The Dragon's War

Recommended Posts

Introduction

You find yourself walking out of the Cave, a dragon egg cradled carefully in your arms. You are on your way back home when you hear voices up ahead. You stop to listen, curious.

"...You're sure this is the answer?" you manage to catch from a young male voice. You hear the question come out sounding slightly shaky – almost fearful, even.

"Of course!" answers a gruff bark, this man's voice much older and raspy with age. "The king of Cytrius must be killed, y'hear? The Dragon's War is upon us! Raedyn will come out victorious and I'll be the one to make sure of it if it's the last thing I do!"

The Dragon's War. You've heard of the Dragon's War before; it's the ongoing fued between the kingdoms of Raedyn and Cytrius over control of the main trade routes of Galsreim. The kingdoms have mainly been using dragons to fight in this war – thus it earned the title of "Dragon's War" – and still many humans have died simply from being caught in the middle! You are unable to suppress a shudder just thinking about such brutality. And then you remind yourself that smaller kingdoms have been taking advantage of the war to steal fully-grown dragons trained for fighting straight from the battlefield, then using these dragons to rob and steal from other kingdoms behind their backs.

"This war has been so...barbaric," the younger male replies, almost echoing your thoughts. "Are you sure killing the king will end it? What about the queen? She's not exactly a pacifist; if we kill the king she might just end up leading Cytrius into battle herself!"

"Please! A woman leading a kingdom by herself is impossible, let alone leading an entire army into the midst of war! If we kill the king, Cytrius will be leaderless and Raedyn will finally be in charge of all trade in Galsreim! And you wouldn't want to see anymore dragon blood shed, eh?"

"Of course not..."

"Then it is settled – together we will kill the king and settle this War once and for all!"

"...Right..."

You hear footsteps departing, leaving you alone with your thoughts and the dragon egg in your arms. Can the king of Cytrius really be killed and the Dragon's War ended just like that? You doubt it. Those fools are better off left alone to die from their own stupid plan. But you can't help wondering now...

Who will win the Dragon's War?

Welcome!

This is "The Dragon's War" – an open Dragon Cave roleplay mainly taking place on Galsreim, but there may be a little roleplay in other parts of Valkemare as well. Now, allow me to explain the plot a bit more in depth. Two of Valkemare's largest kingdoms – Raedyn and Cytrius – have gone to war over control of Galsreim's main trade routes and, though it may not have been mentioned in the Introduction, control of a few of the smaller kingdoms surrounding these trade routes. They have been using dragons to fight in this struggle, and many other kingdoms have been stealing wounded dragons straight from battle in order to steal from and take over villages and towns nearby. Many people studying dragons and keeping the information on scrolls – commonly known as "scroll-keepers" – have had their eggs and hatchlings stolen by knights of Raedyn and Cytrius to be trained for battle. After three years of the Dragon's War, your characters must either find a way to survive and – if they are a scroll-keeper – keep their dragons out of the two kingdoms' clutches, or ally themselves with one of the two kingdoms and fight to end this war once and for all. So read the rules, fill out a form, and have fun~

Oh! And every once in a while I will be posting a passage in bold. These are special events going on in the roleplay and they will not end until my next post in bold. Enjoy~

Rules

1. Remember the DC roleplay rules.

2. Ask me before you create a character with some special attributes that you're not sure will be accepted. I'd hate for you to have to redo your whole character because of some silly error!

3. No powerplaying, overpowered characters, dragons with god-like magic, etc. etc.

4. Don't let your mood outside of the roleplay effect your characters in "The Dragon's War"! This happens more often than you might think, and at times like these you've got to remember: your characters aren't you! You may base your characters off of you a little bit, but ultimately they have no idea of modern times or anything that is going on in your life!

5. If you have a request for some special event or something special happening to your character in the roleplay, pm me! I won't guarantee that your request will be accepted, but I promise that I will take a look at it whenever I get the chance and give it deep consideration. Promise!

6. Be considerate to your fellow roleplayers! I know you probably hear this a lot in roleplays and online games, but I think that it cannot be stressed enough. Different people will take things different ways – you never know what kind of person might be sitting behind the screen! Make sure that whatever you say OOC is something kind so we can keep this roleplay fun and friendly!

7. There is a character limit of 5 characters per roleplayer. No more than this is allowed, and remeber that we need characters in Raedyn and Cytrius as well as characters outside of the kingdoms. Also, about the scroll-keepers: you must include a link your scroll if you wish to create a scroll-keeper; it is reccomended that this be your first character. This will also allow you to play around with your dragons a bit, but roleplay will still remain in the point of view of the character you created a form for. There may only be one scroll-keeper character per person unless they have two or, in some cases, three characters that share ownership of the same scroll. If you want to create a scroll-keeper that shares a scroll with a character owned by someone else, then this is allowed as long as you have the other roleplayer's permission; in this case, please put the name of the character they share it with beside the scroll link (in parentheses of course).Thank you~

NAME: Princess Amina Netari

AGE: 18

GENDER: Female

ROLE: Princess of Cytrius

OCCUPATION: Amina spends most of her time helping her mother with the kingdom, training for the day she might rule it alone.

APPEARANCE: Dark blonde hair and brown eyes; average frame- not skinny but far from overweight; most commonly see wearing dresses of her favorite color (pink). Though she is a princess, she doesn't wear her tiara as commonly as most, as it bothers her head and inhibits her athletic abilities. 5'5."

PERSONALITY: A naive princess, she forms deeply trusting relationships rather easily. Instead of relying on her own intelligence, she tends to allow others to make her decisions, and she will eagerly follow them. She is typically kind, but will strike out if necessary.

OTHER: Totally in love with Tarik, the Prince of Raedyn and involved in a terrible and secret affair. She has a very loving relationship with her mother, as her only daughter and closest living relative. She knows her affair is threatening to the kingdom what with the war and everything, but she can't give it up. Let the kingdoms fall, love is love.

ALLIANCE: Cytrius, as her Princess.

HISTORY: She seems to recall another time or place where all was well. Once, her family was larger. Once, her family was at peace. In another life, she remembers sitting around a fireplace with her mother, her father, and her sister -- a girl one year younger than her in age. But no, the memory is so far off, it couldn't be more than a dream. Her sister was slain years ago by an assassin from Raedyn, at just 12 years old. Her father was recently murdered as well. War is raging and those she loves falling. What is left? Her mother. They are all each other has. Well, for Amina anyway. Her mother loves the kingdom just as much; she has something to fight for. Amina is less versed in the ways of politics and wars and the like. She doesn't so much follow the details of the war other than the fact that it scares her. But seeking security and comfort in times of trial has only put her in a more precarious place: in love with the enemy. Not the enemy really, the enemy's son. Doesn't that make it better? It's not Tarik that's killing her family and her lands... it's his parents, his kingdom. It's... everything he knows. But Tarik loves her, and she him. Can't their love transcend the war? Or will it die alongside their dragons and their warriors? Who knows? But until that day, when all becomes clear, they will continue to meet in secret, and to hope love proves stronger than war.

NAME: Prince Tarik Monroe

AGE: 21

GENDER: Male

ROLE: Prince of Raedyn

OCCUPATION: In command of selecting and appointing people to different commissions within the army, and in charge of strategizing warfare in some less important areas while his father and mother do the bulk of the work elsewhere.

APPEARANCE: Tall, 6'2", slim and muscular. Short blonde hair, hazel eyes. Typically dressed in grey. Has a long stride and captivating eyes.

PERSONALITY: Concerned with the welfare of what matters to him, cares about what's right and best. Often overthinks and worries too much about things. Wants to live up to his father's expectations, but feels like he never can. Wants to be the best ruler Raedyn's ever seen.

OTHER: Bitterly conflicted between his kingdom and his lover. He truly loves Amina, but how can he risk the fate of his country? He will love her like she deserves, but if it were to ever come down between the two...

ALLIANCE: Raedyn, as her Prince. Also feels a duty to protect Amina.

HISTORY: His parents had trouble conceiving, but after several miscarriages, miraculously he was born a healthy and happy child. Raedyn thrived and life was good until somewhere along the way disaster struck and war broke out. His father, an angrily brutal and vicious man, is consumed with the war and thinks of nothing else, not even his family, not even his only son. His mother on the other hand is a kind and generous woman. Her voice has been greatly diminished by her husband, yet she still manages to fight for her kingdom as she believes she must do. Tarik is left somewhere in the middle, trying to find his place and wrestle with what path he truly belongs on: as the King he was born to be or the man Amina needs from him.

any way you could post character sheets for your charries? It'd help to know what the characters are like tongue.gif

Maybe you shouldn't take up the Prince/Princess slot for both kingdoms – someone else might like to have one, you know! If you can decide on which one to exchange/get rid of, I'll accept you character(s) Drakita! As for mine, don't worry, I'm working on them! It's just taking a little longer than I thought. ^v^

That makes sense. I'll keep Amina and let someone else have Tarik. Can we keep them in love though? I think it adds something to the story.

I've been thinking a little bit. Maybe, instead of getting rid of Tarik, you could give him another Role, such as a Knight of Raedyn instead of the Prince -- that will allow you to keep Tarik and keep them in love without taking any of the limited Roles. How's that sound?

((I apologize in advance for my characters' histories being a bit lengthy, but these are shortened versions of what I'd like to write; I could write short stories taking up at least three or four pages for most of their histories if I wanted to, I'm sure!))

Name: Sylvia "Silver" Mistere

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Role: Scroll-keeper

Occupation(Citizen Only): N/A

Alliance: None

Appearance: Sliver is an albino; her hair is slightly wavy, and isn't completely white as it has traces of a very pale silver in it and she never allows it to grow much further than her shoulder blades; pale skin that almost looks snowy-white; and ruby-red eyes with a red-violet ring around the edges and thin stripes of icy-blue coming outward from her red iris. Unlike the vast majority of women of her time, you will rarely catch Silver in a dress – her preferred attire is a long-sleeved top with (usually pale green), a light, emerald-green cloak, men's leggings, brown leather boots, and padded gloves.

Personality: Silver is a bit of oddball; she tries to "perfect" herself and tends to mess with her hair and clothing a bit – mostly just doing little things like straightening her clothing up, fiddling with her scarf, and making sure her hood is pulled down to its extent; she acts like more of a man than a woman, and prefers to do things on her own, not giving up until the task proves itself impossible for her. Due to tales her mother had shared with her about her birthplace as a child, Silver views people as accusing, ruthless and mean – when she pictures them on her own, all she sees is a dark shadow with beady red eyes and a torch held high about its head. This assuming part of her makes her extremely anxious and paranoid when shopping for supplies in a marketplace, and she tries her hardest to blend in with the crowd. The only place where Silver really feels very confident and safe is around her dragons, where her truly stubborn, caring, selfless nature shows. She is a bit of a self-loather though, caused by past trauma.

Other: Silver suffers from Nystagmus and has a visual acuity that makes her sensitive to bright lights (her hood helps with her light sensitivity though). Silver also gets very easily sunburned, which is why she wears so much clothing.

Short History: Silver was born unto a couple who lived in a small, peaceful village. Her mother, Aria Mistere, was a bit offset by her appearance, but quickly came around to loving her child deeply. Her father Estille, however, was appalled. Feeling confused and angry by Silver's albinism, he accused his wife, – the beautiful woman whom he had loved for many years – of being a witch and seeing another man behind his back, hurting both Aria and himself in the process. Quickly Aria fled her husband and the group of village men he had convinced of her betrayal, taking the baby with her. Aria raised Silver the first few years by herself, picking a home in the mountains for her daughter who seemed to burn easily in the sunlight. Silver was about fourteen when her mother passed, and by then she had acquired a tolerance of heat and able to travel to any of the six regions where dragons lived. The next dragon she raised – a Spirit Ward dragon – she named Aria Glowe, in honor of her dearly departed mother.

~~~~~
Name: Sarra Netari
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Role: Queen of Cytrius
Occupation(Citizen Only):
Alliance: Cytrius
Appearance: Sarra has a fair complexion, and for the most part looks as though she has just entered her twenties. Though her fair skin, lightly tanned by the sun, is quite smooth and her eyes are still a bright, youthful blue, her lengthy spruce-brown hair has begun to gray with age at the roots. You will often find that Sarra wears nothing but the finest clothing, the best jewlery, and even a bit of makeup (even though there isn't all that much makeup in this period). Sarra's favorite attire is an white ball gown, steel bracers lined with gold, a pearl necklace, the late king's golden crown, and black turnshoes. She also has a secret Cassare dragon bone necklace that she wears under her clothes for protection from magic.
Personality: Sarra is ambitious, greedy, deceitful, and cruel. Her ruthless battle tactics and her malice are so well-known throughout much of Valkemare, there is a rumor among other kingdoms that she is truly a demon hiding beneath human skin. However, she does show a bit of patience and tries to keep a calm, caring air about her when she's in town so she doesn't lose the loyalty of her subjects. Over all, Sarra is a conniving dictator keeping her subjects oblivious to her true nature – she is a wolf in sheep's clothing, guiding the flock to their doom.
Other: None
Short History: WIP
~~~~~

Name: Johnathan Lycanthe

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Role: Knight

Occupation(Citizen Only): N/A

Alliance: Raedyn

Appearance: Johnathan is a skinny, muscular fellow, with wily dirty-blond curls. His eyes are a dark brown with a tiny hazel ring around the pupil. Outside of his armor, Johnathan mostly wears a black tunic and darkly-colored leggings.

Personality: Johnathan is very optimistic and social. A well-known friend to almost all of his kingdom, Johnathan uses his optimism to help others that are having a rough day feel better about themselves, to excite fellow soldiers to strike swift and hard and to give all they've got into a battle, and most of all to cheer up his little sister, Aradia. Johnathan is very loyal to his kingdom, just as his father was, and being an ambitious young man he wants to honor his father's legacy by becoming a Royal Guard someday.

Other: Johnathan is the elder brother of Aradia Lycanthe.

Short History: WIP

~~~~~
Name: Aradia Lycanthe
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Role: Citizen
Occupation(Citizen Only): Servant for hire
Alliance: Raedyn
Appearance: Aradia has short, slightly curled black hair and brown eyes so dark they look somewhat black. Her skin is very pale, as she stays inside often, but she has tan freckles scattered about her face and even a few on her shoulders! Often Aradia wears a simple green dress and simple calfskin shoes.
Personality: Aradia is quiet, shy, and submissive around most people, but she is quite protective of her brother and hates that he decided to become a knight. She has strong ideas and moral values, but often is too nervous to voice them. She is more of a follower than a leader, and most of the time will follow whatever directions given to her exactly.
Other: Aradia is the younger sister of Sir Johnathan Lycanthe.
(I could potentially take Tarik off your hands, if you want c: )
Name: Nicholas Rimanic
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Role: Traveler
Alliance: None/Nomad
Occupation(Citizen Only): Mana Seller
Appearance: Nico is somewhat tall, standing at 5' 8" from top to bottom. He is relatively fit-looking, with toned limbs, long legs and broad shoulders. His jawline is defined and rather sharp, and his nose has a slight bump to it, as if it had been broken before. He has a fair skin tone and brown-hazel eyes with a starburst pattern. He has brown, slightly wavy hair that stops at his earlobe in the back. His hands are rough and calloused from his job. He often wears comfortable clothing that's easy to climb in and to work in extreme -often tight- conditions. He also wears thick boots and carries a large pack on his back wherever he goes, containing everything he needs to work and survive.
Personality: For someone who's not a noble, Nico tries his hardest to be polite. Unfortunately, he can unintentionally sound insincere when he speaks. While mana-harvesting is often a solitary job, it also allows for contact with many different kinds of people, so it's not too easy to actually frighten him with a freaky sight. Nico is rather friendly, if not a little awkward, and often means well in his intentions. He can be a bit competitive, to be truthful, and is a tad too stubborn for his own good. He's a decent bargainer, and it's hard for him to purchase something without haggling the price. He hates to lie, but he is rather good at being convincing.
Other: His companion is a Magi dragon, suitable for assisting him in the mana harvest. He doesn't necessarily own him, per say. It's a possibility for him to actually start a scroll in the future, but he has his priorities.
Short History: The mana trade isn't for the light-hearted, as many dangers loom; the crystals exploding, bandits lying in wait, attacking Magi dragons who claimed the territory, running into a Cassare that drains the mana, and so on. Nico is the second son of a mana-seller and a baker. The family traveled around Galsreim, the two boys growing up without a set home. Setting up and taking down tents eventually became like second instinct. When he was about thirteen, he began to work with his father in the harvest itself. Unfortunately, his dear father died in a mana accident three years later. The two brothers had to find a way to earn money. Christopher, the older brother, refused to keep on collecting mana; his true passion was raising dragons and recording the progress on scrolls. After a heated argument, Chris left to follow his dreams, setting the burden on Nico.
Recently, his mother fell seriously ill, and Nico continued to carry on his father's work. Being unable to give her the attention she needed, he brought her to Chris so she could get better care while he worked for the money for her treatment. The war turned out to be rather profitable, with both sides looking for power sources. Even so, few people want to risk handling the votile substance.
Scroll Link(Scroll-keepers only): He's not exactly a dragon owner (yet).
Nice nice, i think ill hop on here if at all possible!
Name: Ferris Wolfram
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Role: basically a merchant who has a nasty habit of smuggling and selling dangerous dragons and weaponds along with tools to each of side of the kingdoms
Alliance: whichever one pays him the most (none/neutral)
Occupation(Citizen Only): Merchant/Dealer
Appearance: Ferris is a largely heavy set and built man. He is roughtly 6"5' with a dark skin tone and farily broad shoulders with large upper body strength. He carries a massive traveling bag with all of his goods. His hair is shaved down to a dark brown stubble and his clothing consists of covering as much skin as possible. That being said, he often wears a scruffy darken hood and some kind of face mask coving his mouth. He also will normal wear long sleeve loose fitting shirts and jackets with fingerless gloves. Along with that wares long loose pants and talls boots. Generally, good clothing for marching between kingdom to kingdom.
Personality: Why, he is as sly as can be and a silver tongued serpent. All in all, he could roughly be described as a "jack of all trades, and a master of none." He seems to know a lot more then he leads onto, especially when it comes to dragons and strange beasts. With that, he'd be fine with rating anyone out as long as you can pay just the right price.
Other: He sells almost everything under the sun. Travles anywhere but only ever alone.
Short History: W.I.P
Scroll Link(Scroll-keepers only): He more of smuggles the eggs and hatchis if anything.....
@Esko_the_wolf Sure if you want Tarik, I'll happily gift him to you! Please follow the character outline I wrote out for him though, as I would love for him to be true to his character.
As for me, I came up with a replacement second character for me that I can roleplay in addition to Amina instead of Tarik.
Name: Amar Rochester
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Role: Royal Mage of Raedyn
Appearance: Shaggy brunette hair with strands of platinum blonde, rich brown eyes, and a young face. Athletic and enthusiastically so, most commonly seen in a yellow mage's robe.
Personality: A bit obsessed with his magery and such, he rarely casts much an interest for anything else. Most of the residents of the Palace of Raedyn stay out of his way, and while the respect him for his talents, they do not want to involve themselves with him or his arts. Amar is somewhat aware of this, but is much too preoccupied to really take notice and/or care. The royal family find his zeal for Raedyn and for his position endearing, and are grateful to have his powers on their side. He doesn't want to hurt people or dragons, as he sees all creatures as a mystic creation, but often that is a side effect of his magic, especially when used in war, a fact which he overlooks. In the Dragon's War, however, he uses his magery for Raedyn as much as possible, without worry of the fallout, for Raedyn is far superior to Cytrius.
Alliance: Raedyn
History: Amar was first introduced to magic as a child. Never meeting his parents, he was found in the woods as an infant and raised by Aeon dragons who taught him the mysticism of mana and all it's secrets. He grew up fascinated by such things, and eagerly practiced magic at ever available opportunity. One day as a teenager, his Aeon family strayed too close to the kingdom of Cytrius during a hunting party. The dragons, threatened by the presence of humans and their weapons, fought to defend themselves. Most of the party was slain or fled, but one of Amar's family was killed in the process. Amar grew to hate the people of Cytrius, and sought out their enemy, Raedyn. At the age of 20, he joined their ranks as an apprentice mage. His skills astonished the royals if Raedyn, and they wondered how such a young man could have mastered such arts so thoroughly. Since then, he was quickly promoted and is now revered as one of the most prominent mages Raedyn has ever seen. His Aeon family lives on, highly protected in a sector of Raedyn, and he frequently visits them to this day. After all, family is family.
Other: Due to his affinity for dragons, Amar loves any and all scrollkeepers and thinks their work is just fantastic. He is typically less kindly to the other mages however, as he finds their magic imitation of the dragons and imitation of his own. Amar feels he is relatable to an honorary dragon himself, considering his history with them. He is however receptive to young beginning mages, as they remind him of his own fascination with magic as a kid.
BTW I would love for Amar to have an apprentice mage if anyone wants to create one!
Other: suffers from memory loss and is trying to find his past, but the only lead he haves was looking for a group of mercenaries in one of the kingdom, but he does not know which one.
Alliance: Arm for Hires
Short History: He haves no memories passed the last 5 years, when he woke up in a burning down building. Amina loved mornings. As a Princess she had no particular schedule and could wake when she was well-slept. That said, she never slept excessively -- there was a day to be lived! But the real reason she loved mornings, more so than anything else, was that it gave her another chance to see the love of her life, Tarik. This morning she yawned, staring at the warm sunlight that streamed through her window with a smile. Her thoughts were consumed with him: what was he doing right now? Was he thinking of her? Would he come visit soon? She hoped so. The mere thought brought a smile to her face.
Lackadaisically, she got out of bed. Curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to go see what the daily events were, if there was any exciting news to hear or any fun activity to partake in. Maybe her mother would need her? She did as much as she could to help her mother, when she wasn't sneaking out to meet with Tarik, of course. Amina wandered down the stairs from her bedroom and went to the Grand Hall. She was still in her pale peach nightgown, yes, but who really minded? It made her look pretty and youthful, and certainly no one was going to question the princess! She wandered, searching for her mother, to see if she had any duties to fulfill before she could sit down and right a lengthy letter to her lover.
In what seemed to be another world, in another time and another place, the castle of Raedyn was buzzing. Soldiers brought news form the battle fronts and scribes were recording what would one day be history. Royals gave orders and servants rushed about to complete them. Amar, however, barely took notice of the commotion. He'd been up all night, practicing his magery in his tower in the Hall of Spells. He'd been perfecting a bioweapon, derived from the infected flesh of neglected dragons. It took a lot of work to ascertain what exactly it was that made the dragon's body to decay into such a horror based of nothing but lack of attention. It's source had to be some sort of mana, and after 18 hours of raw study, he believed he'd found it. It had to be tested, of course, but after further trials, it just may turn the tide of the Dragon's War.
He dripped a droplet of neglected blood into a vial of a blue liquid comprised of the rare years of Celestial dragons. The combination was sure to be deadly on some level, but it was yet to be seen whether or not it reacted the way he wanted it to. The vial bubbled red and then settled into some shade of purple. "Ha ha!" Amar said triumphantly. "I have you at last."
Experiments like these took the Royals' approval. To test it on a dragon, he'd need permission. He relunctantly left the Hall of Spells to seek the King or Queen, or even the prince. Raedyn had captured dragons as POWs, but most of them were reeducated and reintroduced into the war to fight again, this time for Raedyn. He only needed to borrow one... Tests like these were far more important. The Royals knew that of course. He just had to locate them in the midst of the palace strewn by the chaos of war.
(Mind if Nico runs into Silver like this? Also, sorry if my posts look short; I'm posting on my phone and paragraphs look larger than they are.
I'll add Tarik's part soon.)
It was always cold up in the mountains, especially when one was tired and sweaty after a long night of work. Nico hadn't intended to work all night, but he had gotten lost and couldn't find Xerick for several hours. He still had to scale the rock face to get to an area where he could set up camp and get some rest. Breathing hard and bundled up in layers, he hefted his bag up. He could see the Magi's head poking over the side, staring at him with amusement. "Having fun?"
"Having a blast." He yelled, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I could use a lift."
"I'm not a pet of yours. I am your partner, but I am not obligated to give you a ride." His monotone telepathic "voice" seemed to ring from above.
"Things would go quicker if you used those wings of yours and flew me up."
"I enjoy watching humans solve their own problems. Besides, you need to stay in shape." A soft chuckle sounded from his throat; though it sounded much like a toad to him.
"I already do that enough." He muttered through gritted teeth, then clenched his jaw and focused on climbing. He was nearly there. Hopefully, if Xerick was sitting up there, it would be enough to set up a tent. Otherwise, he would almost certainly be voicing how unsuitable it was and taunting him to climb further. He was unhelpful sometimes, but not that much of a prick.
Suddenly, he heard something crack. That doesn't sound right. He tried to look for the source; it sounded really close. He realized how close it was when rock broke under his climbing hooks. He didn't think anything for a second before he started to fall. Instinctively he let out a shout as his body was dragged down to the ground. The wind screamed past his ears, and for a few moments he thought he was done for. Xerick would not swallow his pride and he would keep plummeting, down and down, until his body hit the rocks and he was no more. Luckily, he saw orange wings flare open and the dragon dive down below him. He thrust his wings open again and Nico fell into his back. Gasping for breath, his heart raced as the Magi flew up to the flat area he was sittin on moments before.
Stumbling down, Nico glanced at his partner through the goggles that he fashioned himself. "Wasn't so hard carrying me, was it?" He snarked at him. Xerick rolled his eyes and snorted; he was one of the few people Nico sassed. "Oh, and thanks. For saving me." However, something else had caught the dragon's attention, and the young man turned his head to see.
"It's some sort of settlement." Xerick stated, and it looked to be true. "Not made for many people at once."
"Cool. They might offer hospitality. That'd be nice." He didn't stay in another's home often, but when he did, it was warm and the people were welcoming. It was a good break from tents and such. If he were lucky, there'd be a hot meal along with a stay. "Let's just hope that they're not put off by freshly harvested mana being in their home." With that, the two approached the small settlement, the two caked in snow and Nico's face covered by a protective mask...
((I don't mind at all, Esko! I'll go ahead and start with my sweet, strange, lonely Silver, and then Nico can stop by~))
Silver woke in the morning to birdsong -- no, to Ariasong -- and was unable to stifle a tired groan. Her muscles screamed with aching pains from battle training with Nisprit, and she longed to just roll over and return to her dreams, but she knew that her friends wouldn't wait for her forever. Tossing aside her blanket, Silver slipped out of bed and pulled on her usual outfit: her pale green tunic, her black leggings, her emerald cloak, and her gloves and boots. She quickly flipped up her cloak's hood and straightened it a bit before stepping outside.
The oak door to her cottage banged behind her, but Silver was used to it by now and took no notice of it. She pulled her cloak tightly around her as a frosty gust of wind blew past; the gray clouds overhead threatened snow, as they always seemed to do. Silver glanced around quickly for Mynsiel -- he had to be nearby, since it was his song that had roused her from sleep. It was easy to spot the Aria's bright pink scales pressed against the side of her cottage as Mynsiel huddled up in a tight ball for his own warmth amid the mountain snow. Silver stepped toward him.
"Myn, what in Valkemare are you doing up here?!" she prompted. "You know very well that Tarrow, or Amon, or Nior are capable of coming here and waking me up themselves! You're used to the jungle, not the snow -- what, is Saer going to come up here next?" Mynsiel shivered against the cottage wall, and raised his head slowly, his eyes narrowed in annoyance.
"Well, I'm sorry for Tarrow and Amon being to busy playing games to care, and for Nior being in such a deep sleep!" he huffed telepathically. "I just thought someone needed to get you up if no one else would!" He paused and sighed mentally. "Gods, some humans can be frustrating!"
Silver knelt down, ignoring the sharp sting of the cold snow on her knees. "Listen, Myn," she began, sounding much calmer than before, "I'm not trying to be mean, and I'm not accusing you of anything wrong -- I'm just scared that you'll end up freezing your wings off if your up here much longer!" She stood and smiled at him. "Now come on; we need to get back to the others!"
---As Silver was leaving her cottage...---
With some of his remaining energy, Nico dragged his legs towards the little cottage. He dearly hoped there would be an actual bed for him to sleep in, to be able to slip out of his boots and under actual quilts. Even if there wasn't actual food, he looked foward to being able to have something to eat; he was horribly starving. He cast a glance towards Xerick, his frills up in alert. "Is there something around here?"
"Yes." His reply was quiet. "I feel dragons around here. It may be a small tribe. We must be cautious." One dragon, depending on its size, could be enough for Xerick to defend against. But a tribe, however small, was much more difficult to fight off. And Nico's weapons weren't that of knight-quality; rather pathetic, actually.
As they approached, Nico heard the morning noises of dragons all around. He could especially recognize an Aria's song, very smooth but prominent and loud at the same time. Other calls competed for earspace, but he didn't know most of them. Chris could. He would be able to pinpoint exactly what call it was. Now's not the time to think about your brother. He grimaced behind his mask, and then finally he was at the door.
Here goes. He sighed, sending a puff of breath-cloud through the breathholes and into the air. Raising a gloved hand, he knocked on the door thrice and waited. After a while, there was still no response. He tried again, yielding no different result. Swearing softly, he opened the door. "Don't." The hiss rang in Nico's head, but he ignored it and stepped inside. Looking around, he called to see if anyone would come out. Nothing.
"Nobody's home." He yelled to Xerick, who was lying down by a jutting rock. "The candles are burning real low; it might have been recently abandoned." With the dragons that Xerick felt, they might have made a run for it.
Keeping his gear on, he looked through the cottage to see if anybody was hiding. Nothing. He walked out and closed the door behind him, jumping at the loud slam! "Did it ever occur to you," Xerick started, "that the person is not home?"
"Would all the candles be burning that low?"
"It's a cottage in the mountains!" The Magi spat. "Now I suppose you have a brilliant idea?"
"Well, I have an idea. We hide and see if anyone comes home soon. If they do, we walk up after they go inside and knock on the door."
Xerick sighed in a worried manner. "I suppose that works." The two of them snuck behind a large rock and waited, staying out of sight.
---
When he first opened his eyes, his body refused to get up and out of bed. After a lot of groaning and thinking, he finally rolled himself out. His bare feet touched the floor, a floor that many peasants would die to step on. It felt cold on his skin, and he shivered, walking out of the room to find something to eat. Even his pajamas were extravagant, and there wasn't much problem in him walking out in them. A lot of servants would not judge him.
Even through morning hunger and grogginess, Amina entered his thoughts instantly. Sweet, beautiful, wonderful Amina. How was she faring with the recent death of her father? He began to worry. Was she doing alright? He hoped to meet her at their usual spot that night, if nothing got in his way...
"Tarik!" Amar exclaimed upon sighting the young prince. "There you are. Good heavens, I've been looking all over for you. I've had a breakthrough concerning a new weapon for the Dragon's War. I think it to be a breakthrough, anyway. It's certainly a start, even if it's only in trial phases, and will take time, and energy, and expense before it's complete... But more importantly, Your Highness, I need your help. The Royal Dungeons can only be accessed by, well, royals, so I need you to accompany me there so I can test this out. This is alright by you, correct? Oh joy, this is quite a day! Quite a day indeed!"
Amina was growing more frustrated by the minute. It had been a quarter of an hour and her mother was still nowhere to be seen. Obviously she should be looking for her! She always checked in with her mother in the mornings before doing anything else; it was routine! For her mother not to show was more than a little irritating. Sighing, she sat down against the wall of the Grand Hall. 5 more minutes, that was all she would wait. 5 more minutes and then she'd just have to make other plans and accept the fact that her mother clearly didn't want to see her.
It was not so bad a thing, she thought. She was due to meet Tarik tonight. They alternated meeting in Raedyn and Cytrius, so neither of them had to be the one always trespassing in the other's country. Tonight's meeting place was in Raedyn, and it would take time to get there. If she left early, maybe she could meet him early and they could spend even more time together. A fabulous idea, she decided.
Had it been 5 minutes yet? She quickly lost track of time. Let's just say 2 more minutes. 60 seconds twice, I can do that. She closed her eyes, and counted.
