'm not all that tired, but I'm not planning to catch anything. I'll wait till I wake up in the morning. I just want to be on while the new dragons start getting released. And...ya know. See the egg sprite, all that good stuff.
EDIT: ONLY 2 MORE MINUTES

Although I think I'll wait to try getting lost and discouraged in that game until at least some of the lag (ideally) dies down and at least some of the glitches get cleared out, lol.
And must express my hopes for Happy Holidays and a very happy New Year to us all!

I got my two new eggs and have a few spaces left for AP hunting. I still have not bred most of my Christmas dragons, so will do that later today. I have bred all the ones I wanted for extending lineages, so the ones I breed today will all go to the AP unless they have Z codes.
Happy Holidays to all my DC friends, TJ, mods, artists, event planners and all who have contributed so much to the fun of the holiday season and the past year!

| I would like to issue a formal apology to any and all of the 38 people whose Aegis offspring ended up on my scroll this year. I started out this holiday season intending to be responsible and finish getting the frozen hatchies I needed and such, and ended up collecting Aegis dragons and naming them Doggo.
(King Vindictus is my CB so he doesn't count.)
But yeah if you see a Doggo in your offspring list just know it's because I am incapable of being a serious person with impulse control.
