Greetings friend! And welcome to my thread! Please Feel free to critique things, I'm always willing to hear how I can improve ^^

First things first, examples of what I can do.

My deviantART page is Here

As well as my Twitter (Which is updated more often)

However: My Sprites have only ever been posted here so here's some examples of them ^^

I recently did this little animated thing, with a character design I bought off of someone ^^ I'm fairly proud of it!

Current Project: 100 Pixel Paintings

I've challenged myself to paint 100, 100 x 100 Pixel Paintings and put them into a collage on a 1000 x 1000 canvas. Please feel free to add ideas of paintings you'd like to see. My main focus will be scenery and not so much characters/animals/people.

Current Project Status: 6 out of 100 Completed

Ahh! These are cute.

I do have some crits though. c:

On the first guy, be wary of the foot anatomy. Looking up references can really help. Also watch out for jaggies-- even in lineless pieces.

I really love the textures and shading in your first piece though. Very nice. I wouldn't make them pop anymore than they already do~

As for the second one, you'll want to make your lines continuous across the whole piece for coherency's sake. Also do avoid pillow shading. Your first piece is shaded really well but the second one gets a bit pillowy.

Most of my "mini picture-guide to spriting" doesn't apply, but the first two do. See the smooth line vs the jagged one? You wanna aim for the smooth continuous line in lineless pieces and lined.

This explains these a lot better than I ever could.

Over all my crits are very technical things, easy to fix with time and practice. You've already got a nice touch to your sprites. Overall you're off to a great start-- I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread. thumbs_up.png

Hey there! I'm really excited to see your Original Works thread so fast. o3o

First, I wanna say, that even though this is in Dragon Requests (because that's what it was written for), there is a spriting guide that links to a lot of different tutorials. I would suggest you make use of any of those that you find relevant to your stuff. Just always good to have references, and we compiled some specifically for spriting!

That being said, onto your art! What you've done so far is very cute! And it's looking great! I mean, are those really some of your first sprites? =o

Belentara is a really cool little creature for you to experiment with! There are some anatomy issues, but you said this was more of a shading exercise, so I'm going to focus any crit there. The shading is definitely a great start. I think you chose shades really well. They're not so far apart they don't sorta blend and they're not so close together you can't see them. I have two suggestions for how to continue shading. First is I think you could add another shade on the body, which will give you more room to emphasize different features and details. The second is that right now, your shading is kind of pillowed, so basically, instead of your shading following muscle definition and interacting with the body itself (creating new shadows and determining places of highlight), your shading more follows just the outline of the body. This is how you can make details pop (is your dragon furry? That will change how light interacts with its body, compared to if it were scaly or whatever else). The best suggestion I have for this is to just study other sprites, as well as just messing around with real world stuff, using different light sources and playing around with different shapes. Crumple up paper and move it around under light, seeing how light interplays with crinkles in it. Hold your hand under different shades of light and move it around and see how the shadows change. Etc. For sprites, look around at some DC dragon sprites (stick with more recent ones from the past few years. Some of the very earlier sprites were by spriters still learning, just like you, so they're not as detailed or advanced). But mostly, just keep practicing! You're off to a good start. Don't be afraid to play around with it and just try new things. =)

Aomidori - I love him, too! How adorable! I really love that teal color you chose. Just beautiful. The lining is really good, too! You seem to have a really good grasp on creating smooth curves, which can definitely take a bit of practice. I just have two small tips for you. The first is to consistently follow through on your lines. You have some spots where you left out pixels, and I think this might have been an artistic choice? But it didn't translate super great with choosing such small pixel amounts to leave out. Instead of a simplistic or stylistically defined look, it makes the lining look a little jagged. The second tip is to stick with one pixel thick lines. On some places on the head and leg, you have lines that are several pixels thick. Again, I think this was probably a stylistic choice, but instead of giving the art a cute, sketchy look, it again makes lines appear kind of jagged. ^^

Overall, what an amazing start to spriting, though! Your examples so far are really cute. I can't wait to see more stuff from you. <3

Btw, love the avvie! Did you create that?

Also what is an awie? If it's the scroll thing, then yes I made it myself. I also drew my avatar? It's Aomidori's human design, and a frame in an animation I tried doing with him X3

Avvie (two v's, not a w) is a shortening for avatar. =)

Did you manage the animation? =o

Oh that makes sense xd.png Umm, I haven't finished it yet. I started it a couple weeks ago and kinda took a break. I'm gonna pick it back up soon though ^^

I clicked your Art Shop link and it linked me here and I wanted to first make sure I could indeed request/ buy art here? I absolutely adore your style and sprites. tongue.gif

Second thing: If above is true, what is your price/ accepted payment/ etc.? biggrin.gif

@RavenWolf1010

I don't necessarily have a set price 'cause I realized DC doesn't have much of a payment. I can take eggs as payment though. Atm I want literally any of the Zyumorph if you have an egg to spare? I'm also a sunsong addict so I take those too. If it's something simple that you want don't even bother with payment. I have a lot of fun with these things x3
