Posted September 6, 2011 My favorite character is Death... Ah, yes. Death's hilarious Thief of Time has a lot of him in it... I remember that's why I liked it so much. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) I love Terry Pratchett! I was introduced to his books this summer, when my cousin lent me The Colour Of Magic and Sourcery. I loved them, and bought at least 5 when I came back home I am currently reading The Hogfather and I just love the Death of Rats Another book by him that rather amuses me is Johnny of the Dead. Favourite characters are Rincewind, Twoflower (He's so cute ) and Conina. Edited September 6, 2011 by Missingheart Share this post Link to post
Posted September 6, 2011 Discworld is definitely one of the best book series ever. It's both comedic and serious at the same time. It can really tug at your heartstrings, even while you're rolling on the floor laughing and cheering. ^.^ The most recent one I've read is Small Gods. Brutha's and Om's antics were epic Share this post Link to post
Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) Discworld, I adore Discworld! Seiously, every single book from that series is pure gold - I've started with The Colour of Magic and liked it, but didn't really see just how truly amazing these books were untill I read more of them, when it became clear that even though all those stories stand on their own, they are at the same time a part of a larger whole. That (among many, many other things) is what I love about these books - the more you read, the more invested you get in the characters and the wonderful world around them. If I had to pick favorites, I'd probably pick Sam Vimes as my favorite character and Night Watch as my fav story, folloved closely by Interesting Times and I don't know, the other 30+ books. Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) I can not wait o3o Edit: Forgot to ask, but does anyone have a clue what that thing on his shoulder might be? Edited September 12, 2011 by Fortune86 Share this post Link to post
Posted September 12, 2011 FFFFFF that looks amazing. I have no idea what that thing is. But it looks like it has no body Share this post Link to post
Posted September 13, 2011 I can see that it has arms (so hopefully they are attached to something). Maybe it's body is hidden behind its head and Vimes' helmet? I'm also a bit worried about that hourglass... Share this post Link to post
Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) Maybe it Nobby? (just a joke) It has at least 3 lecks, you can se a part of a hindled It looks like the werewolf-version of Dobby the House elf Edited September 13, 2011 by Kurtos Share this post Link to post
Posted September 13, 2011 I'm trying to think of all of the Discworld non-humans I can think of but none of them seem to match it. I'm guessing it's going to be a new creature or one that's only had a brief mention. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 13, 2011 And ugly? Maybe it's a goblin? Have they been mentioned in Discworld lore? Share this post Link to post
Posted September 13, 2011 Is that Vimes or Carrot? The cigar and expression put me in mind of Vimes, but he looks too young. Then again, I've only read up to 'The Fifth Elephant' (I'm doing it out of order, unfortunately, so I'm reading 'Jingo' right now) so maybe my knowledge it a bit patchy. Can I say I much prefer the serious covers to the parody ones? I always thought the parody ones were ugly; that is beautiful and badass. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 13, 2011 That is Vimes. I'm not sure how old he is supposed to be, but I've always figured late forties to early fifties. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 13, 2011 errm, I think you can try and calculate it if you read Night watch. i don´t remember it clearly, but I think there were some specific dates Is it snuff like the cold ? Share this post Link to post
Posted September 14, 2011 No. The three meanings of 'snuff' that I know of are: 1) Stuff made from tobacco leaves. People who use it generally sniff it up through their nose. 2) Extinguish a light. In the old days people would 'snuff' out a candle by putting a little metal helmet over the flame and starving it of air to burn. 3) Death. 'To snuff someone out' is the same as 'to kill someone'. Posted September 17, 2011 Edit: Forgot to ask, but does anyone have a clue what that thing on his shoulder might be? Do you think it could be Mr Nutt from Unseen Academicals? I won't say what he is (it'd be a HUGE spoiler - and ruin the whole book if you haven't read it) but I suspect it could be him. FS Share this post Link to post
Posted September 19, 2011 I doubt it, it's kind of small and I though Nutt was roughly human size. Of course, it could be a baby of his kind.... Share this post Link to post
Posted September 19, 2011 Actually Mr Nutt changes in size several times throughout the book. It's been a while since I read it, but I seem to remember him as being smaller in the beginning and becoming bigger a various points later on. And he was thought by most people (including himself) to be a goblin and I always thought of goblins as smaller than humans. FS Share this post Link to post
Posted September 19, 2011 I thought he started off being slightly smaller than a human to being bigger than one... Anyway, I just found out that Unseen Academicals is going to be the next book to be adapted for TV/Sky. Share this post Link to post
Posted December 31, 2011 aaargh! I just realised I've completely forgotten the plot of I shall wear midnight. I am disappointed in myself, I've taken pride in the fact that I can at least vaguely remember the storyline of each of the books. and now I've gone and forgotten one! Share this post Link to post
Posted January 3, 2012 Good excuse to re-read it o3o Has anyone read any of Pterry's other books? Like Nation? Share this post Link to post
Posted June 27, 2012 So apparently there is a new PTerry book out in September, called 'Dodger'. It's not based in Discworld, but Victorian London. ... Not sure if anyone else cares... Share this post Link to post
Posted January 21, 2013 I came across a teaser for Dodger, and I think it sounds interesting - I'm hoping that it'll be at my local library soon, so I can read it. Share this post Link to post
