Sort treats and eggs by most recent year

This is a pretty simple one!

 

As the years go by, the wonderful sprites of Halloween treats and spring eggs will form longer and longer pages, and I know that I at least, and I assume many others, like to see the most recent batch they're collecting.

 

So an easy fix, just switch around the groups to have the most recent years on top. That way when you're taken to your virtual baskets, you can see this year's right there without having to scoll down (which over time will become more frustrating, especially for some users depending on their device/capabilities).

 

Very small change, hurts nothing, people get to see their new shiny sprites right on top after every click to appreciate the new work, instead of seeing the same first batch every time.

No, thanks. I like to look over my completed collection (missing only the Easter eggs from 2013) and then see my most recent ones at the bottom. Having the newest eggs on top would be rather annoying to me.

If it's optional that would be nice. I'd definitely use it (especially for the Trick-or-Treat stuff, too!) but I know some won't.

I would love to see this year's eggs at the top, at least during the collecting phase. Then I wouldn't have to scroll through 4 previous collections every time I want to see how many I have left to collect. Making it optional would please most people, I think

Just personally I like oldest -> newest age, but it's not like having it the other way around would hurt me.

 

Although it is definitely a good point that it's a little weird that you have to scroll down to see your newly grabbed egg.

It honestly doesn't really make sense to me that I "grab" an Easter egg, and it takes me to the top of the Festival page.... Where the oldest eggs are. To see the egg that I *just* clicked, I have to scroll all the way down. That really makes no sense to me.

 

I would *love* to see it changed, or at least an option to change!

I would love to have "pages" for the eggs in addition to the all eggs page. My computer is struggling to load all of them, especially with the animations.

 

For example:

Today you grab a Festival egg. It takes you to a page for only your 2014 eggs. At the top or bottom of the page, there are a bunch of links. The first one says See all, and this one is in oldest->newest order just like now. The others are for each year's eggs only. The banner appears with the year it was released.

Having this as an account option would be very nice, or at least having it take you to the current year's section instead. Either or. : )

Last year, my first egg basket collection year, I was much more excited about going to the page to see the sprites I'd collected than I am this year. I think the scroll-past-stuff-I'm-completely-used-to-by-now issue is one factor in that.

 

(edit: and I'm not concerned with my excitement, but with having artists' work be appreciated fully )

I,too,would probably be more apt to use it if it's optional since,when the mood hits,I enjoy looking at the newest completed goals/events.Though I'm at the same time used to the newest being at the bottom of the page when looking at my user lookup on neopets since that's how TNT dole out the trophies and such.

I'd love to see this - also for sprite-loading purposes.

 

When the images rotate, they won't be in the user's browser cache, and most browsers load images in the order they're listed on the page - so it'll take quite a while for all of the new ones at the bottom to load (except, the one you last clicked on if you just picked up an egg, which would be in your cache from the page you clicked on it from), especially with how animated gifs seem to be becoming more popular to make.

 

I totally don't mind if it's optional if people really do want it the other way. I'd definitely use the new order, though.

It seems like making it optional would be the best solution! And that way everyone could have what they wanted. For me, I'd obviously use newest first, because I like to look at the new sprites, and also because it makes sense that an egg I just picked up would go on the top of my basket.

 

Honestly I get so tired of having to scroll down on a device where that's sort of frustrating that I don't even look at the new eggs I'm collecting anymore. But boy do I know every single one of the first year's sprites.

 

I also really like the idea of having a page with the new eggs, then an option to view all, for those on slower devices.

What about if the newer eggs were at the top while you were collecting them and then after the event was ended, back in chronological order as they are now? I'd be cool with that

I think it's a tad much to make something this small optional. I don't think it'll kill those of us like me who like the chronological order as it is now if it changes. We'll get used to it. ^^

 

It was mentioned in the banner thread to perhaps add banners for every year titled with the year. In that were to happen, then I think the change would probably be easier because it'd be easy to keep track of what egg was in which year. o3o

honestly newest to oldest or oldest to newest doesn't make much difference to me. but when collecting at least, it should take to where the egg (or treat for Halloween) was placed, not the top of the page. Thus if left alone, it would auto-load to the section for this years sprites, no scrolling needed. Which I think would be a decent compromise.

personally, I like wobsters idea. while catching goodies current year only would be handy. Then see all or year by year, prefered choice possibly dictated by your connection. That way it would be easier to deal with while catching them but if you just want to enjoy them from time to time you could do so.also it would save bandwidth during the festivities if default during festivals was current only.(with the other options still available)

Scrolling to the bottom of the page to see my new eggs every time I get a new egg ANNOYS ME!!! Bigtime!!! To me, it has NEVER made sense to send the new eggs to the bottom of the page. Especially DURING the current event; after the event is over it's no big deal, but during is stupid.

 

My compromise would be this... During the event, ONLY the new eggs appear on the collection page. After the event is over, the page goes back to normal with the oldest eggs on top.

 

Plus, we need a banner for the oldest event, and I agree that the year of the event should be added to all the old banners.

Bump! Because I still think this is an easy thing that should happen.

 

I LOVE the idea of only the current basket being shown during collection times. It would get rid of the loading time (sluggish with the gifs in there) for people with slower internet and/or devices.
