Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) I have searched through pages upon pages of results, and what surprised me was that I found nothing. So here goes: Lyrics to a song that have stuck with you. Or maybe lines to a poem. Like, if it describes you, your life, how you feel or whether it just... sticks. Here's one for me. Kongos "come with me now": "I tried to sell my soul last night Funny, he wouldn't even take a bite" Edited January 19, 2019 by broadway_fiend Share this post Link to post

Posted February 8, 2015 "Stellar" by Incubus: "Meet me in outer space I will hold you close if you're afraid of heights." It always gives me warm, fuzzy feelings The lyrics to "If I Ever Feel Better" by Phoenix have always been helpful too if I'm feeling down, or know someone who struggles emotionally. Gosh, so many songs... Share this post Link to post

Posted February 10, 2015 "We keep falling for the lure of liquid confidence and lies And we skydive from walls we've built Diving just to feel alive... On the way down screaming: If all we have is time then we'll be alright It's not much but it's better than nothing Running on fumes but we'll make it through the night It's not love but it's better than dreaming." - "Fumes" by The Eden Project Share this post Link to post
Posted March 9, 2015 Everybody's lookin' for some way in, I'm lookin' for some way out. I've been wastin' my time standin' in line If this is what it's all about. All I got is a job that I don't like And a woman that don't understand. So tonight at the bar, I'll get in my car And take off for the promise land. Drinkin' and dreamin' Knowin' damn well I can't go. I'll never see Texas, L.A., or Old Mexico. But here at this table, I'm able to leave it behind. Drink 'til I'm dreamin', a thousand miles out of my mind. "This suit and this tie, is just a disguise. This ain't really me. Some people are born, to be tied down, Some people are born to be free. When I look down the road she don't know How it gets under my skin. She's got my body but my heart and soul Are out there ridin' the wind. Drinkin' and dreamin' Knowin' damn well I can't go. I'll never see Texas, L.A., or Old Mexico. But here at this table, I'm able to leave it behind. Drink 'til I'm dreamin', a thousand miles out of my mind. Drinkin' and dreamin' Knowin' damn well I can't go. I'll never see Texas, L.A., or Old Mexico. But here at this table, I'm able to leave it behind. Drink 'til I'm dreamin', a thousand miles out of my mind." Drinkin' and Dreamin' - Waylon Jennings Share this post Link to post
Posted March 9, 2015 I can't get "Battleships" from Daughtry out of my head. "And the cannon goes, Boom ba-boom boom, boom boom boom. Boom ba-boom boom boom!" "But we stick to our guns and we love like battleships! Like battleships!" Mainly those lyrics, but the whole song really. It's great, but when you wake up in the middle of the night humming the tune it raises a few eye brows. Share this post Link to post

'Cause baby now we got bad blood You know it used to be mad love So take a look at what you've done 'Cause baby now we got bad blood (Hey!) Posted June 6, 2015 The lyrics to round and round by imagine dragons have always reflected with me--Esp this line: "We are afflicted by fiction (by fiction) Building a case for eviction (eviction) Circling (oh oh, oh oh) Guarding a tower of ancients (of ancients) Shooting down arrows of patience (of patience) And patiently circling (oh oh, oh oh)" Gravity by Nico Vega is a good one as well. Posted July 28, 2015 I've been listening to some songs by Dido over and over for the past few months. These lines have stood out to me: "I felt the same today as I was feeling yesterday It'll be the same tomorrow from then on it won't change." "A move not made, one made too late Armies of words cannot hope to contain That it comes and it goes and I can't seem to hold And there's nothing I own and it breaks me when it goes" "And you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness, But I promise you you'll see the sun again." Posted July 28, 2015 (edited) Some songs that have been playing on repeat. Steven Universe-Better off with her "Maybe you're better off with her. I think she's better for you. I had to use you to make me feel strong. Is there something I can do? Can I make it up to you?" Dj snake- You know you like it "I should be happy no tipping the scales. I'm no fool now I'm not follower. Life can be cruel if you're dreamer. You know you like it but you're scared of the shame. What you want what you gonna do? There's no need to be so damn cruel. I don't take things as they come if they bring me down I just wanna have some fun don't tell me me what could be done. Only cuz you know that you wanna feel the same." 2am club- Faster babe "Ain't no looking back my baby. They wanna fight well I be warning them but I'm not the one to defend. You don't gotta lie just keep going faster babe. I'm on your side. Ain't no turning back my baby. Put your tears away, ain't no fear today. " Boyinaband- Spectrum "She loved her like that. But telling her family they might snap. So confined she couldn't confide. She had an answer but she didn't ask for this. If she discussed it they be disgusted, disown her and that be disasterous. They thought that she was smiling but they misidentified because the clenching of her teeth was her biting on the lie. YOU LOVE HER . Don't ever feel you should apologize, can't control your feelings or compromise. " The Killers- When you were young "You sit there in your heartache waiting on some beautiful boy to save you from your old ways. You pray forgiveness watch him now here he comes. He doesn't look a thing like jesus but he talks like a gentleman like you imagined when you were young. And sometimes you close your eyes and you can see the place where you used to live when you were young. They say the devils water it ain't so sweet you don't have to drink right now. But you can dip your feet every once in a little while." Florence and the machine- What kind of man "You were on the other side like always you can never make your mind. What kind of man loves like this? To let me dangle at cruel angle while my feet don't touch floor. Sometimes you're half in and sometimes you're half out but you never close the door. You do so such damage. And with one kiss you inspire a fire out of the ocean. What kind man loves like this? Oh mercy I implore. Back against the wall." Owl City- Kamikaze "The princess in her flower bed pulled a jungle underground. Where cherry bombs stain the black birds red and explosions never make a sound. I'm not afraid to die alone." Steven Universe- Stronger than you "Go ahead and try to hit me if you're able. I am made of loooooove and it's stronger than you. " Calvin harris- Under control "I love you, you'll never know. A lone fool out in the sun. Your heartbeat of solid gold. I might be anyone. When the daylight comes you feel so cold, you know. Because freedom is a lonely rule. We're under control. I'm too afraid of my heart to let you go." Soundgarden- blackhole sun "Beneath the black, the sky looks dead. And I'll hear you scream again. Blackhole sun won't you come and wash away the rain? In my youth I pray to keep. No one sings like you anymore. Hang my head, drown my fears until you all just disappear." Rise against- September's children "Bang bang on the coffin nails like a breathe exhale and then gone forever. Push me and I'll push back. What god would damn a heart? Bang bang from the closet walls. I'm done asking, I demand. Born free but still they hate. The cold river washing away. But how could we forget. And too much blood has flown from the wrists of children shamed for those they chose to kiss." Kings of leon- Revelry 'With the fire in my bones and the sweet taste of kerosene. See the time we shared it was precious to me, all the while I was dreaming of revelry. " Steven Universe- Sworn to the sword 'Deep down you know you weren't meant for fighting. But that doesn't mean you're not prepared to try. What they don't know is your real advantage. When you live for someone you're prepared to die." Posted July 28, 2015 Ooh, I like this thread. I've been thinking about this so much lately, how some lines in songs just grab me for unknown reasons. Most of mine are from songs by Brand New. Their lyrics just do things to me. "My bright is too slight to hold back all my dark / And the ship went down in sight of land" - Jesus Christ by Brand New "Call me a safe bet / I'm betting I'm not" and "You are second-hand smoke" - The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot by Brand New "Say I don't mind you under my skin / I'll let the bad parts in, the bad parts in" - Degausser by Brand New "I'm an old abandoned church with broken pews and empty aisles" and "Oh, I would kill for the Atlantic, but I am paid to make girls panic while I sing" - I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light by Brand New "I’m your carnal flower, I’m your bloody rose / Pick my petals off and make my heart explode" - Froot by Marina and the Diamonds "Kissed teeth stained red from a sour bottle baby girl with eyes the size of baby worlds" - I'm Like a Lawyer... by Fall Out Boy I don't know why I love this line so much. Probably just the way Patrick Stump sings it. The entire lyrics of "No. 1 Party Anthem" by Arctic Monkeys. *_* Also "Solitaire" by Marina and the Diamonds. Share this post Link to post
Posted July 31, 2015 Dance, dance by fall out boy "She says that I'm no good with words that I'm worse. I'm two quarters of a heart and I don't want to forget how your voice sounds." Princess of China, by Coldplay and Rihanna "All we ever seem to do is fight. Once upon a time on the same side. Could have been a princess you'd be the king. But nooooo, you let me go. You're still my star." Cigarette daydreams by cage the elephant "Did you stand there all alone? I can see you standing next to me in and out somewhere else right now. You sigh look away. I can see it clear as day. Close your eyes, so afraid. Hide behind your baby face. You can drive all night looking for the answers in the pouring rain Wanna find peace of mind looking for the answers. Funny how it seems like yesterday. As I recall you were looking out of place. Gathered up your things and slipped away. No time at all I follow you out into the hall. Cigarette daydreams you were only 17." Plastic Soul by unknown "You're getting big. You're wanting more. You're hiding behind your plastic soul. Screaming out loud, gimme it now. I don't have a doubt who's in control." Share this post Link to post
Posted July 31, 2015 Probably "All' alba sorgerò" by Serena Autieri (the Italian version of Frozen's "Let it go"): "A volte è un bene, poter scappare un po’, può sembrare un salto enorme, ma io lo affronterò. Non è un difetto, è una virtù, e non la fermerò mai più. Nessun ostacolo per me, perché… …d’ora in poi troverò la mia vera identità, e vivrò, sì, vivrò, per sempre in libertà. Se è qui il posto mio, io lo scoprirò." or, if translated to English "Sometimes it can be god to be able to escape it could be an enormous jump but I'll confront it It's not a defect, it's a virtue and I won't close it in no more there is no obstacle for me, because... ... from now on I will find my true identity and I'll live, yes, I'll live forever in freedom If my place is here, I will find it out." This is my favourite version of the song, it's just so poetic and Italian is a divine language. Plus, I love the song itself because I relate so painfully much, but it's OK, I guess. The entire song is stuck in my head, but these are my favourite parts. Share this post Link to post
Posted August 1, 2015 Cailin by Unwritten law "Hey little girl look at what you do. I love you." Dollar Signs by Calvin Harris "You running out of time. You lose your mind you lose your ****ing mind. You close your eyes you seeing dollar signs. They say love is the answer. But all you see is dollar signs. Feeling like running away. Stressing about something all day. Love is something vicious still it isn't right seeing all them secrets in your eyes." Can't stop by the red hot chili peppers "In time I want to be your bestfriend. Go write your message on the pavement. Complete the motion if you stumble. The world I love. The tears I dropped to be part of the way it can't stop. Ever wonder if its all for you? Music the great communicater. Can't the stop the spirits when I need you. Wait a minute I'm passing out win or lose. Just like you. Right on cue.Choose not the life of imitation. Your image in the dictionary. This life is more than ordinary. This life is more than just a redo." Share this post Link to post
Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) With shoes worth a couple hundred, padded jacket worth a couple thousand With a watch worth a couple hundred, you feel good about yourself Education goes over the hill and the student identity goes over the hill too The class system of the 21st century is divided into two Those who have and those who haven’t Those who wear the shoes and those who don’t Those who have the clothes and those who don’t And those who try hard to get those things What’s going on? Are you falling behind on the trend? You whined and complained to get it, did I strike a nerve? In the padded jacket, your greed fills it up Even after seeing your parents’ curved spines, you’re so coldhearted You complain that all your friends have it and that they should buy it for you (Ayo baby) stop being so immature You won’t freeze just because you don’t have that jacket Fill your head with good sense before it’s too late *By "your parents' curved spines" it means "Breaking your parent's back" Edited August 1, 2015 by Eclipseheart Share this post Link to post
Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) Empty by Metric "There's no way out the only way out is to give in. When there's no way out the only way out is to give in. How I love to, how I love to, how I love to give in. Here no one sleeps. Where no one sleeps. Couldn't see what was coming. Shake your head it's empty. Shake your hips move your feet. Sickness is fixing me some. I'm so glad that I'm an island. I'm so glad that I'm an island now. Coughed out my heart in the last stall. Now that the damage is done, I never miss it at all." Catfish and the bottle men - Cocoon "Like a drunk who's been on it all morning and the sun's up. I remember when we swapped names and I thought maybe you stay. Your friends all hated. Depending on me again." Egoist- Monster without a name "I was born behind black iron bars." Share this post Link to post
Posted August 12, 2015 Jambalaya---The Carpenters "Jambalaya and a Crawfish pie and fillet gumbo. Cause tonight, I'm gonna see my ma cher a mi-o Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-o Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou " No idea why, it's been years since I heard this song and yet if I see or hear anything similar to the lyrics it immediately comes back clear as day. It remains one of my favorite songs though. I don't understand half of the lyrics but it's fun to sing. Share this post Link to post
