This purpose of this thread is to provide people a place to post about eggs that were lost during the trading process. However, to use this thread, you MUST read the following post in it’s entirety - no matter how boring it may seem. And believe me, I know it's not exciting, because I wrote it. It wasn’t a barrel of laughs to write and it probably won’t be to read it. But you only have to do it once unless you see that the thread has been updated (which I’m generally too lazy to do often). Not doing so can get you banned from this thread, so consider the matter carefully.



Exciting news about egg replacement –

The Replacement Project is up and running!

Quote from the thread – “The purpose of this project is to do a little good by replacing dragons that have been lost in the process of gifting or trading. Our “replacers”, when they are willing to do so, will breed or offer a replacement dragon for one that was lost”.

If you’re willing to accept a replacement egg, I urge you to go and check out this thread. But please read their rules and conditions, listed in the first post!

Also, I know that people who were trading lineage dragons rarely accept replacements because the dragon's ancestry was the purpose in obtaining the dragon. I would suggest, however, that those people may also want to check out the thread as there are many people willing to replace and I have seen people mention that they can breed Dorkfaces, so there may very well be replacers with the lineage of the lost dragon.

But do post here, also, as it is a requirement of that thread that the lost trade is posted here first to demonstrate an effort to find the egg.



The Lost in Trade is a listing thread. Nothing more. As such, there is now a format similar to those used in other listing threads. It may be a pain, but we need you to use this format. Not only does it help people who are looking through the thread to more easily identify if they’ve found a lost egg, but it makes it immensely easier for the moderators of this thread who have to read every post.


Format for posting lost eggs/hatchlings:

STATUS: Lost
TYPE: Egg/Hatchling
BREED: Breed type
CODE: (code of egg – MUST BE ALTERED – SEE RULE 2)
TIME: (when lost)
SENDER: (who sent the egg)
RECIEVER: (if you want to say who the egg was for)
PLEASE PM: (whoever you would like contacted in this matter)
OFFER FOR RETURN: (This is completely optional. However, if you are offering something for the return of the egg/hatchling, place that info here)


Format for posting found eggs/hatchlings:

STATUS: Found
CODE: (code of egg – MUST BE ALTERED – SEE RULE 2)
TIME: (when found)
State the information that you would like PMed to you as proof.

If you have found an egg/hatchling and would like to list it, please use the above format. It is suggested that you fog the egg and only provide the altered code. That way people can PM you with the breed of the egg and, possibly, info such as the parents or the date laid/stolen, etc.


Rules

1) Trading is an unofficial part of this game -

Please bear in mind that once a player abandons an egg, anyone is free to pick it up, regardless of the previous owner’s intention. There is no obligation on anyone’s part to return an egg/hatchling, to check this thread, or to respond to inquiries about it.

2) Posting the dragon’s code –

When you post the code of the dragon that you lost, either change the capitalization of the code or use asterisks to hide some of the letters. Not doing so may result in the egg/hatchling getting too many clicks from curious people and becoming sick or even dying.

Original code: SgyG could be posted as sgyg or SGYG

3) Posting the name of the egg/hatchling’s current owner -

If a person has turned on the option to identify themselves on their dragon’s pages, that information is no longer to be posted here.

Sorry, but we gave this a try and all it’s done is end in accusations, insults, and off topic posting. The resulting uproar makes it difficult to find legitimate posts, it spills drama into other parts of the forum.

Using this new feature in this thread is not likely to measurably increase your chances of making contact, but it has been shown to cause problems and prompt users to turn off what was meant to be a fun option.

4) Be polite -

I had assumed that people would be polite simply because they were asking another person to relinquish an egg/hatchling that was fairly caught. However, as that isn’t always the case, I would remind everyone of the Dragon Cave forum rule –

Respect Others
It isn't possible to get far in the world if you refuse to respect others. Treat others kindly, don't insult them, and others will do the same in return. If you refuse to treat others well, then you will get not only a warning, but a bad reputation, which opens the door for more negativity.

Also, chances are that if the egg/hatchling in question is returned it will be by someone on this forum. Most members who have discussed the topic of lot trades here have been quite clear that they generally choose not to deal with people who are rude, abusive, or accusatory about the egg that was lost. As long as you’re respectful, you can have any kind of attitude you want about the lost egg/hatchling. However, it’s worth remembering that how you come across when posting here may make all the difference when it comes to retrieving the egg.

5) Don’t bump your post –

I understand the urge, honestly. But if everyone bumps their post then the current posts get bumped off of the page and it makes it harder for people to use the thread and harder to moderate.

Frankly, if someone finds a lost egg the day before, but couldn’t check the LiT thread for a day or so, they’re going to look at the posts dates and go back to the ones that are around the time that they found the egg, so there’s little point in bumping.

6) Auto-abandoned eggs, mistakenly manually abandoned eggs, and generally abandoned eggs –

Please do no use this thread as a way to get back eggs that auto-abandoned after you bred and kept one. There is a reason that everyone is only allowed to keep one egg from a clutch and it has been made clear that we are not supposed to attempt to get around that rule. Using this thread for such a purpose could very well get it locked.

This is also not the place to look for eggs that were mistakenly abandoned. Again, this thread is simply for eggs lost while trading.

Finally, please do not use this thread as a way to find out who has adopted your abandoned eggs. That is not the purpose of this thread and there are other resources out there for such searches.

7) Players without forum accounts -

Most DC players do not have a forum account. If you do not hear from the new owner of the egg/hatchling, there is an extremely high probability that they don’t come here and have never heard of this thread.

8) Replacement eggs –

As stated at the beginning of this thread, replacement eggs may be provided to people who have lost trades via The Replacement Project.

However, if you are only looking for the return of a specific egg/hatchling and not a replacement, you may wish to include that or, if not, to let people know that who contact you by PM with such an offer.

9) Asking forum moderators to help facilitate the return of an egg/hatchling –

Do not contact the mods about trades gone wrong. Trading is not an official part of this game and is attempted at your own risk. The mods do not mediate these issues, nor will they attempt to help you retrieve lost eggs/hatchlings or identify their new owners.

9) Rule violation -

Breaking these rules will result in a response or a PM from those that were kind enough to volunteer to monitor this thread. Constant disruption or abuse of this thread will get you reported to a forum moderator and banned from using this thread.

Seriously guys, we don’t want to make some kind of blacklist on this thread. Please don’t push it until we have to.
