Only post here after you have read the guide. The only time you should post is if you don't understand the guide or if it doesn't answer your question.

Term Key:
user posted image
(image is to show the terms in context and shows an example of a healthy ratio, this is of a dragon of mine that safely grew up)
Views: Every time the image of the egg is loaded a view is added.
Unique Views: Similar to views, but only one unique view is registered per IP.
Clicks: Only one click is registered per IP, they are registered when someone clicks the provided link and views your egg's page.

Basic questions about sickness:

Q: Can my egg or hatchling die of soft shell/hatchling sickness?
A:
Yes, that's why it is called a sickness and there is a guide on how to cure it.

Q: My hatchling is sick. How do I cure it?
A:
Read the guide. Hatchling sickness is the same as egg sickness.

Q: Can an egg hatch/a hatching grow up while it has the disease?
A:
Yes, but you still want to try to cure it to prevent the dragon from dying from the disease before it hatches/grows up.

Q: I froze a sick hatchling. Will it die? Will it get better?
A:
Frozen hatchlings act like adults in that they do not die unless you kill them. It will most likely eventually get better, but there is no harm if it doesn't.

Q: My hatchling is sick and it isn't getting better!!
A:
If it has more than 1000 unique views it has more than enough views etc to grow up and it just waiting on time. (Mine grow just fine with 700 unique) Remove the hatchling from everywhere you have it posted and fog it if you like. Repost it if it gets below 3 days without maturing, but remember that it has to be unfogged to mature.

Soft shell and hatchling sickness guide:

How do I know if my egg has soft shell?
It's easy. A message gets added below the description of the egg:
user posted image
The message for a sick hatchling:
user posted image

My egg has soft shell! What is the cause?
Too many views too fast. This happens most often on the first day as an egg or hatchling, but can happen at any time.

How do I cure my soft shell?
Hide the egg for at least a day. Often eggs with this kind of soft shell already have enough views to hatch, so you can remove it from where you have the posted (and fog it for good measure if you like) and it will hatch fine.

Now I know how to cure the soft shell, but how do I prevent it from happening again?
Prevention is very simple once you know how.
Wait for a day or so before posting a new egg if this tends to happen to your eggs. Experiment to find the amount of down time that is right for your eggs, but a day or so is usually good. Remember to try to not get more than 100 unique views on your first day, 50 or less is best.

If you still have questions, post them here! They'll be answered and I'd like to make this guide as comprehensive as possible, answering every soft shell question in one place.

My hatchling has these stats and it still isn't sick for some reason... o.O

Overall Views: 10690
Unique Views: 762
Clicks: 12
Time Left: 6 days and 18 hours
(edit: the amount of views is constantly rising...)

and my egg has these stats and is sick...

Overall Views: 314
Unique Views: 188
Clicks: 2
Time Left: 6 days and 11 hours

So, why my hatchie isn't sick, but my egg is?

I don't know. With those stats I would expect it to be sick. Keep an eye on it. It really has enough views to grow up and only needs time, although the ratio of views to unique views is a bit off -- mine usually get about 3 to 1 or even 2 to 1.

Hiya!

So I had this egg that I had posted in a forum with quite some traffic, and got to these stats, at which point it hatched:

Egg Laid on: Dec 20, 2009
Hatched on: Dec 23, 2009
Overall Views: 1977
Unique Views: 1023
Clicks: 12

Hatchling will die if it doesn't grow up in: 6 days and 14 hours

And it hatched from totally healthy egg (yes, I did check every 10 minutes, watching actually my yules' countdown) into a hatchling that has been sick for 10 hours now, all the time fogged. Is that normal? I didn't incubate, it just hatched around 3 days 23 hours.

It can happen. It is just that new hatchlings are more sensitive than 3 or 4 day old eggs. And some individual dragons seem more susceptible than others. It has enough views already to grow up, so just keep it fogged until it gets under 4 days left and it will grow up fine.

It is indeed better to keep it fogged even if the soft shell is gone. If you unfog it immediatly it might get sick again.

Hey, i've got a sick hatchling (already gendered though) with these stats:

Overall Views: 10875
Unique Views: 725

I've kept it fogged nearly two days. It still has about five days left, but.. should i do something, or do i just keep it fogged and wait? I've never had a hatchlig sick such a long time (they have always got better in few hours.)

Oh and sorry for my english, i hope you still understand.

It should be fine. It has enough stats to grow up so you can safely keep it fogged until it gets down to 4 days. Then unfog without posting it again anywhere and it should grow up on its own sometime within 24 hours. If it should happen to get down to 3 days and not yet be hatched (I don't think that will happen!) then you can stick it in one of the fansite ERs.

I learned today that eggs can die from overclicking/viewing even when they've been fogged.

Been playing this game for going on two years now and I did not know that.

Yeah, fogging will save most eggs, but if they already have too many views to survive, fogging will not help. sad.gif

What is the best way to make your eggs to hatch nearly while it does not get sick like the egg will hatch after 3 or lesser days without getting soft shelled?

Pick 1 or 2 fansites, basically. They spread the stat-giving love usually pretty nicely.
I usually get soft shell & sickness only when I post my dragons elsewhere (where they get way too much traffic) and don't pay enough attention afterwards, e.g. when I pick up ERs from the AP.

You can freeze sick dragons. If you freeze ungendered dragons, it may take a long time to gender. Or just a few days. If you want a frozen gendered hatchling, wait it gender first and then freeze it. And the sicknes will dessapear from it with the time.

I have a question. My egg has the stats 306 views, 216 unique views, and 2 clicks. I fogged it yet when I log out and use the link it still gains views. Why? It's sick and I don't want it to die. It has a soft shell.

I just checked your scroll. The stats have not changed since you posted and the egg is fogged.
