How many eggs do you pick up of a new breed?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying and failing to get even one of the new Volcano dragons ever since they came out and the biome still has a ton of people stalking it. Do people rush to get more than 7 of new releases or do they give others a chance?

Keep in mind that this release has been kind of weird. The flood was super short, both breeds dropped very sparsely for a while, and there was a lot of viewbombing to kill eggs. Some people might still not have any. The number of people in the Volcano has been dropping significantly. When I was hunting earlier it was like 30-40ish when yesterday at the same time there was still 60+. Fire Gems are getting easier to catch.

Personally, I get however many I want. It really depends on the dragon. I always get 2 of each (female and male, all colors if applicable) even if I dislike the breed. If I like the breed I might go for 2-4 pairs. And if I really love the breed? Who knows! I'll grab until I get bored of it.

I usually try to grab 2-3 of each type, but then as for others, it depends on the dragon, I may grab more if I like it. For example this time I've been focusing more on Tetras since A. they were and still are easier to get, B. they don't have subtypes and C. they're blue! The best argument for me, hands down.

I usually try to get 2 per gender and breed initially. That means 4 Tetras and 12 Fire Gems for me. Afterwards, I go back to breeding etc.

I try to grab at least a pair of each breed/variety at the initial drop. If I still have room (in smaller releases), I fill up on whichever one seems to be more in demand, in case it becomes difficult to get later. Then I typically wait to see adults before grabbing more.

My scroll goal is eight per breed/colour for things like the firegems (four of each gender) so I have enough to breed a few gens into a lineage if I need to in the future. I don't always try and grab them all immediately though, it depends on how they seem to be dropping/trading and how much I like them and what else I'm working on at the time.

My scroll goal is to have five (m and f adults, m and f hatchlings, ungrendered) of each non-special breed and Halloweens, three of each Holiday, Valentines, and unbreedables. Only one that is different is guardian of nature since you can only have three per scroll. I need to decide whether to freeze an ungendered hatchling or have only one male or female hatchling. I of course have multiple BSA dragons, planning to have 10 or 12 of each at the moment.

With this in mind, I always make sure I grab two of each new breed/color and make sure they become a male and female couple which I will then breed to make the frozen hatchlings.

Bare minimum, two CB pairs. Sometimes only one if I really don't care for them. (I'll dump extras.) If I like them well enough, I'll get 4 CB pairs. If I LOVE them, I'll get more (usually well after the release) and work on lineages with them. This release? I now have two CB pairs each color of Fire Gems, and of the Tetras. I like the Tetras better, but only nominally, so no more grabbing of any for me (unless I grab to give away) and only breeding them if somebody needs a 2nd gen.

My goals are 10 of each regular release breed (and each variant), 5 males and 5 females. I've only recently been able to catch the Fire Gems myself so I still have a way to go with them as I'll need 30 in total.

I don't like these enough to hoard them but if I see low time eggs on the ap I might pick them up, especially if I don't have a lot of that breed.

If it is a one-bred release I usually try to catch 4 eggs (two pairs) at the beginning and then a third pair if I like the adults.

If there are more dragons released together I start with a CB pair of each, and then try to catch more until I lock myself. Scroll goal is two cb pairs.

I try collect every gender of a colour from the breed. So in this case 6 fire gems and 2 tetras.

I don't really freeze and I collect more cbs of those I like.. And atm it's none biggrin.gif

But fire gems are easier to catch now than during the release. I often saw 90+ hunters in volcano compared to 20+ now. I do hunt in the night cave time so most players are sleeping. I usually try to be at the first wave of releases so I can be sure to catch also those rarer ones. Usually it helps as releases start at midnight cave time which is morning my time and I "do" internet mostly in the mornings biggrin.gif

In a normal release I aim to get 2 CB pairs (even numbers of each gender for checker planning). If I really like a breed, I double that with the second batch of eggs, though sometimes only for one gender (i.e. total of 4 male, 2 female). Multibreed and multicolor releases throw that off, as after the first batch hatches I'll pick up more only of the ones I already have a plan for, and leave the other colors/breeds till a later time.

If I really really like something I'll keep gathering one or both genders until I can make at least 5th gen checkers with them, which takes 8 base pairs. But that's always a gradual thing, not a marathon hoarding episode.

4 of each gender. Which means I still need rather a lot of gems, as by my goals, each colour needs a set....

I try to get at least 2 of each gender initially, but ultimately want to have at least 4 CB per gender, so 8 CB per species.

My goal is to collect 5 pairs of each CB breed/color ~ so 10 Tetras and 30 Fire Gems ninja.gif + every stage of hatchy for freezing but those can be messy not CB happy.gif

With me, it depends on whether I like them or not. For example, while I like the Tetras and FireGems, they're not really ones I am overly fond of, so I just grabbed a pair of each. However, ones that I REALLY like, such as the Spirit Wards, I grabbed as many as I could.

Greedy thing that I am: 12 pairs of each. I can do the bulk of any lineage projects then, with some help from trading if I want it to be a longer project. I don't get them all in the beginning though.

Depends on the release. If I like the new dragon, than as many as I can. If not then a couple for lineage/completion purposes. I NEED more fire gems, but the tetras I don't care about as much.

My scroll goals work like this:

Breeds I absolutely hate: 2M/2F, Breeds I dislike: 4M/4F, Breeds I don't particularly care about:

5M/5F, Normal breeds: 10M/10M, Breeds I like or love: 20M/20F, BSAs that I frequently use: 30-40M/30-40F

During the initial release I try to get at least 5 pairs and build on my scroll goals later. I need to see adults to make up my mind for further collection. As a rule, I collect all breeds irrespective of if I like them. I try to collect breeds during release or in initial weeks after release because I have had bad experience with coppers, which tooks years to complete my goal of 10/10 and only finished recently, plus I tend to lose interest in common breeds quickly, which most new release are, so initial frenzy gives me enough motivation to collect them.

Wow, a lot more people collected more than 7 than I thought.

Now I'm wondering if an egg limit for the first couple of weeks of a new release would help more people catch them.

Releases are permanent, no need to complicate things by putting an unnecessary limit on newly released dragons.

People catching a lot of new eggs are doing the same work you are, they're just getting luckier. They're allowed to collect a lot of dragons. If they weren't, we'd have limits on how many of each breed you can collect. But we don't because DC is a free-for-all, where everything is available (even if some things are breed-only), and it's up to you to catch what you want or trade for what you want.

Plus, I can name about half a dozen users just off the top of my head who offered to catch new release eggs for users having issues getting one. And traffic has really slowed down, so catching should be easier now, in any case.

I usually like to go for around 20 or so in total, unless I am really just not a fan of the sprite - then I only get about 4. I like to do this around the release before too much time has passed, otherwise I'll forget and go back to focusing on collecting beautiful AP lineages.

Well, truth be told, I collected more than several of the new breed. However, I gave a lot of them to people who were struggling just to collect even one. There's no telling how many I actually caught but now I'm fixated on starting my lineage project.

For single breed releases, I usually get three males/three females/ one extra. For multiple breed releases/color variations, I get one male and one female of each and then however many extras I can fit. If I decide I like a breed, I'll collect as many as possible before the next release. Otherwise I just settle with my initial seven new dragons.
