We want Forum Feedback!

Recommended Posts

Hey, Corteo, you could have PMed me not to keep sharing the time post.

Even so, I agree that there should be a designated info post regarding releases (or mods should edit the first post like they do for holidays and events).

The only reason I even shared it to begin with was that people weren't reading the thread to find the info whether it was two pages or two posts ahead of them.

Now that I've seen it's not wanted though, I'll stop posting. Frankly, I'm surprised the wiki hasn't updated with the time chart. It's still listed as a "speculation" on their release page.

Jazeki, I am another that is so grateful that when I checked into the News thread, your post was the first thing I saw. I would like to see an info post on the first page that we could be directed to, but barring that, I loved your solution and assistance.

I believe TJ could reserve the first post after the announcement, and enable mod editing for it? Then someone like Socky (or one of the mods from the section) could keep it updated. I'm sure people would catch on pretty fast that this was a thing. And if not, and they're asking in the thread, there would be plenty who would direct them there.

If he reserves the post then we don't have to be concerned about someone being fast enough to grab the slot. It would always be there.

This would definitely be the simplest solution if TJ is willing. Plus, TJ could just say in the first post to check the second post for usermade FAQs, info, spoilers, etc.

Otherwise, the first mod on can grab their first post for editing, but that requires deleting any posts before it, which I know isn't fun for users.

I know a lot of users appreciate the repeat posts, there are probably lots like me who don't really have an opinion on them, but there are also multiple users bothered by the repeat posts, which I know from reports and the like. So a compromise that provides the information but requires less re-posting (therefore making it more obvious when someone has whatever kind of update to share) is good with me.

Random question, but would you all be interested in seeing all releases added to the forum calendar or just stay holidays (as it makes it easier to tell how many days are left at a glance)?

"How many days are left" ? But they aren't scheduled....

If we get the release warning ahead of time, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, I don't see the appeal.

Holidays = holiday events, which go on for multiple, but limited, days...

I am not given a head's up for releases (nor would I be allowed to ruin the announcement of a release if I was), so thumbs_up.png . Thanks for answering!

Yes, I was asking if people would want regular releases on the calendar in addition to holidays or keep it just holidays.

That was where I got confused. What do you mean by regular releases ? You can't put them up there till they happen, so what would that tell us ? I don't know about you, but I use a calendar to remind me something is going to happen...

However, I think that the pre-announcement of holiday breeding periods, if not holiday release dates / other recurring fun stuff like the Easter egg hunt should go in the calendar.

I would love to see an Announcement in the calendar. That way I could be not egg-locked and be prepared.

That will only EVER work for holidays/holiday breeding.

I don't get pre-warning of releases, nor would I be allowed to spoil if I did, so unfortunately, I can't help with what you want. ^^

Sorry for misleading everyone! D:

With the new software, is it possible to introduce something to prevent emojis from showing up when we type, etc? I love using "xD" from my MSN emo days... but I loathe the emoji that pops up when it's typed out. Or, could we possibly change the shortcut for certain emojis? Instead of "xD" for XD we have to type like ":xD:" (similar to wub?).

Wiki - well, as is always said on these occasions - it isn't official...

Not a fan of that comment considering how much work many of us put in (spriters included) to make it as accurate as possible. Another user was correct in pointing out that while something is being released, we have to be careful in what we say is true or not because while people may not realise it, the wiki bears the brunt of both angry players and DC staff/spriters.

Which brings me to the main point I wanted to make regarding topic "info posts"- I highly doubt TJ will ever allow the first post to contain important information during release. It's been a prevailing theme through the years that TJ is not a fan of spoilers, something very old players will remember why the wiki was made in the first place, and is even to this day something the wiki can come under fire for. While it's not as strictly moderated as it used to be, this theme continues in the form of people having to figure it out themselves, whether this is gathering info posts on the release thread or gathering the info on the wiki. The question I guess then falls to the people wanting to maintain this information on the thread itself versus what the moderators believe is an appropriate level of re-posting; perhaps this is something the moderators could address? Put a guideline per say, like "every 5 pages gets a repost" or something akin. It can't all fall to moderators maintaining an info post (especially considering this may not be something they're allowed to do depending on TJ) and it can't all fall to a single user who battles to get a post on the first page. Having the info post on the first page also kinda raises another question- what about those concerned about spoilers? Some people genuinely want to figure it out on their own, and that's fair enough.

I too edit it, frequently. But it still ISN'T official, and I'm sure you too have been around on days when some prankster has shown up and deliberately put junk in there. Not to mention the many occasions when people go in and edit according to what they genuinely believe - incorrectly (Baikalas, just the other day, were an example. Someone who had - freakishly, I gather, as TJ posted about this -- caught a blue in the jungle was determined that that should be in the wiki. So it REALLY isn't safe to regard it as The Reliable Word. Even though many of us - especially you and also people like me and many others - do our level best to keep it correct.

I know how much you put in, and you do know that I also pay close attention.

I believe it's been suggested before that an info post directly after the official announcement post would be helpful. Mods could keep that easily updated with relevant information and those who don't want spoilers wouldn't have to look. I'm not certain but I believe it would be simple for TJ to make sure the 2nd post in any news thread was reserved.

The wiki is great. The work people do to keep it up to date and accurate is wonderful. But having an info post on the news thread would get added facts to the users faster during releases and events and make it so those who tend to gather and repost relevant info don't have to keep reposting it. They could just refer people to the info post.

From the article's page:

When first released, an error occurred where the different color variations of this dragon dropped in unintended biomes: green variants appeared in all 3 biomes and blue variants appeared in the Coast and Jungle. This was then later corrected and addressed by

TJ09 on the forums.[1]

I was the one who found this on the day of release, I remember going crazy and even asked on the forums if someone had caught a blue Forest one because I thought the biomes they were dropping in were strange. While I agree that there is indeed vandalism, this is the point I'm trying to make- people make assumptions about the wiki that just aren't fair.

Oh I completely agree, I'm in favour of this idea as well. I'm just highlighting a probable reason for why it hasn't happened yet or why it may not happen, and offered an alternative if the mods can work with users instead.

Yes they do. But the fact remains that it CAN be mis-edited, and even vandalised. And the other day someone here did say, after TJ said how it was supposed to be, it was still wrong and showed the wrong info - so I went over to edit - but it wasn't, this time.

I would LOVE an accurate post on the news page. Support 100%

But I can recall one occasion where there was something WRONG on a new release page and I kept going back in and changing it - and "whoever" kept changing it back (I think they were saying it was a pygmy - and it had already been establishes that it was biteable...). It's the same with actual Wikipedia - I have edited MANY TIMES some stuff about Elizabeth I that was factually wrong - and someone keeps going in and changing it back. And they wonder why kids get history wrong...

I would like to see Tiny Little Questions pinned to the top of the Help section. It's such a small thing to ask and I'd rather not start a new thread entirely. Lol.

That sounds like a great idea! I honestly thought it used to be pinned ages ago, but I'm probably just imagining that. It would be a good thing to keep up the top so it doesn't get lost.

It wouid also be good if it were regularly closed and re-opened in a new thread fairly regularly, so that it is more easily searchable...

And talking of such things, there is stuff gone from the FAQ that people need to know and which doesn't seem to be anywhere else - like levels... Yes it needed cleaning - but still.
