Improving Group Management

Recommended Posts

First of all, thank you TJ for implementing this! It's an awesome thing for sure!

However, there are still some minor kinks to work out.

For example, I'd love to be able to add multiple breeds to a single group - with each dragon in them. (I want to create groups like "Pygmies", "Two-Headeds", "Drakes", "Valentines", "Xmases" and "Halloweens", so you get where this idea is coming from.)

Right now, I can start by adding one whole breed to a group - but after that, I have to add each single dragon to that group that still needs to be in there. In the case of Halloweens, that's already a major headache, not to mention the special breeding groups.

Ideally, when "editing" a group, you get the same dragon adding feature at the bottom that you get when creating a group. Alternately or additionally, being able to select multiple dragons from that list by holding CTRL would also greatly improve our grouping experience.

For a similar purpose, working with groups (especially merging them) would be a very useful feature, too. (For example: You're working on a 10th gen even gen dragon, you already have two 9nth gens to breed with. With the "Lineage" option for adding a whole lineage to a group, you can easily create a group for the whole family of each 9th gen - but it'll take you adding roughly 511 extra dragons one by one to the family group of the female 9th gen to get her mate's family into the same group.

This. Alll of this. I agree with it.

And on a different note, thank you TJ for giving us the ability to sort our dragons! This will be so useful!

Edit: Also a way to change the order of your groups would be nice as well.

Because right now I'm just creating Breed groups, but I would like to rearrange things by Alphabet or completed vs not-completed eventually.

Maybe being able to view your groups in some kind of desktop style would be helpful here? Having a drop-down menu with 100+ groups might turn out to be slightly overwhelming. Plus scrolling could turn out to be an issue.

I've already stated in the News thread that I don't understand why we *can't* pick multiple dragons in the "edit group" page. Once I make a group and put one breed in there, I have to do it manually to all the other dragons I want in that group. The "edit group" page should have the same list of dragons the "create group" page does. I honestly don't get why this isn't the case.

Agree with this.

Also would like the ability to remove dragons from the "main" group. Right now, I STILL have to do some basic sorting simply because otherwise..... my 8k dragons will quickly form a major mess, and I've got no way to remove them from the 8k dragon grouping....

Cheers!

C4.

Yes please to this and to Shokomon's idea of being able to sort group order smile.gif

I'm super stoked that we have groups now, but some tweaking would make them 1000% more user friendly. Hopefully changes like this can be added along with the custom sort feature when it comes ^^

Yes, absolutely this! We need a checklist of sorts. I only have 2kish dragons and it's going to be a pain to go through them all, I can only imagine that it's like for people who have much more than that!

That's exactly what I was thinking yesterday while sorting through my dragons. I'm super glad we have groups now, but this is a very much needed improvement. smile.gif

He did say in the first post that a custom sort will be coming. That would likely be similar to the custom sort we have now, so it's possible this sort of feature is coming soon?

I had an idea, that when you are in your specific dragon group and use actions(breed) it only would show the mates from the same group you are in.

Loving groups so much. I love the private and public feature and would like a way to make the public groups accessible from someone's scroll. Perhaps a badge that appears after you make your first group? It could take you to a page where all your public groups are listed. Being greedy about this the page could also be editable so you could arrange your groups in the order you want them.

The badge could be placed next to the trophy so it is easily found.

I'd rather not, I have groups like 2g Prizes and IOUs where I only added one of the breeding pair to save time, so it'd be annoying to have to clutter these groups with more dragons to be able to breed

I think it would be nice if you could see a link at the top of other users' scrolls for their public groups if they have them.

I would also like the option of adding multiple dragons to a group by holding down the Ctrl key while selecting dragons to add.

Altogether I am really thrilled to have this feature, though! biggrin.gif

News post says TJ will be adding the ability to highlight groups we want others to see at the top of our scroll, so that's already in the works smile.gif I hope we can put several up there, I'm only making about half a dozen groups and they're mainly for others ease of use.

Dunno 'bout anyone else, but I'd love it if a dragon's View page had some way of showing or finding out what groups it's in, as long as the groups are public. I know there's the drop-down box, but that's for the scroll owner's eyes only and I'm talking about when viewing other peoples' dragons. Personally I'd love it if someone could look at one of my dragons and see what different projects it's a member of.

I would like a filter for selecting multiple dragons at once like the same that we can use for fertiliy. And that we can use the very same filter again when we edit a group to add more dragons at once. I mean a filter that works similiar, but let us select multiple dragons at once.

For example i have a purbred project and adding all dragons from the same breed is not correct. I could have done that, but then i would have to remove a lot of dragons one by one... from the viewing page...

I would like to see a maingroup on my user page as the owner. Like for the owner we can select a maingroup (per default the first group that was assingend to that particular critter) and then when that critter is a member of more then one group a link named other groups just a text listing all groups...

This idea needs more input. tongue.gif

I'd like this too. I have my Thuweds linked in my sig, but I'd like for them to be visible to people just clicking my scroll too.

May I add a wish of having pages inside the groups, in the same fashion as it is on the entire scrolls, to avoid the data clutter maybe? ;w;

Wish we could use filters (available for breeding, BSA, sort by name, type, etc) within groups. I made iou and project groups expecting to be able to at a glance tell by filter if they were ready for breeding but... ;__;

I know the Z Project isn't something official, but I would love to group every dragon starting with a "z" in the code.

So, maybe group things based on code requirements in general? happy.gif

I'd also like the groups to let me feature choosen dragons but hide all the others from my visitor's (and partly mine - when I'm not visiting this group in particular) view, either by adding a 'hide dragonas from this group from your main scroll" or "hide your main scroll and feature/show group X instead for anyone visiting your main scroll link" - only the owner can access the hidden rest)

Some people hide their entire scrolls just because they have e.g. a CB Prize or CB Golds and Silvers or CB Hollies or just whatever else they don't want others to see (and maybe bother them about these), thanks to this they could hide whatever they don't feel comfortable to have people see while able to show whatever else they want to show - or at least don't mind to.

As for me, I hate having BSA dragons(which are NECESSARY to actually play DC properly and you can't just not have at least some of them) or additional CB hoidays(which I keep only in case I'll really wish to change a Holiday-Holiday pairing - monogamy rule excludes a pairing change of the same CB individual) on my scroll, I just don't want them there, they ruin the concept I have for any adoptable game I play - 1 set per thing, no additionals. And with BSAs (instead of Actions or Potions ro whatever that is not a part of the creature collection->scroll) this is just impossible, unless I'd put myself in a HUGE disadvantage... How to get 1 MF pair of a new breed (esp sth difficult to grab after the flood) without Influence and then Fertility to reduce the risk of a refusal? How to manage more breeds without Incubate? And this realase? Apparently without Whites->Ward it's also difficult to hatch thigns relatively soon and safely (ALL got sick this time, I still cant' hatch a black Power egg because it's sick and I cant' risk having it unhidden much)... But these additionals so much ruin the feng-shui of my otherwise perfect minimalistic collection...tongue.gif I personally have nothing to hide but things that I actually don't want to have but need them too much. So reasons may be different.

Also another useful thing could be group-restricted breeding? so if you go through this, the dragon you pcik for breeding shows only mates that are also in the same group.

I hope we get the ability to sort the order of groups in the list, too... Otherwise I am going to have to carefully go through each gen in order so that the list 'looks right'. Even Alphabetical order would be nice.

Oh yes please.

I'm constantly finding new groups I need to add, and I would love to have a way of reorganizing them so the order makes sense. (And so I can put the ones I use most at the top for faster adding of new dragons.)

Alphabetical would be fine (if we can't get a "move groups up and down in list" feature).

This thread is very widely scoped "Improving X." It's difficult to track such threads since there isn't any one request to focus on, and discussion constantly jumps around between different peoples' views on what that means. I'm going to close it and suggest that people make more specific threads for individual improvements.
