A Knight's Story

Recommended Posts

Plot:

Twins, a brother and a sister, change places to be a knight and a scribe. The sister wants to be a knight so she heads to the castle nearby instead of the convent in the mountains and dresses up as a boy to start training to be a knight while the brother goes to the convent to start training to be a scribe, which they don't teach to knights, and dresses as a girl. While on a field-trip of sorts, the brother and a few other girls get captured by a group of trolls and orcs and it's up to the sister and a few knights to save them.

((glad you like him and okay. sorry that this is a few hours late. I wanted to actually do something constructive at work instead of goof off and get in trouble by my boss before I left the office for the day))

Alexandra was riding on the back of her horse, Spot, on the way to the castle that was nearby with one of their servants riding with her. She had finally persuaded him to ride with her there instead of the convent because she wanted to be a knight although he thought it was a bad idea. When they stopped about halfway there to eat a quick lunch, they cut her hair to be shoulder length and he helped her dress in some boy's clothes that she had gotten from Avery. In turn, she had given him some of her clothes to wear that she didn't like anymore. Once she was dressed and they had eaten, they continued on their way to the castle until they arrived there just before dinner time. They made sure to put Spot in the stables before getting her registered and then she was shown to a room on the second floor so that she could get ready and wash up for dinner which would be soon.

Avery slipped into his sisters dress. She had cut her hair and he had let his grow long so with him in her dress and her in his clothes, it was impossible to tell who is who. Avery went off to the convent instead of his sister. She was always a bit more wild and adventurous then he was, where he was quiet, reserved and always a bit more feminine. He thought being a scribe was a sweet job, being surrounded day in and day out by dusty old scrolls, tomes and volumes written by scalars and mages, bards and philosophers alike. how ever, his parents wanted Alex to be "reformed" into a polite young lady, and their son to be "more manly" after them catching him sewing his own clothes and wearing his sister's gowns on more than one occasion.

It was Alex who came up with this idea of trading places. A brilliant idea, and he'd expected no less from his twin sibling, however when the time came he was the one who forged two letters for their parents originals switching their names so the son named "Alex" went to the castle with their correct recommendation, and the daughter named "Avery" went to the convent to learn mathematics, sewing, manors, advanced writing and reading as well as other things needed to be a scribe to all manor of folks.

Avery rode with her to the castle on his horse he called Lilli. He decided he'd sped the night, then leave in the morning for the convent, just to make sure everything was okay.

Alex had seen Avery follow behind her and Steve to the castle with Alicia, their other servant, and wanted to visit with him before he left in the morning for the convent but would have to do that after dinner because it was that time and she was expected in the dining hall with all of the other boys that wanted to be knights. She headed down that way after she had finished washing up after her ride and sat down next to a tall red and brown-haired knight (Zane if that's okay) and another tall knight with brown hair sat down next to her on her right (Cody).

Cody had heard that a newcomer had come to join the training that they had at the castle for knights and wanted to get to know this young sprite. When he came into the hall, he saw that the new trainee was already there and sitting next to Zane so he sat down on the trainee's right with a small welcoming smile.

"My name's Cody. What's yours?" he said and asked as an introduction because he could tell that he looked a bit nervous.

"My name's Alex. It's nice to meet you Cody," Alex said in reply with a much less nervous smile now on her face before she had turned her attention to the other knight to see what his name was. She was still kind of a bit nervous but knew that she would have to get it under control before morning when training would start.

Zane shifted his eyes to the newcomer. "Zane. " He said simply, obviously not much of a talker. "Welcome to training." He huffed before ripping into the bread roll like he was starving.

Avery had joined them, but instead of sitting with the other guys he sat by the head knight's wife. Here he mimics the woman, sitting with perfect posture, eating delicately then dabbing his mouth with the napkin like a proper lady would.

Zane popped his neck before speaking again, already halfway through his meal. "Your body will be sore every night and bruised from sparing. Those soft hands would toughen up here real soon." He said rubbing his thickly calloused hands together.

"Nice to meet you Zane," Alex said in reply before starting to eat her meal that consisted of a roll and mashed potatoes. When she was halfway done with her roll, she noticed that Avery was sitting next to the head knight's wife and mimicking what she did so that he looked like a proper lady when he ate. She thought about wanting to congratulate him later on a job well done for acting like a lady instead of a boy before noticing Cody looking over in his direction so she had her attention to be on him instead. She then also heard what Zane said shortly afterward regarding what all the training would entail during the next couple of days or so.

Cody could only sigh a bit at his friend's lack of communication at first before hearing the rest of what he said to Alex and then noticing the girl who sat beside the head knight's wife soon afterward. "Who is that?" he asked Alex before having his attention go back to being on his food before his staring got awkward.

"Good I'm looking forward to all of that," Alex said in reply to what Zane said before hearing Cody's question. "That is my twin sister, Avery. She's going to be going to the convent in the morning but she wanted to spend the night here so that she wouldn't get tired if she were to make the whole trip tonight," she said before her attention went back to being on her meal until she was done eating it.

Zane finished quickly, mopping up the rest of the potatoes with the last bit of bread. "Good decision. Orcs and trolls rome the mountain paths at night, but daylight burns their skin and eyes." He looked at Cody. "What, never seen a woman before?" He smirked at his friend. "Keep lookin at her like that and you'll creep her out and you'll never get to chat with her." He laughed.

Avery finished his meal and dabbled at his mouth one last time before asking to be excused. He then was shown to a room in a different part of the castle where the men weren't allowed to go.

"That's good to know and I'll have to remember that if I ever encounter a troll or orc," Alex said in reply before hearing what all he said to Cody. She couldn't help but hide a smile behind her hand before she heard the latter's response.

"I have seen a woman before but I've never seen that one around the castle until today and for the record I stopped staring before it got too weird," he said with a small blush on his cheeks before he finished eating his food.

"Well I'm going to go ahead and head to bed. I had a long journey here and I want to be able to get up early tomorrow so that I can get to training on time," Alex said before she picked up her tray and then set it on the counter where the dirty dishes went for the servants to clean. After that, she went into the hallway and found Alicia talking to a few of the servants that were hanging around there, gave her a note to give to Avery, and then went to her room to get ready for bed.

The note she gave her to give to her brother read:

See you in the stables early in the morning near our horses before you leave. I'd like to see you off and wish you luck.

-Alex

Avery was arguing with a couple lady servants who wanted to help him out of the dress. After pleading to them saying he had an embarrassing scar he didn't want anyone to see, he got them to leave and changed on his own. Peeking out at the knock on the door, he waved Alicia inside and read the note grinning. He folded it and slipped it in his journal after writing the address of the castle down intending to send her letters during their training.

Ashley let Alicia sleep in his room, getting up at dawn and dresses with her help before heading to the stables, brushing down lilli and feeding her oats for the long journey ahead. He waited for his sister , brushing down her horse.

Zane was up early training as he always was. He was the first one on the field and last one to leave. With him becoming a knight, he'd be the fifth knight in his family, and he had big armor to fill with his great grandfather's legacy of slaying a three headed Dragon and his father's legacy of leading a undefeated legion in the great war. He moved up quickly with his strength, but his worry of disappointing his family often provided a weakness when he fought.

Alex woke up early the next morning, dressed, and then headed to the stables to meet Avery. When she got there, she saw him feeding Lilli some oats and did the same thing for Spot who was in the stall next to her. "Good luck at the convent and I'll try to write you every day after training's over," she said as she brushed him down as well after feeding him and then turned her attention to him afterward. She knew that she had to get to the field, but wanted to see him out of the stable first before she would head there.

Cody got ready for the day and then headed down to the training field where he knew his friend was and then when he got there, picked up a sword and started to train with another trainee there. He didn't see Alex there yet and knew that if he didn't get there soon, he might get in trouble with their teacher.

"Good luck to you too Alex. "He says strapping on the saddle and walking with Alicia and her horse outside the stable. He hugged his sister and kissed her cheek. This was safe to do in front of others, for it w a sibling thing to do. Mounting his horse he waved over his shoulder at his sister. "Write to me as often as you can! I'll write about my time at the convent. Good luck brother!" He called as he turned his horse to leave.

"Hey cody! There goes your chance to talk to her, she might become a nun one day." Zane joked knocking his opponent's sword out of their hand.

"Thanks and be careful around the other girls that you don't get discovered and I'll try to do the same here with the boys," Alex said in reply before hugging him back after he had saddled Lilli and then led both the latter and Alicia's horse outside of the stable and she followed them. She kissed him back on the cheek before nodding in reply to what he told her about writing to him before she turned from them to head to the training yard and picking out a sword afterward. She then found an opponent to spar with and started doing that with some of the moves that Avery's and her grandfather had started to teach her just last year before hearing Zane yell to Cody about Avery.

"Shut up Zane!" Cody called back to his friend with light red cheeks from blushing before knocking the sword out of his opponent's hands as well and then heading over to where Avery was about to leave after mustering up enough courage to do so. "Um, hi. My name's Cody and I'm a new friend of your brother's as well as a fellow trainee with him. I know that you're about to leave but I was wondering if I could um write to you while you're at the convent to let you know how he's fairing with the training and to also see how you're doing there as well if that's okay," he said while running his hand through his hair a bit nervously.

Avery was blushing pulling his hat down to hide his face. "Oh um.... I will like that. My brother tends to overwork himself and he might not tell me the whole truth. M-my name is Avery... pleasure to meet you squire cody. " He says eloquently, in his best feminine voice. "Now, if you may excuse me, I must be off. Tis a long journey and it will be nightfall by the time we arrive. Please take care of my brother.." he said before nodding to him and ridding off.

Zane stinkers and disarmed his opponent. "Looks like you got a girlfriend now Cody!" He teased

Alex continued to train with the other trainee with sword fighting after she had knocked his sword out of his hands. They had started over and were now circling each other to see who would be the one to make the first move this time around.

Cody took his hand out of his hair when he heard her reply to his question, feeling happy that he was able to ask her before she left. "It's a pleasure to meet you too and I will most certainly do that," he said in reply to her last statement before she rode off with her servant and then turned to head back to where Zane and Alex were with a huge smile on his face. "She's not my girlfriend yet but I'm one step closer to having her as my girlfriend. Beat that," he said in reply to what Zane said teasingly before going back to training with his own opponent afterward.

"Come on. With these looks I can get any woman to fall for me!" Laughed Zane and knocked his partner down running over for a two on one against cody. "Besides she's not my type. Give me a girl who isn't afraid to speak her mind and packs a punch!"

Avery was quite on the way to the convent.

Alex was listening to Zane and Cody's conversation as well as continuing to circle her opponent but she tripped when she heard the last bit. Her opponent, seeing her falter and show weakness, lunged in and took the opportunity to strike. She moved to block the strike with her sword but missed and ended up getting hit with the butt end of the other trainee's sword in her shoulder. She grimaced a bit and then glared at the other's smug look. "You may have hit me that time but I assure you, you self-righteous goat herder that you won't get the chance to hit me again," she said with a weak insult as well as the only one she could think of but she wasn't afraid to use it as she moved quickly and ended up knocking him on his rear while tripping him with her leg. "Anyone else?" she asked as she looked around at the other available trainees. They shook their heads and she nodded like she was satisfied and then went over to an empty bench to sit down and take a break. She was in a bit of a bad mood now and didn't want to continue until she calmed down a bit more.

"Hm I'm sure that I can find you a girl like that and good. I get her all to myself then," Cody said in reply to everything that Zane said before attacking both him and his other opponent. He briefly looked over at Alex and wondered if he'd like to join in to help him but could tell by the expression on his face, that he was in a bad mood so didn't ask just yet so he had his attention go back to being on the other two so that he could focus.

(Can't play Avery now)

Zane dropped out of the fight and went over to Alex. "Yo, taking a break so soon? How about you spar me? Or are you scared to go against me?" He teased.

((okay. we can ts after they're done with training for it to be dinnertime and probably by then he'll be at the convent))

Alex looked up from the training sword that she still had in her hands when she heard Zane's voice. "Sure I can spar with you and no I'm not afraid of that," she said in reply with a small smile as she stood up before heading back to the training circle. She was less annoyed now so she was ready to train more.

Cody watched as Zane went over to Alex to spar with him and smiled a bit before having his attention go back to being on his one opponent. He didn't mind having a two-on-one type of sparring match because that would help him prepare for when he might be encountered by that later on but it was hard at times, especially when both opponents are really good with a sword and are really quick with their strikes and that's what it had been like earlier.

((Sounds good))

Zane unlike the others, stood flat footed. He readied his weapon and waited for Alex to attack. If he didn't attack first, Zane did, dropping low for an attack on the leg wapping his thigh with the flat of the sword.

Alex tried to dodge the sword coming towards her leg but wasn't fast enough and ended up getting wapped by the flat end of it as Zane did a low attack. She grimaced just the slightest before she did her own attack of a lunge coupled with a butterfly-like sweep of her sword towards his midsection.

After Cody was done with defeating his opponent again, he went over to the bench with the other trainees that were also done and watched Alex and Zane spar.

"I'm not going to go easy on you. in real life people won't go easy just because you're a beginner." He said jumping back getting cut on the arm. this seemed to upset him and, Gritting his teeth, he slammed his sword against Alex's with a growl. "No newby is going to take me out!" He hissed threw clenched teeth. He stomped on Alex's foot.

"I don't expect you to," Alex said in reply with a raised eyebrow to what he said in his first statement before hearing everything else and looking quite nervous at his change in attitude. She held her ground when he suddenly slammed his sword against hers but then grimaced again when her foot was stomped on. She didn't falter although it hurt a bit but she didn't let that deter her from training. She looked over at Cody for a bit of help and was mentally relieved when he came over to them. She broke away at his approach but only to start circling to look for a weakness in his stance.

Cody watched the whole thing unfold and thought that it was a bit too much for Alex to handle. He went over to them when he saw the former look at him for help and said to Zane when he got there, "Hey now. It was just a scratch so don't get so worked up. He also didn't take you out with scratching your arm so relax," he said as to try to get his friend to calm down. If he didn't and he carried on with his angry rants, he'd team up with Alex to spar with him to see if it would cool his temper.

Zane narrowed his eyes. He was a frightening opponent with his natural red colored eyes. "Don't baby him. You know that the real world won't be so easy on you! I'm not going to look to a newbie who doesn't even know the knights code yet! You think I'm angry about a scratch on the arm? I got more of those training with my father."

He gripped his sword tightly. Someone in the crowd of onlookers laughed. "I think he's pissed because I dared him to fight you and have to forfeit the fight!" Someone else called out "But if he lost to a newbie his dad will disown him wouldn't he?" Zane bared his teeth. "Shut up! You-" what came next was a string of fowl words so strong three boys went as white as a sheet. "Forget those yellow bellied maggots and let's finish this fight!" He snarled and charged at Alex.

"I'm not babying him and yet you go into beserk mode when you receive a small cut on the arm from his sword from a strike he gives to you while sparring," Cody said in reply before both him and Alex turn towards an onlooker when they hear what he said and asked. "That will probably about do it," Cody said to himself before Zane charged towards Alex to finish the fight.

Alex was still circling when the charge came and she moved out of the way before he could cut her but held up her sword just in time in case he moved to strike towards her head or midsection so that she could block the blow.
