Voyages of the Pegasus

Recommended Posts

Of the many cutthroats and sea rats that sail the horizon, only a few names are known for their ruthlessness, so much so, that a rival wouldn't dare to cross cannons or swords with them. some have met their watery grave, others have retired into a nice rich lifestyle, and one in particular still sails the sea. The ship is called the Pegasus and it's captain goes by Perseus. much like the hero of the Greeks, this sailor has fought monsters, been to lands that few ever return from, and instead of a shield, he has a face mask in the likeness of the gorgon, Medusa.

A once ex pirate ruled the seven seas before retiring from the swashbuckling lifestyle of a sea bound thief. He finds himself pulled back into the life and part of the Pegasus's crew unwillingly.

They let him live under one condition, He is to help them reach a treasure guarded by several monsters and beasts, seal it from a cursed king, and return to them to safety. Will he help this crew? Can he? Or is the legend about his mastery of the seas just that, a legend?

Name: Jacus Von Fang (Yes a reused name for me, but my use of Jacus WAS a pirate, so he returns to his roots.)

Age: late 20s to 30s, he lost track

Appearence: Here

6 foot even, fit build, scars scattered around his body from many a sea journeys. His eyes are a dark grey color.

He has a sword that has a elaborate design and decorated blade, but has it fair share of battle scars. The Top One

Once the legendary captain of the Crimson Sky, Jacus now uses his skills for petty theft work in the Port city of Foam Bay. Does he have it in him to return to the sea he once ruled unmatched?

"All hands on deck! Port City landing!" Shouted Broc as the captain went below deck to retrieve his mask. "Resupply and find the best navigator of the seven seas, as well as beyond! Captain's orders! Paco! Stow the colors. Don't want to be hung before we get our loot!" He called up the masts and a woman was doing acrobats in the rigging, structuring sails and tightening knots.

The Pegasus sailed into port with smooth grace, just before dawn. The lighthouse beam still swept across the ocean as half the crew left in search of a navigator and the other half started loading supplies on the ship.

The Rusty Rooster is a loud and rowdy pub, constant bar fights, drunk men staggering around the outside, and flirty wenches trying to get coin of hopeful men.

A cloaked man slowly walks from the pub, the only thing that makes him stick out is his clean face in the group of dirty and smelling street filth. Another man bumps into him.

"Hey pretty boy, back off!"

The cloaked man ignores him and walks by. The larger man grabs his shoulder, "HEY! DONT TURN YOUR BACK ON-" Suddenly a coin purse falls from the cloaked man. The larger man yells, "HEY! THATS MINE YOU PICKPOCKET!" He moves to hit the cloaked man but he nimbly dodges and sucker punches the large man, scoops up the coin purse, and books it down the alley. Sudden the pub erupts as more and more people realize they got pick pocketed too.

Broc strolled down the street with his captain cloaked at his side. Under a street lamp, a figure had darted out from the shadows of an ally and into the mountain of a man. Broc didn't budge and picked up the figure setting him on his feet. "Sorry there. " He rumbled brushing him off. Broc had no pockets, nor money bag on him to grab. It was his captain behind him that held anything valuable.

"Thieving? Someone of your skill should know a navigator." Said the cloaked figure behind Broc, their face hidden in the shadow of their hood.

The cloaked figure looked up at the man blocking his path, then back to the small crowd in pursuit, "No navigators here." He then tried to bypass him, but his cloak pulled against the wall which allowed the captain to see an ornate sword sheathed to his side, a weapon like that couldnt be stolen without a man hunt involved, meaning this man was either ex royal navy or ex pirate, and not just a grunt of either.

At a sound of a boot heal hitting the paving stones, Broc grabbed the man's shoulder, moving fast for a big man. "I think you lie... so you either come with me, and I'll pay you three times as much of the coins you have now, or I let them have at you and drag your sorry battered body on my ship. I highly doubt anyone would miss a thief. " the captain lowered their hood, revealing the iconic mask. Conveniently, there was a faded wanted poster for that same mask on the wall. "Scratch that. I'll give you double that amount. "The wanted poster said thirty thousand gold coins, alive, ten thousand dead. "Eighty thousand. To be my navigator.... or.. be my prisoner. Your choice."

The man looked at them with a frown. Spitting to the side he looked at the shorter of the two, "I think your talking to the wrong guy. Besides im only running so i dont have to get my sword dirty... so if you would please release me, i might be able to give you a few names, but after that, Im gone."

When the word "ship" was mention they could see a noticable change in his body language.

"A sailor afraid of the sea? Speaking of swords..." the group got closer and so did the masked figure. "You don't look like a Spanish naval officer... so, you should know not to spit at another pirate lest you want your head removed. But unfortunately... " the masked stranger pulled out a capsule and Broc covered his mouth and nose with a cloth as he threw it on the ground. A cloud of knock out gas erupted and the men dropped as they reached the cloud. "I'm taking the rest of you as well!"

The man went wide eyed as he recognized the capsule from experience. He broke free feom the large man and ran into the crowd that was beginning to collaspe, he cuts down the middle until her tripped , followed by being pinned down by a pile of unconscious men. His stuggle halted as the choice was to suffocate under the bodies or breath in the gas that would lead to his caoture. He went still.

Broc easily lifted the men off of him and up on his shoulder carrying him to the harbor and up on the ship. "Paco!" The captain called as Broc took the man below deck and in to holding, " Send up the green flair. I want them back so we can sail on the next tide in half an hour. James! Go man the wheel"

"Aye captain!" The two called and a green flair shot up into the sky going off letting the other crew members know that a navigator was found. The small amount of crew that left came back in pairs or groups of four or six and helped load the rest of the supplies and ready the ship to sail just as the sun started to rise. Broc sat outside the holding sell whittling a unicorn from driftwood.

Jacus stirred at the rocking of the ship in harbor. He then woke up with a jolt and looked around, "No no no no!" He staggered and grabbed the bars of the brig, "LET ME OUT OF HERE!" He shook the cell bars in a panic.

"No can do.." Drawled the big man. You stay down here until we're in open sea and in the middle of nowhere. No use of swimming, and the cap has all the life boats hidden so no chance of escape. Oh and any attempt on the captain's life we'll tie you to a plank behind the boat with no food or water for two days. each time you try, the days would get longer... and we sail into the roughest of seas...." He flicked a bit of wood off his crude artwork.

Jacus growled, "You kidnapping a common theif, you lose more than you gain with keeping me here!" He kicked the bars and sat down with a sigh. "Your all a bunch of amateurs..." he muttered under his breath.

Another bit of wood went flying. "How would a common thief from the land know that we're amateurs?" He raised an eye brow at him. "Seriously, an old retired Captain and ruthless pirate is afraid of getting on a boat? Paco collects wanted posters of all who came before us. She has yours hanging beside her hammock. Recognized you right away. You're definitely known for your navigating skills. And we won't lose anything, it is you who would lose your life if you refuse to help us. Captain Perseus is not one for the quick and typical deaths sailors are known for. Dragging you under the ship isn't much fun if you cant see it... No They'll tie you up nice and tight, strap seal meat to you and cut you up then dangle you off the side of the ship in shark infested waters. That's a show."

Jacus rolled his eyes and looked to the wall, "Nothing you say can intimidate me..." he took a deep breath and started analyzing his cell. The wood, the metal, the floor, ceiling, walls, etc. His grey eyes were... usual to say the least.

The ship was constructed of koa wood, and the deck below him was ipe wood. This kind of ship could take a hit with strong woods like that. The bars looked like simple steel and the ceiling held a single hole looking into a room above him. Any candles where held in cast iron lanterns that sat fixed to the walls outside of his cell. "Nothing I say maybe, but the captain could be very persuasive without to many words. " Broc chuckled.

Jacus went silent for a moment, then got up and walked to the bars, "Where. Is. My. Sword?" His voice was at a tone that made blood of land walkers and novice sailors freeze solid.

The man stood up. "With. The. Captain. " He said in the same tone. "We've been sailing the seas while you were still on it. We are all born on this ship or taken in by the captain while young. This captain is second generation, so assuming that all of us are novices at this piracy thing." He growls lowly.

Jacus scoffed, "Second Generation... real pirates dont believe such a thing. We are done talking. I dont get my sword, you might as well kill me because I'm not doing anything for you..." he sat in a corner and laid down, closing his eyes.

"You'll have to speak to the captain about that. And we're not just pirates. We are not just thieves, but explorers as well. " He said. He set down the unicorn. He took the knife and went above deck to help out as the unmistakable sound of the anchor being lifted and the feeling of the tide rising told they were going to set sail. The snap and a creek of a wood and the ship was off.

Jacus shivered and laid on his 'Bed', he took a deep breath and closed his eyes, "Should have stayed home... should have stayed home..."

The ship moved fast in the water. The trade winds graced them with speed, and soon the port city was a mear speck on the horizon, then nothing at all.

The captain came down to the brig bringing a bowl of potatoes and a small plate of dried sugared orange slices. "Breakfast. I hear you want you want your sword back. Well, to get it back, you'll have to prove your skills without the blade fighting each male crew member, then lastly, me. You best all of 'em, you'll get back your pretty blade. Clear?"

Jacus looked up at the Captain with hateful eyes, "Then I hope your prepared to lose most of your crew..." He held out his hand to take the plate of food. His eyes returned to dull look as he looked away..
