War Never Changes

Recommended Posts

Plot

There are two different packs are fighting over the town. In werewolf form, our two lovers don't recognize each other due to the evil force casting a spell on them but in the end, the packs must merge to fight off the evil force. Will they be able to set aside any differences that they have towards each other to do this and will Ace and Maxine, the two lovers, be able to recognize each other in wolf form?

He had been panting, sprinting down a dark alley as the moon grinned teasingly down on his athletic stature. The young boy leaned against the dumpster, gritting his teeth, squeezing his blue eyes shut. He immediately thrusted his head in between his knees as he took on the fetal position, cowering as he slumped to the ground. Ace's heart continued to race like an eager thoroughbred, although he tried to will it to stop. He knew that it would only make his scent of fear spread even faster, and only make it easier for them to track him. Being this exhausted truly meant something for the young blond male. He ran plenty in his relentless soccer practice, to the point where he was an obvious pick for starter. Maybe, just maybe...he had outrun them? But Ace did not move from his terrified fetal position. He knew Avion would stand up cockily, taunt his pursuers and dare them to try anything. Avion was brave, or perhaps he was nothing but bumptious fool. Ace couldn't exactly tell, but sometimes, he thought it was the latter.

After much self-coaxing, Ace slowly pushed himself to his quivering legs. They screamed in agony from all the sprinting he had been doing, trying his best to avoid his chasers. Had he succeeded? Failed? He was aware that there was only one way of finding out. Hesitantly, the frightened human glanced down the dark alley way, praying that it wouldn't be like one of those horror movies where the monster appeared out of nowhere.

Unfortunately for Ace, it was like one of those horror movies.

There stood the looming dark figure of a massive black canine, bottom chin lightly flecked with silver, like the remaining snowflakes on a warm day after a light snow. The wolf, too, was exhausted from this chase. A small string of drool hung from his chops, while his coal-black fur was flattened along his flanks and covered with hot sweat. This clearly wasn't your typical wolf, he was of no standard size. The bestial canine who had hunted Ace for miles was of a towering size, rippling with muscle. And then, there were his eyes. They were those of no every-day wolf, something gleamed within them, something that Ace was unable to read.

If only he knew that it was his father.

Maxine was in the woods with Rey on their side of the woods, patrolling although it was a bit late to do that but that's the time of day that they preferred so that they wouldn't have to get up early in the morning to do it like Like sometimes made them do. He even went with them at times but he was too busy with completing inventory on both the food storage and supplies buildings to make sure that they had enough food and supplies to last them awhile. Also while they were on patrol, they sometimes hunted if they needed anymore food but they didn't do that this time because they didn't know if they needed to get any this time around. When all seemed to be okay and there weren't any new scents from the wolves in the Umbra Pack on any of their trees, they started to head back but then Rey heard a twig behind them snap. That made both of them freeze and sniff the air cautiously.

They weren't sure if it just happened to be another creature in the woods like a normal wolf, deer, wolverine, badger, etc. or even one of their enemies. When whatever it had been came out from behind a bush, they saw it was just a mouse and sighed in relief to head back to their town to report to Luke that all was normal for now. Rey said that she would do that as Max went to the dining area to get something to eat.

Cecil huffed under his breath, the magnificent wolf taking a daring step forward, letting out a muffled snarl. His beady amber eyes rested on his son in a challenging manner, although fatherly affection secretly glimmered behind his tough glare. He was set on forcing his son to shift into a wolf. Ace was yet to reveal his wolf form, if he had it. Slowly, Cecil's pack was starting to doubt that they're forcefully selected heir was even a werewolf. Nonetheless, Cecil the black alpha wolf kept his hard glare on his frightened son, peeling back his salt-and-pepper chops to reveal deadly, blood-thirsty fangs. Furhter terrified by this motion, Ace suddenly took a step back while gasping, accidentally thudding against the hollowed dumpster. And then at once, the boy went still, forcing his eyes shut and awaiting the wolf's attack. Surely after that (accidental) sudden movement, the beast would lurch forward and tear his throat out? The blond kid opened his eyes and stole a glance at the wolf, who know seemed to be glowering at the human cockily, as if smug by Ace's fear. This irritated Ace a bit, but he still refused to budge. He wish his father, Cecil, was by his side to protect him. Or Avion and his dumb braveness. But if only Ace knew that before him was actually his father, in the shape of a gallant and fearless beast.

It seemed like out of nowhere that the other wolf appeared. She made Ace feel oddly...safer in her presence, despite the fact that she was also probably wanting to tear him to tiny bits and pieces. Yet, this young white wolf moved elegantly to the side of the big charcoal wolf (Cecil), giving his broad shoulder a gentle nudge with her unscathed black nose. She appeared much graceful and a lot less threatening than the dark wolf, but this was probably because she wasn't snarling directly at him and bearing her fangs like she hadn't eaten in months. The black wolf turned his attention to the white wolf beside him, immediately relaxing his features and speaking to her telepathically, like most werewolves in his pack did. What do you want, Farah? Can't you see that I'm busy here? He asked her mentally with an impatient flick of his short and stubby ear. The white wolf fearlessly held his gaze, returning the telepathic message.

Dear Alpha Cecil, what in the world are you attempting to do to your son? I may not be a parent, but I doubt that this is how you're supposed to treat your child. Haven't you told him of what you are, of what runs in his veins? He needs to know the truth, and he needs to know what great responsibility you're trying to place on his shoulders. Farah seemed to almost be begging her Alpha, briefly glancing back over at Ace. The poor child was scared stiff, frozen and pressed against the dumpster he had bumped himself against. Perhaps he'd pass out, and just think everything had been one big bad dream? It was wishful thinking. Cecil's gaze darkened, burning into Farah as he let out a warning growl.

Do not tell me how to raise my child! Ace is our heir, and I'm sick of our packmates and those cursed Moonlighters mocking him, just because he's unable to shift. He's a werewolf, I know it! No, I haven't told him about what I am, about what he is. But he'll find out soon enough, as soon as I help him shift into a wolf...even if it means I have to scare the wolf out of my son. Cecil's telepathic voice seemed to grow more gentle as he continued along, clearly disappointed that his son, Ace, was incapable of shifting into a wolf...Cecil feared that his son, his only child...was incapable of shifting. He feared that his son would be normal, he feared that his son wasn't a werewolf at all. And if he wasn't? What would Cecil's pack do to him? What would the Moonlighters do to him?

((when should we have them meet?))

After Max ate her evening snack, she and Luke went into the woods to hunt a few small pieces of prey to add to their food stock building in case they were needed later. She didn't expect there to be any problems with Umbra pack members but they would still have to be careful nonetheless. When they reached a really old tree in the middle of the two packs, they split up to see who would catch what in either direction. She caught a few mice and moles and buried them near a bush close by before going off and seeing if she could catch a few more small pieces of prey.

Luke caught a few pieces of prey himself before also burying them near a bush that was close by and after he caught a few more pieces of prey, he unburied the ones he had caught earlier and then met up with Max again after she had also gathered her pieces of prey and then they started to head back to their pack.

((want to have some sort of confrontation between the two now or should it happen a bit later?))

Ace watched the two beasts with round, terrified optics before sliding away a bit. Perhaps he could sneak off while the two wolves were occupied with one and other? But as soon as he moved, the dark wolf raised his head to bare his fangs and release a rumbling warning growl. At once, the boy froze back up and slid back down to the ground, watching the dark beast with fear lighting up his gaze. Returning his sharp amber gaze to Farah, Cecil went on with his ramblings. Look, Ace is my son, and I know what I'm doing. I am your alpha, never argue with me again, Farah. Around here, my word is law, and it needs to stay that way. Got it? Now, run off and send out some border patrols, my attempts are obviously failing right now... With a dismissive flick of his powerful tail, Cecil ordered Farah off, and the white wolf did as she was told. The beta gracefully pelted away, leaving the massive black wolf to his son. But Cecil made no further attempts. While Ace remained huddled against the dumpster, the black wolf huffed in frustration before disappearing.

It took Ace a while to feel secure at long last, so he nervously shuffled out of the alley. He needed to get away from this place, and fast, before those wolves found him again. They had shown him mercy this time, and for all he knew, wouldn't the next. Ace moved slowly at first, the boy cautiously looking over his shoulder as he walked silently on his two legs. And then, before he knew it, he was sprinting out of there, finally clear of the wolves. He approached a woods before stopping in his tracks. Maybe the wolves lived there? In that case, it wasn't a smart idea to enter. But for some reason, the area felt...weird and unsafe, as if it was forbidden for him to be there.

Little did he knew, Cecil the massive black wolf was tracking his son, and was now breaking into a run.

Ace was entering the Moonlighter's territory.

Max and Luke were just minutes away from their pack's entrance when they caught the scent of an Umbra pack member. They both froze before she told the former, Go back to the pack with our prey and I'll catch up to you. I'll also be fine so you don't have to worry about me. She then dropped her pieces of prey for him to pick up which he did and then once she watched him leave and go into their camp, she headed back in the direction that they had come from to hide behind some trees to see which one of the other pack's members it was that was crossing into her pack's territory.

Ace took a daring step forward, taking in a sharp breath as he glanced around. It seemed....quiet. In a hauntingly terrifying way. No longer did he hear the sounds of birds, or the rustling of hungry rodents searching for scraps. All had gone silent, as if it was afraid of being eaten at any moment. Wide-eyed, the boy continued to glance around, confused as to why he'd never seen such a place before. Nor had his father, Cecil, ever taken him to this area for family picnics or events. But why? The poor boy was oblivious to the fact of werewolves and the unfortunate war occurring between the two enemy packs. If someone had told him, he wouldn't believe it anyways. Werewolves were something found in story books, not in the real world.

Meanwhile, the exhausted Cecil was hot on his son's trail. Ugh, why did his son have to move so swiftly? The black wolf's tongue hung out of the side of his mouth as he pressed on, eventually slowing his pace. Goodness, he hated getting old...after the loss of Ace's mother, Cecil had to raise him single-handedly, leaving him with little time to shift into his wolf form. As a result, he was out of shape, although he still remained strong. As a human, he was certain to work out frequently, seeing that his son was an active being. But, the boy was still so far off...Cecil was still in Umbra Pack territory, far away from the border. What if he couldn't get to Ace in time?! Surely, the Moonlighter pack would show mercy to a mere oblivious human?

Max crept along in the shadows provided by the trees, keeping an eye on the boy in the center of the woods. She then quietly stepped out a few minutes later after shifting to her human form.

"What are you doing here?" she asked with her arms now crossed and with a hard stare. "This isn't your territory." She had seen this boy before but was unaware of his inability to shift although she knew that he was a member of the Umbra pack and her enemy. Maybe he could help her end the war but first she needed to know why he was in her territory.

Territory...? The boy had seen no property lines, if that was what this mysterious girl meant. Where had she come from, anyways? As far as Ace knew, there were no nearby out-of-town houses in these parts. "I...Aren't these national park lands? As far as I know, there isn't such thing as 'trespassing' in these places?" He 'raised a brow' at her, crossing his arms as he continued to survey the land. Was she lost, or something? She seemed kind of hostile in the way she talked, as if he had done something horribly wrong that broke numerous laws. "Unless you have a private property sign or something, I honestly see no wrong in taking a leisurely stroll. I'm just a typical boy, who wanted to go for a walk." Whoever this girl was, the athletic blond boy could not recognize her.

"That's what we want people to think so that they stay away from here. The area that you came from is where you belong. It's known as Umbra pack territory and this area that you're in now is Moonlighter territory; my territory. There is a war going on right now between this pack and the other one so I have to be cautious of everyone that steps foot here that isn't anyone I know personally," Max said in reply to everything he said and asked still with her arms crossed over her chest and the hard stare as well.

((Sorry for the late response, head cold got me))

Why was she going on about packs now...? Ace deemed this girl mentally unstable, and took a cautious step back. Was she one of those rare kids who got lost as a youngster, and then got raised by an animal in the wilderness? Maybe she was raised by wolves or something, which would explain the whole "pack" ordeal. "Look." The boy began with a sharply narrowed gaze from his blue optics, crossing his arms just as stubbornly. "There's no houses here, nor am I from a 'pack'. I'm a normal human boy, who plays soccer. Don't make me refer you to the authorities. I mean, you're really starting to creep me out with this whole 'war' thing." He tensed his jaws as he ended his comment, something his father did while tense. Speaking of his father, Cecil could spot his son in the distance. He remained in the shadows so he may stay undetected, as he hadn't seen the girl with him yet.

Max didn't say anything in reply to all that the boy said and just shifted into her wolf form to proofs her point. She stared at him, unblinking to gauge his reaction to what she just did and didn't care if he thought she was a monster. Maybe his dad could further prove to him that there was in fact a war going on or she could always bring him to the grave sites of those that lost their lives but she would let his father do that if he so wished to do that.

Ace leaped a foot in the air from surprise as the girl shifted into the wolf. Was that the one who had been chasing him?! No, that black wolf had been much larger, seemingly older and of great power. Speaking of said wolf, Cecil saw the girl shift. At once, he snarled in rage and leaped over his son, landing hard on the ground. He snapped his jaws at the air threateningly, bellowing at the girl. "Stay away from my son, Moonlighter swine!" Cecil bared his fangs as Ace fell on his rump, eyes round with terror. The wolf was back!!

I wasn't going to hurt him. I was just proving a point that this war and werewolves existed. He wasn't believing me. Plus he came into my territory and I was out patrolling when I saw him. You may want to get out of it before another one of my pack is a little less merciless and doesn't let you get away, Max said in reply to Cecil's snarl before she turned and headed back to her camp while shifting mid stride back to her human form as she did so.

((No, I really want to have him shift for the first time, still. It'll be a pretty big moment for him. C: Think you can have Luke try to attack Ace, and then trigger his transformation?))

"He's just a boy," Cecil growled deeply, the snarl rumbling low and threateningly in his throat. His eyes bore into the female black wolf, his limps remaining peeled back to show his sharp fangs. He snarled once more, lowering his head to an even more menacing position to reveal his skull-pinned ears. "He knows nothing of this quarrel, and is therefore innocent. It gives you no reason to attack him or even threaten him." Cecil briefly dropped his threatening appearance to peer over his shoulder and check on his frightened son. Ace was still frozen stiff in the corner, now pressed against a tree as he looked at his father with wide eyes. He clearly wasn't going anywhere for a while...although he did appear to become less tense as Maxine left. The black alpha wolf turned, staring at his son and approaching him cautiously. Ace tensed, preparing to feel teeth ripping into his flesh, but Cecil merely nuzzled his cheek.

((okay and sure. when should that happen? in the next post or so or a bit further out?))

Max had sighed when she heard what Cecil said. Apparently, he didn't believe her when she had said that she didn't hurt him earlier. She shifted back into wolf form when she was out of sight from the two other wolves from the rival pack and right when she made it to her own camp. She looked a bit crestfallen, apparently more so than she thought because Luke appeared beside her soon after and asking if she was okay. She gave him a tired smile and reassured him that she was fine before she went behind her house to be alone for a short while.

((Next post, please!))

Ace remained frozen solid at the touch of the wolf/his father. Wasn't this thing threatening him a while ago, in that dark alley? When it had been chasing him? And but a few moments ago, this black wolf was attempting to protect him from that girl who turned into a wolf...what was going on?! Why, why couldn't he just live a normal life...? If only he knew that things would only get crazier for him. Cecil backed away from Ace, noticing that he clearly wasn't making anything better with his son. He was still like a statue. Huffing in defeat, the wolf began to tug on his son's sleeve, attempting to guide him back home. But he still didn't budge. Ace was still in too much shock. Why did this wolf feel...familiar? Why did he feel this familial-like affection for it?
