The Allure of Neglected Dragons

Recommended Posts

1: Do you want to see the gender of the adult you're tracking?

Yes I'd like to see the gender.

2A: Do you want to see only a list of which mates refused?

2B: Or a list of refusals, plus the current mate and the result of their latest breeding attempt?

2C: Or do you want a list of all mates?

All would be useful. Maybe you can have a checkbox for all or just B and C?

3: If you want a list of all mates (2C), how should the result be shown?

3A: Only the most recent outcome with each mate?

3B: Save all results, giving you a running list of each recorded breeding attempt?

3C: Or with a sliding scale where you work up to having an egg eventually?

For example: Attempt 1, you get no interest, so that result is saved. Attempt 2, they breed, but don't produce an egg. That is closer to an egg than no interest, so it overwrites the previous result. Attempt 3, they again show no interest, but since they bred once, this latest result is ignored in favor of Attempt 2's result. Attempt 4, they finally breed an egg, so that result is saved, and from now on, that's what those two dragons will show, since it has happened at least once.

3D: Some other way entirely? If you have other ideas/preferences, let me know that as well, and maybe I'll be able to work them into one ideal solution.

A or checkbox for A and B.

4A: If you want to track whether or not an egg was produced, do you only want to know that one was/wasn't?

4B: Or do you also want to know the breed and/or code?

The breed and the code.

5A: Do you want to have all of your recorded dragons showing at once? Depending on the choices for questions 2 and 3, this could quickly grow very long.

5B: Or would you rather be able to pull up each individual dragon's info as you need it, one at a time?

Not sure... For some, it would definitely get very long. Maybe it can be all or individual the first time you use it, but you can have the option to group dragons together for the next time you use it? For example if you have ten dragons and only breed four of them, really, then group the four in one group and the other six in another. Of course if groups were actually implemented in the cave you can just have an option to use those if the user has actually sorted their dragons into groups on their scrolls.

6+: Is there anything else a breeding tracker should have?

All seems good.

For the Breed Tracker:

  • 1: Do you want to see the gender of the adult you're tracking?

So far, I have one vote sure, one vote don't bother, and one vote neutral. That's not much to go on.

  • 2A: Do you want to see only a list of which mates refused?

2B: Or a list of refusals, plus the current mate and the result of their latest breeding attempt?

2C: Or do you want a list of all mates?

  • 3: If you want a list of all mates (2C), how should the result be shown?
    • 3A: Only the most recent outcome with each mate?
    • 3B: Save all results, giving you a running list of each recorded breeding attempt?
    • 3C: Or with a sliding scale where you work up to having an egg eventually?

For example: Attempt 1, you get no interest, so that result is saved. Attempt 2, they breed, but don't produce an egg. That is closer to an egg than no interest, so it overwrites the previous result. Please share your ideas and desires! I need to know what you would like to see, what you would find useful! The more details you give me, the better the resulting tracker will be.

Breed Tracker Questions:

1) The ability to sort by gender, or to at least see the gender is a must for me.

2) I hate to say this, but Options, options, options. And I code, so I know the Beach you are laying on.

3) Listing all mates, shown by the order they appear in the scroll you are taking them from (or the page)

3A) as an option. I am a detail junkie.

3B) YES!!!

3C) MURR? this question does not compute with my brain. I ignore.

*continues reading* Oh. Yeah, that would work.

3D) I don't have much experience breeding, (have bred ONE egg) so I can't really comment.

4A) No, I want to know which parent it was like (if applicable).

4B) the code would be nice to track my chitlings.

5A) No, a few at a time, especially if they are heavy breeders would be fine. Just so long as I can easily page through them.

5B) A click~list would be good, then click to next page on each as I wanted to view them.

6) I know there are those who keep stats of such, so possibly add in a "What do you think will happen if I breed X and Y?" fun thing would be cool.

I keep going to the add dragons page and ALL my eggs and hatchlings are NOT in the site. This happened today when I added ALL of my eggs last night! Is this a bug with the hatchery or is someone removing my eggs?

It's annoying mainly because the lack of views from the times they're not in the hatchery when I think they are in. It means that they have to spend longer in the ER, over half an hour rather than a short period of time to get a few more views.

I haven't seen or heard any other complaints about the site having a bug like this. Given that technology is what it is, anything is possible, but it shouldn't be consistent or long-lasting if it's just the internet flaking out. So if this has happened multiple times, unfortunately, it probably is someone pulling them out. sad.gif

I use this site daily, and don't normally have any problem, but lately it seems some are getting removed when I intend to keep them in.  How could this be happening?

It seems to happen more with the 6d 12h and under hatchlings, when I'm trying to get them to gender.  dry.gif

Sorry bbik, judging by this post on this page I'm not the only one with this problem. x3

It's been happening sporadically with me for a while, not sure how long, it's just gotten annoying enough recently that I've decided to comment. Perhaps there are other people experiencing it who haven't been annoyed enough to comment, so if a question is posed more people will come forward.

And with me it isn't just a glitch with adding the dragons where everything is removed instead. Occasionally it happens after I've added brand new eggs and when I come back they have views but when I go to add some more new eggs everything is unchecked, meaning whatever happened happened at least a few hours after the eggs were added, which makes me think it is either a deliberate act by a total jerk or a site glitch. Perhaps I should start hiding my scroll between adding dragons to rule out the former.

Secondarily you might consider adding a password system. Easy to set up for the user, just enter the DC username and a password. That would prevent unauthorized modification.

I like this mini password suggestion.

An idea for this instead of setting up passwords is having it similar to Eggs around the world where you must log in to dragcave if you wish to enter your dragons. It could even be set up with cookies so that people don't have to constantly reenter their password if theyre going to be re entering their dragons.

Eggs around the world doesn't require any type of password to enter dragons on their site (I think the market place for trading does though).

I need to dash off to work momentarily, but...

That post was over a month ago, so if it's a random server glitch somewhere or someone removing dragons from the site, it's unlikely to be related. If it's actually all one common problem this much later, and it's just affecting most people too little to worry about it, I have no idea. There is absolutely no reason for it to be a time-based thing, though, whether time left on dragons or time in the site. If there's a larger pattern there, then it's something outside of my control -- the code certainly isn't written to do anything like that, and it hasn't been changed in ages, either, so there's no reason for it to start reacting that way now. Hiding your scroll, inconvenient though that is, might be the best route at this point. Do let me know if it's still happening even then, just keep in mind that I don't know where to look if it is.

Is there any chance you've been temporarily fogging your dragons after you add them? That can remove them, if AoND checks them while they're fogged. And it could seem inconsistent, too, since high-time dragons don't actually get checked unless a user does so on the homepage -- which means that high-time fogged dragons may or may not be removed, depending on if someone cleans them out or not.

Secondarily you might consider adding a password system.  Easy to set up for the user, just enter the DC username and a password.  That would prevent unauthorized modification.

I actually have had a few ideas floating around about how to do this, and would like to implement it as an optional feature. The problem is time -- I don't have much of it right now. As soon as I can find some, there will be several major overhauls to the site, some more obvious than others. But until then, all but the most basic changes are unfortunately at a standstill.

I never fog my dragons, especially when they get sick soon after I add them since I know they will get better even if they continue to get views.

And this was most likely happening to me when the other post was posted. That post also seemed to refer to a chronic problem, not a single time of dragon removal, just like mine.

That's what I meant, except not for a market place.

I wanted to add my scroll to this site, as I always do, and it forwarded me to another page where I got this message:

"NOTICE: This domain name expired on 06/20/2012 and is pending renewal or deletion.

coup-detat.info"

O.O

Can this be? >.>

I got that error too! At first I thought it was the same thing as if you typed in coup-detat.info only into the URL bar, but even after clicking the link from Google, I got that message... I wanted to use the lineage viewer... sad.gif

Suddenly, now that AoND is down, I feel the most urgent need to use all of their features. NOW. Even features I've never needed to use before! Stupid human nature. xd.png

Seriously though, I do use that site, a lot. I hope it's back up and running soon.

Sorry everyone.

I have been super busy the last couple of months getting my house ready to sell and everything packed up to move.

B/c I changed banks the auto renewal did not work. I have just renewed the site, so it should be up and running soon.

I will give everyone a heads up now ... the server renewal will be up in August, so I will be talking to bbik about placing the donate button message back up.
