Betrayed and Reborn

Recommended Posts

I'M BACK BABY

You were betrayed. They took everything from you. Your future. Your dignity. Your life.

A few of you took the fall on that day, becoming a scapegoat for a corrupt King and his court. Your names would be burned into history as villains, but it was through your deaths that the country was able to unify. Of course, that didn’t matter to you. After all, you died. And the dead have no grievances with the living.

Until you came back.

Plot

You were born as a human in an Earth overrun by many different sentient species. Each species had its own weaknesses, such as elves being able to use magic and humans having vast numbers and physical strength. Balance was barely held as each race largely stuck to its own devices. But when one was weakened, the others could not help but take advantage.

The current King of the human civilization and his court are filled with corruption. Using his rank and name, they stole from citizens, enforced horrible laws and plunged the country into poverty. The country shook with murmurs of a revolution, fueled by many of the other species hoping that civil unrest would give them the key to taking control of the continent. But the King was crafty, and with his advisors formulated a plot to shift the blame elsewhere. You and your friends were chosen because they wouldn’t be missed. They set you up and, in the wake of your executions, united the people. Seizing an opportunity, they secured their borders, trapping many other species within their walls and turning those captured into slaves.

But you came back. Born again, as something else. Something that may not even be human. It’s been twenty-three years since you returned. What's next is for you to decide.

-No Godmodding

-Please respect each other and the rules

-These rules are subject to change as I see fit.

Species

Each reborn person should be reborn as a different species. You may ask to reserve a species prior to putting up a character sheet to ensure someone else does not take it.

You may also request/add another fantasy species. Simply include a description about them including advantages and disadvantages and I will approve them if they are balanced. Do keep in mind this is a fantasy world, however. Technological developments should not exceed the Middle Ages with proto-canons being the maximum gun-powered artillery.

Elves Reserved by pudding

Unlike the classical portrayal of elves, the elves that inhabit this Earth are smaller, more fae like in appearance with long, pointed ears and rounded, childish features. Rarely reaching more than four feet in height, they live in the trees and forests where they use their magnificent skills in magic to shape the very land around them. The most asocial of all the creatures that inhabit the Earth, they rarely leave the forests and tend to concern themselves less with the matters of other creatures. More often than not, the elves found within human cities are slaves that have been dragged from their homes to use for their magic. Elves grow much slower than humans do, and can live significantly longer by thousands of years, though they rarely reproduce as a result.

Advantages: Elves are masters of magic and stealth. They can disappear into a crowd or forest with equal ease, and use the mystic arts to shape the world around them to their bidding.

Disadvantages: Small, frailer statures mean that they are more easily injured by other creatures and overrun by groups. They reproduce more slowly than other creatures, and when forced to use too much magic at once they will collapse. While they can put up a fight, if they cannot win within the first few moments of a fight they are usually down for the count.

Humans

These humans are similar to those found within the Middle Ages. While incapable of using magic, their technological advances more than make up for their lacking mystical abilities. They are one of, if not the only creatures capable of forcing iron tools, and their vast numbers and sheer resistance to the elements allows them to occupy most of the content whereas others are confined to only specific lands. Thanks to these efforts, humans occupy more than 50% of the lands on the Earth.

Advantages: Humans reproduce quickly and are armed with tools more advanced than other species. They are easily able to swarm other species, using sheer numbers to overwhelm larger creatures than themselves or those able to use magic.

Disadvantages: Humans, on their own, are less dangerous and hardly a threat. Easily stripped of their arms and isolated, they can be picked off one by one with ease.

Sprites Reserved by Narvix

Sprites, in the simplest terms, are less of one species and more of a collection of species. These are one of the smallest creatures to inhabit the Earth, ranging from the size of a small dog to a mouse and almost always possessing wings. They tend to have an element associated with them, such as water or fire, and are fairly harmless creatures unless threatened. They have been “domesticated” by humans and their purposes range from occupying lanterns to provide light to providing drinking water.

Advantages: These small creatures are difficult to strike and can easily zip away faster than the eye can follow, making them a difficult target. In addition, their {limited] knowledge of magic allows them to give painful strikes in rapid succession, with these attacks resembling bee stings.

Disadvantages: Pretty much any decent sized bird can kill one, meaning they rely on stronger species or massive swarms for aid to help to avoid dying constantly. An entire swarm of Sprites is needed to kill even one human

Goblins

These green creatures are shorter on average than humans, but taller than elves. Their green skin is sensitive to the light and they often dwell underground in caves, only emerging at night to pick off any traveller who have strayed too far from the path. While shorter than humans, they are strong and resilient and more than capable of taking down one or two humans on their own. Armed with crude, stone or copper weapons, they often hunt in small packs and eat whatever they find, regardless of what species it may be. Goblin slaves are often put to work, making buildings or working in mines for humans, although their nature makes them difficult to control and they are often isolated from each other to avoid schemings. Goblins age much faster than humans, and can grow to adulthood in only five years, however, they can live as long as humans can.

Advantages: Physically strong, capable of seeing in the dark and excellent hunters. Goblins are possibly one of the most dangerous creatures that exist.

Disadvantages: Their sensitive to light hinders most of their activities and can easily blind them. Some goblins that do choose to walk during the day are tied down by the thick cloth they must wear to avoid burning their skin. In addition, the stigma against goblins means that most creatures will avoid them, even if they are attempting to be friendly.

Changelings

The true form of a changeling is unknown. Using a unique magic known only to them, they assume the forms of other creatures, usually the young of some other species in order to gain care and food for food. They can adopt any disguise that they desire, however, they can only change their form once every week in a process that involves shedding their skin. They tend to keep to themselves and no known changeling civilizations have been found, as they instead simply act as parasites to other creatures.

Advantages: Changelings are some of the sneakiest creatures, capable of achieving any disguise they desire, though they often target humans. Changelings also make clever and genius thieves, and many well known bandits are simply changelings in disguise.

Disadvantages: Aside from their shape-changing abilities, changelings have little other abilities. A changeling that is discovered is often forced to flee or die.

SkyfolkCreated and reserved by Shadow_Claw

Skyfolk tower over humans, standing between 7.5 and 9.5 feet tall. Ther bodies are covered in soft feathers, with longer feathers forming decorative frills on their ears, tails, face, and the back of their limbs. Thick, retractable claws make them excellent climbers, which is incredibly useful given their mountainous homes. Their cities are shining beacons of knowledge and medicine, and they are on fairly good terms with humans thanks to trade negotiations in which humans trade forged iron tools that the Skyfolk will then enchant. Skyfolk are most known for their glasswork, which they use to remedy poor eyesight prevalent amongst their species with goggles of leather and tempered glass. Due to a conflict of location, Skyfolk are often at odds with the goblins who live in the foothills at the base of their mountains and frequent fighting lasts throughout the entire year.

Advantages: Skyfolk are remarkably intelligent and good at enchanting weapons, infusing them with magic to make them stronger. Their cities are remarkable and they are able to prolong their life through their masteries of medicine.

Disadvantages: Skyfolks are prone to poor health. While they possess six eyes, they are plagued by poor eyesight and may even lose several of their eyes throughout their lifetime. Arthritis and other joint issues affect older Skyfolk in huge numbers and their light bodies and thin bones make them especially vulnerable to injury.

Accepted Characters

Narvix

Original Name: Steven Jefferson

Name: Thisbe Whisply

Reborn species: Sprite

Age prior to death: 43 years

Appearance: Standing only a foot tall, Thisbe is a thin - almost frail - looking creature with long dragonfly wings. Mostly transparent, their wings have a golden edge that shimmer in the light. Their skin is sun-kissed, a similar complexion to a caramel coloring. With large, hazel eyes and sharp facial features, Thisbe has dark eyelashes and short black hair that sweeps and spikes in various ways, much like windswept hair.

For clothing, Thisbe mostly wears a single outfit stitched together using flower petals, tree leaves, and strips of bark. It consists of a top with a single shoulder strap on the right, a slanted bottom hem towards the left which exposes their right waist, and a pair of form-fitting trousers. They have no footwear as they spend most of their time in the air.

History prior to death: Steven was born into a merchant family. His father was a trader, making just enough success to keep his family fed, clothed, and sheltered. Steven’s mother worked at home, preferring to sell any quilts she made from their doorway instead of an actual shop. Growing up, Steven was taught by his father with the intention of following the same footsteps. However, Steven wanted to become a soldier. He sought fame for military feats and respect from everyone around him.

However, when it came time to be drafted and trained, Steven fell short of meeting the physical standards and was rejected. From then, he became a bitter tradesman, resenting the military and the kingdom for being a group of elitists.

History after death: Born from the pollen of a budding, red tulip, Thisbe was raised within the Cypria clan. Like the other Sprites in their clan, the color of Thisbe’s flower determined the element they could use; in Thisbe’s case, the red petals gave them limited control over fire. When Thisbe was old enough, they underwent their Talent Ceremony. Thisbe’s Patron, the leader of the Cypria clan, read their strengths and weaknesses off the tulip they were born from, thus selecting Thisbe for a life as a clan defender. A petal from their flower was stitched onto their clothing as recognition of their status.

Since then, Thisbe has been trained as a fighter, working in a squad with three other Cypria Sprites, each wielding a different element for tactical advantages.

Weapons: Two porcupine needles ideal for stabbing

Other: N/A

Name: Fable

Age: 79 years

Species: Changeling

Appearance: Currently, Fable has the form of a Maine Coon with dark red markings over a lighter, rusty shade. His toes on all four paws are covered in white fur and his tail is tipped in white. On the front of his chest and up his throat, he has a thin line of white fur that continues up to splash on his muzzle. His eyes are a yellowish-green, surrounded by dark fur. Around his neck, his fur is thickest, looking much like a lion’s mane. Easily around 18 pounds, Fable is about 16 inches tall at the top of his head and four feet long (from nose to tail tip).

History: Like most Changelings, Fable was born out of sight from the rest of the world. Once he was old enough to master his ability and fend for himself, his mother left him alone to his own devices. He became a nomad, as was expected of his kind, changing his form whenever he could. If he found a shape he particularly liked, he would spend at least a few weeks before changing again. Trouble became his closest friend but also his worst enemy. Eventually, he developed a small curiosity for the other species in the world around him and started a path to gradually learn about them.

Weapons: Whatever natural weapons his body possesses at the time

Other: N/A

pudding

Original Name: Joan “John” Crane

Name: Ridge

Reborn species: Elf

Age prior to death: 31

Appearance: Ridge is somewhat small for an elf, even considering he has not yet reached the age of majority by his species’ standards. Between being only three feet and eight inches tall, he is rounded, childish features, it is remarkably easy to mistake him at a glance for some human child. Of course, this impression is easily dispelled with one look at his ears. The remarkably long, pointed and almost wing-like ears easily set him apart from any human child. Medium length, curly silver hair frame his large ears and his skin is fairly dark, as is common among many elves.

Clothing wise, Ridge wears simple pants and a tunic made from animal skins and lined with fur to help keep out the chill. Patterns have been sewn into the pants and shirt out of dyed strips and strips of fabric are wrapped around the soles of his feet and palms of his hands, but he lacks any actual shoes. As a result, the bottoms of his feet and hands are calloused, meaning he has little difficulty traversing without shoes on a variety of terrain. When not venturing around with his clan, he usually wears a mask made of wood that is carved into the shape of a skull of an unknown animal.

History prior to death: Joan was born to a family of bakers, where she spent most of her early years living in poverty. However, when her parents died during her childhood, Joan managed to disguise herself as a young boy and apprentice under a knight of the city, eventually working her way through the ranks until she became a full fledged knight in adulthood. As a knight, she tended to spend less time enforcing laws and more time trying to help the starving masses, using the meager pay she made to feed families. She was eventually discovered by the King and, deciding it to be an opportune time to get rid of a nuisance and reinforce his rule, was executed alongside the other “villains”.

History after death: Ridge was born to a small clan of elves in an ancient forest far outside the outreaches of the human country. Thanks to this, his family was able to avoid humans almost entirely, but their forest was almost constantly plagued by goblin hunting packs, causing their numbers to gradually die down over time. Thus began years of fighting that comprised most of Ridge’s childhood, forcing him to learn how to fight from a young age to survive and defend his family. Eventually, however, they were forced out of their ancestral home and have been migrating closer and closer to the more dangerous human territories.

Weapons: Ridge uses a small knife made out of stone, though it tends to be used better as a blunt trauma tool instead of an actual knife since it doesn’t cut very well. Ridge, as a result, tends to use magic more often for fighting and is most proficient at manipulating nearby plant life to form barriers or lash out like vines.

Other:

Name: Marcellus Wood

Age: 44

Species: Human

Appearance: Marcellus has fairly long, black but graying hair that is  that is usually roped back in a lose ponytail with a thin piece of leather to avoid any possibility of it getting in the way. That being said, a decent number of strands still hang free and his general hairstyle seems to lean more towards “I rolled out of bed at 4am and tried to tie my hair back in the dark before going to work. Which, unsurprisingly, would be accurate. This aside, Marcellus is decently tall and rather well built. He has dark brown eyes and usually wears thick, leather armor with a black wool shirt overtop, making him appear significantly more bulky but still generally protected while roaming the streets, while also not inhibiting his mobility. He wears plain trousers and black leather boots, with a set of matching, fingerless gloves. In the colder months, this outfit is often accompanied by a heavy, red cloak with the hood lined with bear fur, acting as a helpful insulator to keep him warm but not compromise his ability to chase down potential rule breakers.

History: Marcellus Wood is an officer currently serving under the King, reinforcing his laws where it is seen fit. Hailing from a decently wealthy family, he served as a page under one of the many knights who served the king, before becoming a squire after turning 14 years. However, short of serving his seven years as a squire before becoming a knight, he found himself in the midsts of a battle with goblins, during which the knight he served was knocked from his horse. Picking up the discarded lance, Marcellus defended his knight until reinforcements arrived, and was awarded knighthood at the age of 19. Sometime in his later years, Marcellus began directly serving the King, squashing any signs of a potential revolution where they began and becoming less of a knight and more of a watchdog for the King, something he takes immense joy in. It is thought that this started with the execution of several criminals when he was 21. He has become rather notorious around the Kingdom and, as a result, even a mention of him going to a village is enough to silence any upstarts in that area.

Weapons: Marcellus is armed with an arming sword made of iron, which is approximately 38 inches long in overall length with a blade of 32 inches. While simple, it is double edged and easily used both on the ground and from horseback. He is also armed with a plain, medium-sized round shield with a spike on the edge of it, allowing him to use his shield to inflict more damage on potential targets. However, while it is not his primary weapon, Marcellus is also trained in how to use a longbow, and will alter between the two weapons depending upon who or what his quarry is.

Shadow_Claw

Original Name: Lucida

Name: Sissal

Reborn species:Skyfolk

Age prior to death: 16

Appearance: Sissal is fairly short for their kind, standing only at 7 feet. This is because they're still relatively young, and aren't done growing. Their body  is scrawny, and their hands and feet are still somewhat disproportional to their body. They wear clothes like this, with work-worn boots and fingerless gloves. Other than this, they wear glasses. Too young to dye their feathers as a status statement, their frilled feathers are still snow white.

History prior to death: Lucida was the child of a shoemaker, raised in the craft of shoe-making and repair. However, her family was an active member of the revolution, offering food and shelter to refugees as well as sabotaging government officals. To serve as a reminder of the price of disloyalty, Lucida was snatched from her home and executed for the crimes of her family.

History after death: Born and raised in the largest Skyfolk city of Guain, Sissal is an artisan. A master in the art of glasswork and enchanting, their trade is one of the most demanded in the industry. Working with their parents, Sissal plans to inherit their bustling business one day.

Weapons: A Halberd. They also carry a simple work knife.

Other:

Name: Namina Wood

Age: unknown

Species: Changeling

Appearance: here, and here

History: Mina, like other changelings, was raised by another race unlike her own. She discovered her origins at a young age, when she felt intense and uncontrollable discomfort. To be put simply, shedding skin is far from fun. And as a child, she had no idea how to react. Her parents, however, did. She was thrown from her home and out onto the streets. A servant for the king discovered her and, realizing an opportunity, took her into his custody. She had been raised as his personal spy and loyal informant.

Weapons: Anything and everything. And also a crossbow. And a few daggers.

Thanks ^^

I'm already nearly done with my sheet :v I have a question. Beyond what is given to us in the species information, are we allowed to fiddle with concepts and add to them? Or are there additional aspects you want us to adhere to?

Link to post

Nope, you can feel free to expand where you see fit. These are sort of just general guidelines outlining the trends of the species. Especially in the case of Sprites, since they are more of a collection of species and less one species, feel free to add details where you see fit.

I've also added my sheet to the first post.

If nobody wants to join/expresses interest by midnight Friday, we can close those available spots and start the RP.

Yup! They shouldn't have too much a personality change either, although there are likely some small differences here and there due to a change in environment.

Alright, no problem! I'm working on making a character sheet for a villainous character right now since we can use a local, human antagonist.

Hey Narvix, can Thisbe be Namina's? She's an adult, but I would be entirely unsurprised if she often took the form of a child

Other than that, I lined some concepts for Sissal and one of their parents.

Eyy they look great!

I might toss Fable in Sissal's direction but I'm not sure yet what to have him do.

Edit: Changelings can't talk to others when in an animal form, can they?

It's up to you two. I'd say they can talk in any form they're in but I don't have a Changeling character.

Ah, okay. I'm kind of voting for a limited communication ability. But, for sake of easier interactions, having full ability to speak would likely be best. What do you think, Shadow?

EDIT: Alright, both Thisbe and Fable were posted for. Until we figure out the communication ability of Changelings, I'm just going to keep Fable a mute party.
