Remove "grouped" dragons from main scroll

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Right now, if I put all my CBs in one Group, they'll still be in their original order when I click on the Scroll link. That means, I still have to sort them on my "main" scroll.... as well as in their specific group. Which is a pain, and limits the utility of groups as an organization tool.

So.... I'd say let us move dragons so they only show up in their groups. That way, I won't have to also sort the main scroll which with 8500 dragons is a real pain.

ETA:

To clarify, since I apparently wasn't clear enough, because of how groups work this would be *optional*: ie, YOU choose whether or not to uncheck the checkbox for the Main scroll. That's all I want: a checkbox for the Main scroll, just like the other groups, so I can remove dragons from the main scroll to cut down on the size of scroll I have to constantly deal with.

Cheers!

I actually like this idea. I'd love to sort it properly in my groups and to not show ALL my dragons on the main scroll, but show them in their different groups would be a ton better! I could make groups just for different breeds and then if I wanna get to them faster, I can just click on the groups and then get there, without having to scroll down infinitely. It'd be a way easier method to really get to all the goddamn dragons, name them, and organize them to my delight and needs.

I like the idea but definitely would have it be an option, to choose to show on the main scroll or not. Like choosing to show our usernames on scrolls or not.

Isn't this already available? You can choose to show 'ungrouped' - hiding all your CBs, in your example, from your scroll - or you can view your groups. As long as you name your groups something logical ("CB dragons", "Holly Contest -year-", "Prizes", "Holidays"...) you should be able to find whichever dragon you're looking for.

Am I missing something?

Yep, you are.

When you first go to your scroll, it always shows you all of your dragons, regardless of groups. Which means that unless you want your scroll to rapidly descend into Chaos.... you STILL have to sort all of your dragons, all at once.

Frankly, I'm against this. The scroll is a record of all your dragons. Putting a copy of their records into a certain folder ("group") doesn't eradicate them from your full record, nor should it do so.

This. The main scroll should show everything. Why not just add an option to display the "ungrouped" group as your personal main visible one, if you want?

Ah, I think I get it; you want the publicly visible scroll to be sorted by group?

That would make sense; support. If you mean something else, perhaps there's another way you could put it? (I hope I did get it though tongue.gif)

No, please. I like that I'll be able to group things into useful organizational groups but still have everything available on my scroll when/where needed.

Sock, given the way.groups work now it'd be up to you if you wanted to remove them from the main group or not. So why so strongly against something optional?

I agree with others who have mentioned for this to be optional- maybe like a tick box when creating a new group that says "Remove these dragons from showing on your main scroll" ?

Right now, all dragons are on the main scroll regardless. Which means, I STILL have to sort them *on* the main scroll, which means I still have to *fight* with sorting, which is atrocious. And I still have to organize them, which still takes lots of time.

All I'm asking for is a little check box in groups that would let me shift a dragon out of the "Main" scroll group so long as its in another group already. That way, I don't have to *constantly* sort dragons into their spots amid 8,500 other dragons. I could split them into "CBs" and "Bred", and at any one point only have to deal with half of the dragons I have.

What we have now is glorified tags. And frankly, I've always preferred tabs to tags, because tabs lets you move an item to a different location and lets you break things down into a few smaller groups without ever having to deal with the whole. Tags is just a filter, really.

But the best thing is when you combine the two, and give people the ability to choose how THEY sort their scroll. And I think that all you have to do is let people remove a dragon from the Main group if they are already in a sub group to have *both*.

Cheers!

As long as it's optional I'm ok. If it can't be optional, though, then please no--I sort my cave by breed, and plucking members of my groups (IOUs, breeding projects, 2g SA babies...) would make my main scroll less organized, not more.

...Act-u-a-lly... Cyradis, what if there was an option to automatically sort by groups? Like instead of color sort or breed sort you could sort your scroll by groups, in order of first created? So if I made group 1 and group 2 and picked sort by group, my main scroll would be first, then a divider with group 1, then a divider with group 2. Dragons in multiple groups would sort by the first they were added to I guess.

That's the very possibility and option I'm missing in groups (aside to sorting, which is planned anyway) too!

I have my different reasons because of a different gameplay but I really want to hide some of dragons fromt he main scroll//want jsut choosen dragons to be visible for visitors (and most of the time me)

Exactly this.

I'd LOVE if I could do this. I'd much rather have them all grouped into their own groups, with an option to toggle back and forth between the entire scroll AND the grouped dragons. And to actually freakin' have the dragons already arranged on my scroll by the groups.

And if the groups could be moved around into my specific order, NOT by when they're first created, then that would be the most epic possible solution!

It does my Virgo heart proud and happy to have something like that so I can have MUCH better organization to deal with my 1,000 dragons as it is (and I don't have the 10,000 dragons some other people have!!)

So? Just do an auto-sort on your main scroll, and you're pretty much set.

However, I'm against hiding certain dragons from visitors, unless you choose to hide all your adults. It just might turn into a cheating tool for gifting threads if "new players" hide all their valuables in private groups and ask for rares to be gifted to them.

ETA: I just thought of something of a compromise:

1) When displaying someone's main scroll, show all ungrouped dragons first, together with all dragons in private groups (as if they weren't in any group at all), then a header (indlucing the name of the following group), then group #1, header, group #2 and so on.

In order for this to work, we would need to be able to sort our groups, so to speak. So we can decide which group goes where. Also, sorting the dragons within each group... Ideally, the headers would work like spoilers so you need to click the header in order to view the group below. Links to each public group on the top of each member's scroll would also be a nice feature.

2) A little easier to do, probably: Simply allow only for dragons in public groups to be taken from the main scroll. But not for private groups. (Just my opinion.)

This sounds the best for me. smile.gif Allow only dragons in public groups to be taken from the main scroll.

That way I can arrange by breed and breeding plans and sort the adults and frozen hatchlings however I want within those groups, and sort the groups themselves however I want as well.

Would the dragons appear multiple times if they're in multiple groups, or would the main scroll only show unsorted dragons and you have to go through the tags/tabs to find the other groups?

Apparently, they'd have to appear multiple times if they're in multiple groups, as each group needs to be displayed fully (for convenience's sake). In this case, it would make sense if the main scroll shows only the ungrouped dragons (including dragons that are only to be found in private groups), or it wouldn't fit in with this suggestion.
