Purple Hatchling Descriptions

Recommended Posts

OK, so I have a purple hatchling. Its genderd male. So why in the world does the description still say I think its a girl? I think with the new males the description should be changed accordingly. Also seemed problematic anyway when it genders, because you KNOW its a girl.

I hope some thought is put into this!

Take a look at the adult description =) It stats that only recently were male purples discovered and that at the moment its very rare to discover one (even tho its easy to get male purples) so to stick to the adult description the hatchling description has not changed.

Yes, first stage is fine. Just when it genders male, and you KNOW it is a male, it really makes no sence to say ou think it is a girl.

I agree. The S1 descriptions for the purples are fine. But for S2, they aren't. Once you know it's a male, why would you still think it's a girl? You aren't stupid. Furthermore, once you know it's a girl, then that makes it pretty obvious that you do know how to check, despite what the description says, otherwise how would you know it's a girl in the first place?

i agree with this, i was wondering why it wasnt changed when the male was released. i just figured it would be coming along soon. it is kind of annoying to me to see 'male' and then 'you think it's a girl, though you're not sure how to check'. its one of those head-to-the-side moments.

Well, there are animals in which it's extraordinarily hard to tell. Parakeets, for instance, especially the young. Most birds, actually, unless there's a marked dimorphism, like in Eclectus parrots.

...Point aside, I don't really see anything wrong with mistaking a male hatchie for a female. Dragons are reptiles, another class which, if I'm not mistaken, are very hard to tell for gender.

but if youve already discovered for sure that it is a male, the description makes no sense. unless it can randomly change genders as a hatchling. while it may be hard to tell, we have no problem telling with the others once we've decided what it is, thats what it is. there isnt any second guessing ourselves with them, why is it acceptable for the purples to be different at first sight, but not be able to tell what gender it is? males have moustachey things, females dont. its not hard to tell. i dont know if any of that made sense, but im sure you get the point.

I agree; once the gender icon shows up, the "you think it's a girl" should go away.

Agreed.

If not, its kinda like;

A: Oh, look, its a boy! I checked.

B: No....I think its a girl.

A: Trust me, its a boy. You just gotta look.

B: Mmmmhh....are you sure? I think its a girl, I just don't know how to check.

A: Yes! You do! I just showed you!

Especially with the little mustache that the male hatchlings get. The message makes even less sense given that the S2 hatchlings are dimorphic.

You: Oh, it's a girl.

Cave: No it's a purple, therefore female.

You: No, look, this here means it's a boy.

Cave: But it's purple.

You: You said that about pinks.

Cave: Pinks are female, are they not?

You: Bright pinks, yes, but not normal pinks.

Cave: No difference.

You: ...I'm not talking to you.

It makes the cave seem racist and/or sexist. I think they should be changed

XD Because of your post of win, I support this suggestion.

"You think it's a girl, although you're not sure how to check." should just be completely changed to something else on all hatchies. Maybe "Wow, this hatchling is really purple!" or something. :3

Budgie girl stepping in.

I was sold a budgie that APPEARED to be a boy when it was first bought. After 6 months of making me think its male, suddenly its cere becomes talcom power white around the nastel cavities.

Oh... Thats a female bird. Whoops... Sorry "Adam" at least I can switch your name to "Eve". laugh.gif

I tend to think, that the purple descption reflects this kind of problem. You think its a girl, but the system is telling you its a boy. Its a sort of difference of opinion, you get it with experts. I saw it first hand at the local budgie club, a 6 month old bird with vague baby colours still being argued over male/female. huh.gif

So I don't think its not entirely fesible that it can't stay, although a slight tweak might not hurt.

Maybe along with the "grown wings" message, it says "Oops, and it looks like it was male after all!"

there are already different messages for each gender for the hellfire dragons

so why not here too

maybe something like this:

female:

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. You thought it was a girl, although you were not sure how to check.

And look! It's grown its wings and you were correct about its gender, too! It must be close to maturing."

male:

"Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. You thought it was a girl, although you were not sure how to check.

And look! It's grown its wings and oops, you were wrong about its gender, too! It must be close to maturing."

Agreed, how can you think something when you KNOW something. S1 if fine, leave that as it is, but S2 should be changed.

I like AiKirikaX's idea of the new discriptions

I agree. And it is true that some people have a hard time knowing what they are looking at with certain animals. But for us seasoned veterans, there shouldn't be an issue. I'm going to use rats for an example, since rats gender very obviously after a certain point.

As a baby, most people cannot tell if they are looking at a boy rat or a girl rat. Newbies to the rat field and petstores are notorious for getting sexes wrong all the time. An s1 hatchie is like a baby rat. No blatiently obvious differences, so you don't know if you've got a boy or girl. But after a few days, breeders can tell if they have boys or girls and are right more than 90% of the time. s2 hatchies would be like those rats. Newbies still wouldn't be able to tell, but those of us that have worked with them a lot would.

Even with reptiles with no blatiently obvious difference, experts can tell. My vet could tell my beardie was a female just by looking at her head size. Same with my snake. Markings and tail spurs gave it away very easily. Joe off the street wouldn't know.

Most of us have a LOT of dragons. It would be safe to say that we would know something about dragons if they were real. I think it is crazy to think that we wouldn't have figured out signs to look for, especially after the animal genders.

I fully support changing the message.

The Purple's description is based on their colour's theme. The 1st stage hatchie description express the fact that you think it's a girl because it's purple. The 2nd stage hatchie male is different from the female only for their moustache thing but, as said in the adult description "It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female [...]. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known [...], very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons", the male ones are a recent discovery and aren't well knowed so in DC's real life, unless you are the one that discovered the existence of males, you look at the hatchie and say "Weird! This one has little moustache! But it's a Purple, an only female breed, it's girlie coloured, so it's a female." Also in DC real life we haven't gender symbols that float next to the hatchies, so if it's a male you don't know it. At first it seems illogical, but thinking it becomes logical, besides if the description was wrong for the spriters when males were introduced, it was changed in that days.

I just noticed this once again on a male purple hatchie. It still seems silly. Is the OP still around? maybe we could get a poll:

YES it should be changed (post reason)

I don't care

NO it makes sense (post reason)

or something.

I'm going to add a "support" to this. By the time it hits S2, the discerning dragon owner has probably figured out that their hatchling is not, in fact, a girl.

Also in DC real life we haven't gender symbols that float next to the hatchies, so if it's a male you don't know it.

No, but our scrolls are collections of information we keep about our own dragons in "DC real life". So you can assume when the gender symbol appears on the scroll, which in game terms is the DC code revealing to us what the hatchling gendered as when it hatched, it's our DC "avatar" writing down that we've discovered that a hatchling is male or female. So if in DC real life you've updated your scroll with the information that your new purple hatchling is a male (the male symbol is now on the scroll), you know it's not female.
