ANSWERED:Change joined 2006-2010 to "Joined before xxxx"

Recommended Posts

With the new "date joined" display at the top of our scrolls, )TJ said the site didn't track join dates between 2006-2010, so anyone who joined then is now listed as "joined on 2006-2010"

However Shokomon had th idea to change this to "Joined by / before (date of birth of oldest argon on scroll)", which I think would be more accurate and aesthetically appealing :3

I agree (and not just because I came up with it.) xd.png

Edit: The post angelicdragonpuppy was referencing -

You know for the start date, wouldn't it be more accurate to put "Joined on before or during [insert year of oldest dragon]" as opposed to the range that it is now (2006-2010).

Because by the time you got your first dragon, you have definitely joined the game, even if you abandoned or lost other dragons before hand.

So my oldest dragon was raised in 2009, so I definitely joined at least by 2009, so the range for me doesn't need to include 2010.

At least, that is how I've see it.

I completely agree! Mine said sometime in 2008, and whether or not the actual date is correct it would be a LOT better to have that date then the utter vagueness of "oh, so you joined some time between 2006 and 2010".

Personally I think going with the date of the oldest dragon for those that can't be tracked/too old is the best way. Yes, it's not completely accurate. (mines about two weeks before that because I joined just in time for the Lagmonster to hit and everything died) but it's close enough for horseshoes and hand grenades as the saying goes. makes more sense than a whole range of years.

Just put this in the help thread about this being a 'glitch'. Which it unfortunately isn't.

So I really don't see what the problem was with using the date of the oldest dragon to begin with.

I'd prefer the join date be listed as my oldest dragon rather than a four year range of years as well.

Even if a person's oldest dragon way week or months off of their join date, imo it's better than a 4 year range. better to be slightly inaccurate than completely vague.

Mmm, yea, mine showed an actual date yesterday and I much preferred that. My first four dragons are from Mar 20, 2010, and I know that's the day I joined because I immediately grabbed eggs. Why not use that?

Why not use the phrasing "Started playing on [DATE OF OLDEST DRAGON HERE]" when it's not clear on the exact date someone joined and then "Joined on [DATE]" when there is an exact date?

Started playing is a date that we can factually find for every user in that range. If they didn't have a dragon from then to now then I doubt they even remember their login or would come back.

TJ's reasoning was that someone could have joined, then later released all their oldest dragons for whatever reason--restarting, cleaning messy lines etc--in which case the join date would be really inaccurate.

I understand that, but 2006-2010 seems way more inaccurate than anything else could possibly be, which is why I think a joined by (oldest dragon birthday) version is a good compromise xd.png

Hopefully this wouldn't effect scrolls older than 2010-- I know my oldest dragon is a few days off because I grabbed it from the AP. Not that I mind much if it changes, I just like having it be exact since I rejoined a few months ago.

Support. My "join" date would be innaccurate, but it's not a timeline. laugh.gif

I would also support changing "Joined on" to just "Joined."

I'd much rather have my oldest dragon date as my join date, If it's a few days off (which it is), it's not a big deal. And who's to know or care?

As for "joined, then later released all their oldest dragons for whatever reason--restarting, cleaning messy lines etc--in which case the join date would be really inaccurate.)...yes it would be, but that is their choice. Is it possible for join date to remain unchanged even if the oldest dragons are gone?

100% support. I've been playing off and on since the date I joined and that is when I got my first dragon which was Blueriver. I'd love to have that shown on my profile!

Would switching to the oldest dragon's date or year and adding "circa/c." be a possible compromise? It would give us a more precise date while not claiming to be 100% accurate.

I don't remember if my first eggs made it, but I'd prefer the date on my Spring to a span of years.

I support this. The date on my scroll yesterday was pretty accurate, although I may not have been able to catch a dragon the first day I joined. I remember the cave always being empty when I tried to find an egg at first. But I do know that by some miracle and with the help of some experienced players, my first dragon did survive and is still on my scroll.

I would much rather have my scroll dated by his capture than by some nebulous day in a 4-year range!

My join date IS the date I got my first dragon as by some miracle none of my dragons died. I'd love to have "Joined Oct. 4, 2008" back at the top of my scroll. Even if for others it's off by a bit, it's way better than a 5 year range.

I do support this, though I think that there's have to be two settings, one for people who joined after registrations were tracked and one after. But assuming that can be sorted then why not!

So for the people who have the date actually showing on their scrolls, what format is it in? Like specific day/month/year? I checked a couple scrolls and it looks like you can't see someone else's join date.

If the plan is to have it be something you only see on your own scroll, I think using the oldest dragon's stolen/laid date works pretty well. I know my first batch of four eggs died from not knowing how to play yet, so the exact date is probably a week or two off from my first successfully grown dragon. Or maybe something like "Summer 2008" would be a fun way to extrapolate the date of the oldest dragon (though I admit this bias comes from joining around the time the seasonals were first released, but missing out completely on the original summer dragon's release and having to wait a year for them again xd.png).

Worst case scenario, just showing the single year that would be a scroll's most likely starting point is better than a whole range.

Mine showed as "Joined Oct. 4, 2008", which in my case is the exact date I started playing.

My join date was Dec 4, 2008, which was when I started playing... joined the forums on Dec 10, 2008.

Support! However it's worded, going by the oldest dragon on the scroll is going to be way better than the 4-year-period right now.

ER - no. While that does apply to me, I know several people who abandoned all their earliest dragons months after they started playing, when they developed a play style and decided they didn't want them any more.

That said - I'm OK with this as a change, just saying it will not necessarily be accurate at all. (MINE would be, but...)

Maybe keep the whole range as a default, but put a link beneath where we can submit the link to our oldest dragon to get a more accurate date? Finding our oldest dragons, with the various sort features (drop-down menu for "sort by age" on the scroll itself, using custom sort and hitting reset without saving the new sort order), this is very easy for us to do.

Yes, some people may have "cleaned" their scrolls and thus be unable to show a link to their oldest dragon - but I don't see why everyone should be "punished" for the choices of some.

I really cannot see this as a punishment. It's the same kind of thing as having pre-biome dragons just show as caught in "cave." Historic.

Also - as others can't see that date anyway, only you - how much does it matter in the ultimate shedload of stuff ? I know when I got here..... (January 27, 2010...) Who else needs to ?

Did the old thing that listed the time we joined break?
