Auto-add Feature for Groups

Ever created a group that's made up completely of a particular lineage or breed of dragon? The problem is that you'll have to update them constantly, whenever you get a new egg of that lineage/breed. This is where an auto-add feature could come in handy.

 

Since purposes for groups can be rather different, I'd like to see the following options:

Automatically add all dragons of this breed: Select breed(s)

Automatically add all dragons with XXX in their name. Would auto-add all dragons with a certain surname, for example Dorkface, Thuwed, Dusk... you get the idea.

Automatically add all dragons related to select dragon(s) here.

 

The first option apparently enables you to keep breed-specific groups up to date.

 

The second is probably better for breeding projects that use a specific surname, but also things like Z' (for the Z project) would work here.

 

Third would also work for breeding project with a certain starting pair.

 

 

Another option would be code-based.

Automatically add all dragons with all-letter code / all-caps code / all-numbers code / code containing abc / starting with abc / ending with abc. However, this seems a little bit more complicated. (Dunno.)

I was just creating groups. If you go to add and pick ANY old dragon of the breed you want, even if it's in there already, you can "add all of that breed."

 

Now actually I find it very annoying that the ones that are already in there are available to select to be added again, but still, it works.

But you should not need to do that manually every time a new dragon of a certain breed grows up. It would be much more convenient if new dragons could be added to groups automatically like Olympe was suggesting. Yes it is easy to make groups with existing dragons (if sorting by these criteria) but taking care of grouping new dragons is still incredibly inefficient.

I think you're missing the point of this suggestion?

 

The point is to make it so that the minute they hit your scroll as eggs they get added to specific groups instead of you having to manually do it every time. So every egg/hatchie of X breed goes into Y group when one is obtained based on criteria you've assigned to the group.

I would really appreciate this. I was thinking about groups I want to make the other day, but I definitely won't be able to well keep up with keeping lineage or breed groups updated (why I still haven't made a Holly Contest group, which I said I would weeks ago). I'd love for a "keep this auto-updating" option for selection.

That was the idea, yes. Although the groups based on a naming scheme will have to wait for the hatchlings to come out of their eggs.

This is a great suggestion! I prefer to update mine manually but I can see how this would help people keep their Groups organized more easily.

This is a great idea. Even if it's decided that naming schemes are too hard to implement as an auto, it would be fantastic for breed or lineage specific.

Searched before making a new topic and found this. This would be soooooooo helpful!! I'm currently in the process of making groups for each different subtype of dragon (western, eastern, etc) and I am already dreading how hard it's going to be to remember to keep them up to date as I get more dragons. It's not really even about wanting them to be added automatically so I don't have to bother with it, but I *know* I'm simply not going to *remember* to add every single dragon to their subtype group, or heck even remember that those groups exist! It would be very very *very* helpful to just be able to check something like 'add this breed automatically' and then every time I get a new one of that breed it will just automatically get added to that group. 

 

(I really really love the Groups feature but there are SO many things that would make the feature so much better and easier to use!!)

Thank you for bumping this, I was just thinking of making the same suggestion!

 

I keep a few breeds in their own groups (mostly for BSAs) and would love to have them auto-added to the appropriate group as soon as they hit my scroll. Adding dragons to groups is tedious enough already, and I'm always going to want new Purples added to my Purples group, for example, so there's no need to make that an extra step.

My idea was to add a checkbox under each of the options.

Like,

*Just these dragons

*Lineage

     [] Add all future dragons in this lineage

*Same breed

     [] Add all future dragons of this breed

Being able to auto-add by name would be nice, too.

I'd love something like that; it's a real pain to have to manually track everything in a lineage, especially for a very large one. I'd also like an add-by-name function.
