This is where you talk about the mainstream Pokemon games, but only Kanto through Sinnoh since B/W, B2/W2, and X/Y have their own threads.

3rd-genners unite!

Something something damn hippies. Whatever happened to gangs and mafia gym leaders?

I think Gen 4 is my favorite. Most of my favorite Pokemon came from that. Especially Darkrai, who is my absolute favorite out of all the ones that exist. Other ones that I like are Lucario, Togekiss, Roserade, the water and fire starters, Giratina, Dialga, Arceus, Shaymin, Gallade, Luxray, Garchomp, Snover (because of its funny cry), and I guess Porygon Z (no neck!). Sorry, the list is rather long.

Lmao

As far as game-playing goes, it's hard to decide which ones are my favourites, though I suspect gen 2 and gen 3 are nearly tied. I love replaying Gold and Ruby. I probably like Ruby/Sapphire more, though.

I'm replaying it now and was leveling a Magikarp. I have no idea why, I'm going up against Wattson next. He used to be a total breeze for me, lost one Pokemon at most when battling him, but he's been killing me in every battle. jhgfdsa Guess I'll just have to keep at it. But I'm getting real sick of leveling my Pokemon against Electrikes. Hoards and hoards of Electrike. I'm pretty sure I've wiped out half of their population at this point.

Pokemon Emerald was the first ever Pokemon game I owned. ouo I've replayed it dozens of times over, and it's probably my favorite Pokemon game ever. XD

Though I was never fond of the surfing. I recall when I first played the gen 4 games I was like "Where's the water. Where's all the water. Why aren't I using Surf."

I've only played emerald recently. Team Magma all the way! My favorite early game is without a doubt Silver. I adored the pokemon of gen 2 and the story was quite nice as well.

I use to play them as a kid. Though I would want to say that the original games were my favorites (blue, red, yellow). When gold and silver came out I had owned them and just didn't like them. Guess cause of the newer pokemon. Some what felt like a repeat.

G2 is my favorite. I loved the new cities, new Pokemon, and it was an added bonus being able to play Kanto again after beating the main story. Some of my fondest memories are chasing Entei, Raikou, and Suicune all over Johto.

Ah, a true genwunner.

There's nothing wrong with someone preferring the original games over the newer ones. I think the term "genwunner" is really just an excuse to be elitest.

1, 2, and 3 were the best generations imo, and are definitely my favorites. I've replayed Ruby more than any other, though it probably helps that a dry battery doesn't ruin save files like the other games. Also, permanent pokerus lolol.

I didn't like gen 4 when it came out, but I've slowly come around since-- mostly for boss pokemon like Drapion and Honchkrow. Skorupi is adorable. HG and SS are some of the best games of the franchise, I hope gen 3 remakes follow the same pattern of mixing old and new =)

It's true, you can like the first games best. The complaint about newer Pokemon not being "Pokemon-y enough" is incredibly silly though, and the most so when applied to Gen 2.

I love Gen 3 and 4 (gen 3 because of Rayquaza/Skitty and gen 4 because of Leafeon/Lucario/Glameow/. f you can't guess, I love the cat pokemons.) but I am also a fan of 1&2.

If I had to say, I would say that after Gen 4, pokemon stated to go down. I mean seriously an Ice cream pokemon and evolutions of it?

When sixth gen comes out everyone will be talking about how sixth gen is the decline of Pokemon and wishing we had good ones like (insert fifth gen Pokemon here).

First gen had it's share of weird, bad designs too. I don't know what that family gets so much hate when there have always been designs like that.

I'm happy to say that I've played all gens so far (and every game in each gen- including the exclusive Japanese ones) and my favorites are probably going to be the Gen2 ones. Specifically Silver. Something about that one just... made me more happy than the others. I dunno why. It just did.

I've been going through lately and looking back on the older Gen 1 games i found in my house (I don't understand how I don't loose those but I loose Soul Silver... and Platinum...) and musing on nicknames I gave my pokemon (for some reason I have about 30 lvl 100 Magikarps all named after random people I know... and about 5 are my family and cousins... and pets) and wondering when I stopped giving them names. I found that after Crystal, I stopped giving names to everything and just went with chucking pokeballs at everything I could find (why else would my boxes be full to the brim with clusters of the same pokemon and I still have 99+ pokeballs! Yes pokeballs! left xd.png ).

Once I started Ruby I seemed to be more aware of what I was throwing stuff at... I still ended up with 99+ pokeballs on all three of Gen 3's games though xd.png only two boxes are full-up in all three of them for whatever reason... and Emerald is hoarding my Shiny Tenacruel and Shiny Zigzagoon along with the Shiny Electrike I was so close to killing after having gone through practically 80 fights of leveling with those dogs.

The remakes of Silver and Gold haven't quite been touched too much. HG only was touched more often now because I lost SS somewhere with my Platinum game... been that way for 3 years now I think.

Peal, Diamond and Platinum were all played equally until I decided to go Legend-Crazy and started trading over any Legends I might've had to my Platinum game... only to loose it. :/

So yeah.... I might only be "younger" but I have Pokemon running through my blood still. I'm still playing to this day biggrin.gif

Gen IV was my least favorite (well, D/P/P was) and I considered Gen V to be a vast improvement.

And I like the Vanilluxe family very much :I

Gen II is my favorite though simply because I really like Johto and also it was the one I played the most while I was younger. I played Gen III quite a bit too, but I didn't like the music in that one as much and the huge amount of surfing without being able to tell where I was going a lot of the time kind of bothered me. :N

Since Emerald was my first Pokemon game, it has remained a high favorite smile.gif I really enjoy the other 3rd series games, like Crystal and Platinum as well. HeartGold/SoulSilver are also some of my absolute favorites (it's crazy that they're selling preowned at Gamestop for their original New price!...just bought another HG the other day, heh). Gen 5 is definitely a favorite as well.

I really just enjoy all of them. However, if I had to pick a game I just didn't like very much, it's probably the first gen games and the first gen remakes. I've played FireRed and Red/Blue many times, but compared to the other games, I just don't enjoy them as much. I don't find their stories and challenges as fun and unique as the other games.

I don't have a favorite generation in terms of which pokemon were created when, since I have favorites and those I don't like at all in every generation.

@7Deadly$ins - You have a good point. Maybe it's just because I haven't played the fifth generation as much as I have the third and fourth. I know on my old emerald game I had collected every pokemon, multiple shinies, and almost got to the time limit. (999 hours or something)

*Sigh* Too bad I had to sell those when a little twerp I was watching broke my DS... and to think that I had an actual Arceus on my platinum which wiped out the elite four on it's own...

Yeah, as you play the games you slowly start to realize there's a strategy to it and you become more organized and try to get pokemon on your team that are not only "cool looking" but powerful too.

People seem to think that pokemon is a game for only little kids, but once you realize that it is a strategy game with many secrets and so much to do, you realize that it is an insanely fun game for all ages. Too bad there has yet to be a game where you can travel to all four regions. I like Johto just because it allows you to go to two regions...

THEY REALLY NEED TO MAKE A GAME WITH ALL FOUR REGIONS!!!

I don't really know if there's space on the game pack for all five (soon to be six) regions, though.

Yeah... Well maybe they will eventually find a solution to that problem, because unfortunately they will probably never make it onto a non-handheld system like they did with the GameCube or Wii.

There is indeed nothing wrong with preferring the originals over the later ones. I just think the reasoning can be pretty silly. Just admit it - it's because of nostalgia. >_>

wattson i hate you i hate you so much since when have you been this hard =| I took down all of his except for his Magneton, which he proceeded to use a super potion on. Alas, this is what happens when you pick your Pokemon depending on which ones you like rather than for actual type strategies. Eventually, I'll get it...

eventually

I don't disagree there, especially since quite a few of gen 2's designs were brainstormed in gen 1-- from what I understand.

Zovesta, the worst part about Wattson is that right after you beat him, you gain access to a bajillion Magnemite counters-- Numel, Machop, Slugma, Torkoal, Sandshrew...

And you just know the developers did that on purpose =p

I know right hmgfds Magnemite/ton you have earned my loathing.

Just beat Norman though. Norman took down only one of my pokemon, and I wiped out Flannery pretty easily. And all of this only makes me hate Wattson more.

you fat sonova...

I love all the games, though I never played any of the 4th gen games. Just wasn't interested, I really didn't like the pokemon in them and the recycling of old pokemon for new evolutions and such. Though there really isn't a game I don't like, I especially like the Mystery Dungeon games. <3

So, I just named my Giratina Azazel, and I feel like it's the best decision I've ever made.

He's level 16 and super cute c8

I'm replaying Pokemon Diamond for the first time in years. I'm mainly doing to catch and raise a Murkrow, and to get a Happiny Egg. I LOVE Honchkrow, it's weak defensively, but hits so hard.
