What do you do for Easter?

Recommended Posts

So what do you guys do for Easter?

Any personal or family traditions? Anything you do that maybe no one else you know does? Or maybe you don't celebrate Easter at all but still do something to take advantage of the holiday.

I personally usually made a 10 hour drive cross country to see my Grandmother, however this year we were met with a blizzard, so we couldn't go. :c

Easter time usually clashes with my birthday - a few times my birthday has landed on Easter Sunday/Monday, so sometimes I spend my Easter celebrating! Last Easter I went on holiday to France, and spent my Sunday in a French church attempting (and failing) to sing French hymns. We don't really have traditions though.

Same here, I was actually born on a good friday. So this means that in addition to the other easter foods and treats there's cake as well.

Usually we go out on the snowmobiles for ice fishing, skiing, and just enjoying the fine weather we usually have around this time of the year. It's a fairly common thing to do for all people around here.

I live in a pretty rural little corner of Europe and here on Easter priests walk from house to house to say a prayer and sometimes give out some religious things. They only enter houses that are marked with a trail of flowers.

So usually before Easter we clean the house and organize everything, then on Easter morning we wake up and mark the house with the flowers, leaving the trail so the priests know where to go and don't accidentally end up in the storage room. We used to also buy those giant Kinder Easter eggs, they used to have cool little puzzles and toys, but now it's all movie merch and it kinda sucks IMO.

IKR? It's the same in Canada. I miss the obscure tiny toys they used to have. D:

I worked this Easter. Yay restaurant industry! tongue.gif

When I was younger, I'd go to church and then we would join friends to search for eggs. S'bout it.

I accidentally started a tradition of creating a "treasure hunt" for my family around Easter. I did it two years ago, then again one year ago, and this year my sisters said it's a tradition, so I had to do it again. tongue.gif

It was fun for the adults (my parents and sisters), but I'm afraid it wasn't very interesting for my niece who is ten years old. Some parts turned out to be too difficult and time-consuming (such as decoding a "pirate cipher"), so it became boring for her when only the adults had something to do. sad.gif Well... I have one year to make better plans for next time. ^^

When I was a child we used to build nests in the garden so the Easter bunny would put eggs and sweets in them. Of course one year my sister and I got up early on Easter sunday and hid outside to confirm our suspicion that it was actually our mother who put those things in our nests. laugh.gif

A few years later we played "Easter bunny" ourselves by walking across our village in the middle of the night, entering the apartment building in which my sister's boyfriend lived, and leaving candy for him. (Inverse burglary. xd.png )

Every Easter we go to my Grandma's house to eat an Easter Ham. This year was no exception.  When I was younger we did the coloring eggs and egg hunt things, but now we just get a chocolate bunny and my parents "hide" it in the pantry for me. :P

Mom makes us go to grandma's house and spend time with family members I don't know. The only ones I spend any time talking to are my cousin I play World of Warcraft with and my grandpa, who has Alzheimer's, so every conversation is new and interesting. At least for him.

I didn't go anything in particular other than use that time to get dry wall up and... organise my basement.

When I was a kid Easter was a Big Deal for the family, everyone gathered at grandparent's house for lunch and egg-hunting, they had a big front yard with lots of great spots to hide eggs. Nowadays Easter is a difficult time, my grandpa died on Easter years ago and we were really close and I still struggle with it.

I stay home to eat candy and be an atheist while my family goes to church 😆

In all seriousness though, Easter is important to me, but not really for the reasons it's important to most people. I'm incredibly proud to be an atheist, so when I'm able to really show it, like not going to church on Easter with my Catholic family, that's an important part of me expressing who I am.

Hahah. This year I was in a airport terminal catching a couple flights on Sunday. Went to the art encounter for the weekend. It was pretty cool.

Be very careful. I got caught in that one for gingerbread houses at Christmas. I did it for my two, 50 years ago now - secure in the knowledge that they would leave home in the end. Then when one of them had children of her own, she wanted to "revive the tradition". I did it before it occurred to me that I should have said it was a MOTHER/DAUGHTER thing and SHE should make them. And NOW I end up doing it for the older one's girlfriend as well, and the younger one's best mate from school.... This last Christmas it didn't work out, so I am hoping it will die....

Easter - got 2  big chocolate  eggs and am having serious issues finishing eating them ! Other than that - nothing special.

As I am not a religious person, I do not consider this day much different that most others.  Most of my friends know my feelings and for the ones that don't know, it just hasn't come up.  I was invited to three Easter dinners this year, two by family, but the initial invite was by a family that knows my outlook and the topic never came up during the evening, either with them or the other guests, and as the first invite, that was the one that I accepted.  During Grace, I merely remained in a moment of silence.
